+Hershell Degera he is still being prosecuted, i think in Korea you stay in jail during that time until you are either convicted or acquitted, because bail is rarely granted in Korea. Right now Kespa suspended him indefinitely until unless he can clear his match fixing charges, that's why life is dropped from his Code A match and not eligible to play any proleague matches for the afreeca freaks.
Seeing this 7 years after, several thoughts arise : - 12 workers start was the best decision the devs made for the game, there isn't dead time in LotV - Nexus overcharge + MSC felt like game killers, current shield batteries make so much sense both in terms of show and gameplay - 4:34 yep, he clicked the buildings. - Life looked like a friendly dude. I hope he was able to rebuild a peaceful new life by now. =)
holy shit khaldor I can't believe that for the better part of 16 mins, you were with your hands out stretched on top of life's head to record this, hats off boss, truly an esports hero!
Goddamn Khaldor is such a beast! I absolutely love these videos! Thank you for providing us with such videos you're such a boss and we hope to see more!
lol what no way. MVP was bonjwa and closest to rivaling him is Life. In fact, you can argue that Life edges out MVP slightly. But Life is definitely the best HotS player and MVP the best WOL player.
+Kwanro yea the match fixing means nothing to the several years of Life's accomplishments. It means he won't be adding to that list anymore. I would give the nod to MVP over Life because of how figured out the game became while Life was dominating HoTS. But that doesn't mean MVP didn't have it in him to do the same if he'd still be a part of the scene. That's a lot of speculation.
Thanks Khaldor, You're Awesome, this is why I like you; I just subscribed. Also I can tell when you cast you really do your homework on the players and their history, it gives your casts more outstanding quality. Thanks again.
??? False 180 APM is actually all you need to do everything. It's just that people get used to spamming since there's this ingrained belief that APM is good so people spam to get it.
Moosy Doosy lol..so u say pros just have bad habit of fastclicking for nothing? i agree 150-180 apm can get u gold or platinum but master or pro league? a player who cant do multitasking in a blick of eyes cant get past low masters search for any pro players that have less than 230 apm
Smotis ..Someone did a study with Zerg where the Zerg player would only perform the absolute necessary actions at the right time and found only 180 APM was needed. It's just that people double right click or APM spam at the start of a match which I generally support. But it's fluff to claim that Masters absolutely need 220+ APM.
heime1990 stardust won Eu wcs with his 150 average apm last year ,TLO made it to the wcs 7th time in a row with average 180 apm as a zerg, and there are a lots of pro gamers with less then 130 apm average (mostly protoss players) elfi, socke.... my fried zerg 3 time in a row in gm, with 150 average apm and he doesnt even use hotkeys for his army, only for spellcast units and mutas, for the rest f1 key :D.... its about decision making not about stupid apm
Not entirely true. My friend was a high master Terran and he hardly ranged over 150 apm. Apm spamming is a good thing to loosen your fingers up for larger macro games, and it makes you faster on your micro, but it isn't absolutely necessary to win games. For the most part, a relatively low amount of actual "skill" as far as macro and micro goes is needed to get into the platinum league, daimond is a bit more difficult and masters even more so, but to say that there's some sort of minimum apm requirement is absurd. Apm isn't a measure of skill it's only a tool to see how fast you're playing. A bronze leaguer could spam his keys and get 200 apm and still lose. Going against a gm he could still win with his mouse.
Gabriel Barile Think of it in terms of a warm up. If you're capable of speeding up suddenly, then you don't need to APM spam in the start. It's also something to do in the early stages of the game when you're creating your first couple of workers and Overlords. Life actually doesn't APM spam as much as the other pros. Personally, I feel antsy about not cycling through my hotkeys, so it lets me do something to keep my busy while keeping me calm before the real game starts.
Gabriel Barile realistically you can't just increase it in a second. things heat up very quickly, and a split second in sc2 is huge. if you aren't constantly switching between scouting and base, micro and macro, etc., you will either lose your army or not tech up. it's not just high apm in combat. he is setting up control groups, setting rally, points, making overlords, larva injects, spreading creep, etc. The other thing is, if you pause and think about what you do, you will lose. You have to constantly be clicking and stay active.
It's quite subtle, small things like shifting drone positions across nodes and such to better accommodate for new spawns. It's mostly just warming up, though.
It's not about how many buttons you press it's that you press them at the right time. As long as he's hitting his timings who cares that he's playing at 400 apm.
Pretty suprising to see startale life change his hokteys. He used to have all hatches on 3 but now they're on 4. He's basically moved everything to the right nice to see pros still trying to improve in ways other than just game knowledge.
KhaldorTV hey there khaldor.. so.. are you still recording starcraft 2 vods? because its just amusing to watch videos like this... makes you go hype and motivated to play starcraft 2!!!!
It doesn't matter about the keyboard specifically, per se, if you're just talking about sounds. Like someone else said, they're Cherry MX Blues which can be found as one of four primary color options (each having different switch types). The "color" is not something you see unless you take the keycap off. I'm pretty sure he is using a different brand there, but his team is sponsored by Zowie. I guess you'd have to hunt more to find his.
Here's a video that you wanna watch if you want learn about ling control and multitasking. It's like he is the only one, who knows how zerg should be played. with 4 hands and +300 apm
These apm videos are a legendary contribution to the sc2 scene. I wonder what Koreans pros are using these days now that the Zowie Mico mouse show cased here is no longer made.
Pierrick Gagne Yeah I can see toss maybe 40 apm... make a few stalks, few zealots.. overcharge ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. BUT NO IT'S OKAY BECAUSE IT'S BALANCED /facedesk
What happens if you miss click just once and you have something in a control group you don't want it in I don't know how to remove things from control groups??
lol he exploded his banelings at 10:25 XD life has had a lot of problems with that, I hope he unbinded it completely and just uses the mouse click on the button if he needs it lol
+Gautier Jonckheere he uses 800dpi, I have the same mouse. But Im not sure if he uses a 1:1 ratio or uses the ingame sensitivity. (which is bad you should have the sc2 sensitivity at 51-54% or elsse it's no 1-1 ratio.
its not about showcasing how fast ur fingers moving or looks so gosu pros brain is different from casual player that play a or two games to release stress they(pros) make decisions in split seconds and it often decides win or lose of their matches. so dont say high apm is useless
I wonder what game he plays on his phone. Maybe if I play it too I can be like Life in at least one way? I know I don't have hope of ever playing SC like him! Go life! Fighting!
This is why Life is so damn good. Lets be honest i will never be able to play a game like this at this level. And since the shit on the screen is going so fast, is he actually reading it or is he just going through routine will perfectly timed intervals?
+Hatersin.fc非 most of the time he's not letting his eyes actually observe most of the screen. its mostly all muscle memory. the mini map is probably where he is looking most when he isn't placing a building, creep, etc., or focusing on combat. he also has the game sound directly in his head, so he can receive information that would divert his eyesight through another sense. if you aren't ingrained in the mini-map, your overlord's are insanely less efficient as is your overall knowledge of what the hell's going on all over the place.
jay bee Yup. It would be one thing if he was one of the people getting wins through matchfixing. But Life was paid to LOSE. And in both sets where he lost a game on purpose he still won the match overall. Man's a boss.
At first glance it seems to be meaningless apm at the beginning but i believe it could be anticipatory: by clicking on things constantly he is sure to nail his hotkeys without any delay. milliseconds can add up in matches at this level. Also it seems to keep his focus on the game.
+Alex Cruz Lots of reasons actually, one to keep his speed up, two, he needs to if he wants to play really well. You have to click a control group once to get to your units, double tap to get on top of your units, you have to click your hatches to get your larva (where you produce), and hotkey for what units to produce. So when he's using units on 1,2,3. And have them spread on different hotkeys, and a few camera location keys as well, to where he has rally points. He's spamming to keep his money low, spamming to make units, spamming for injects, and spamming to get to his armies, and keep shift adding to his army as more things come out. You could do it slower, but he wants to min max everything, and don't miss a beat. So he goes really fucking fast. Early game it's not needed, but they do it to get to a high constant speed, and shit like that
Thanks for the videos! By the way, how does Life not get distracted or pissed off when you're standing right on top of him like that? It would totally affect my concentration.
? Do you mean "standard" as in standard rubber dome switch or standard mechanical? It's a "standard" mechanical keyboard but there's no need to buy a specific gaming keyboard for SC2 since you'll mostly be using the standard keys and not any macro's.
***** haha good one, i would have guessed the same, no wonder they all removed the button, like pro's need help with starcraft :) probably just a nuisance having to stare at it all the time.
Yeah its star station and it's cause the 3rd is super wide open so it's really easy to deny and if you're Terran the walking distance from the main to the 3rd is lengthy so drops can be nightmares
Noxidok Oh, I see. Attacks on there could only be fended off with reinforcements from the main, and those might not be enough if you're already in the other side of the map. Thanks
Santiago Machado well if you're protoss you could always warp in units to a pylon but if they snipe the pylon or just pick up and fly away or theres not enough gates you're still taking some damage
+Martin Vesturheygg APM doesn't matter in Dota 2. In Dota 2 it's about team strategy which everyone in Dota 2 pro scene can do. Now it's about team fights in Dota 2 and farming. None of it gives Starcraft 2 players the edge. So I don't understand what you are on about.
Martin Vesturheygg Invoker need skill management more than APM. You need to understand the timing and when to use it. You only need at most 50APM to play a good Invoker. The rest is up to practice for speed. And don't even touch on Meepo. He is easy to play without high APM. Meepo requires more map awareness rather than APM.
people ask about keyboard and mouse hes using in the video. is it like he always plays with the same m/kb ? does he take them with him around tournaments ?
Bournesax If you are on such a high pro level, you need to be familiar with your equipment to play decently. I consider myself pretty good at FPS's and it would be highly impacting the way I play if I'd use a different equipment. There are many small things you need to be aware of when pro-gaming, everything from the height of your desk, to the angle of your arm has an impact.
Inside of him there's a sleeping genius pianist, I wonder how many people who show these skills in a game are actually real musicians, its like his brain is built for it
9:08 cool micro play. Life is killing a zeallot without losing a zergling. Injecting larva and making drones/units all almost at the same time. You need decent apm for that :P
Well.. there are players in high GM that don't even have above 150 APM, having a really high APM doesn't really say anything, what really counts is your effective APM; as long as that is good enough, your average APM doesn't matter in the slightest
sad to see such a sc2 legend to go jail for match fixing
+carson032000 is he still in prison or he will be free soon? T_T
+Hershell Degera he is still being prosecuted, i think in Korea you stay in jail during that time until you are either convicted or acquitted, because bail is rarely granted in Korea. +carson032000 wait holy shit really? where can i follow the news?
+mytitswillwork google. i just found out today FeelsBadMan
what means "match fixing"
in between playing games, hes palying games lol
me too
1st thing i noticed as well
+Zeratul123able in between his "work" he's playing games xD
He hits the keyboard faster than i can by hitting it randomly
Sticks his pinky on his mouse hand out like a gentleman
life..you were the chosen one...
@ZenPhilosopher123 but now zergs win everytrhing LOL

Lifeuu was the first pro I ever watched, RIP to such an amazing career. Greatest HotS player by far, maybe best SC2 player ever?
+jay bee Life may be the best HotS player, but by far considering achievements, Polt, in my opinion is the best SC2 Player.
+jay bee also he went to jail because of match fixing =)
lol what no way. MVP was bonjwa and closest to rivaling him is Life. In fact, you can argue that Life edges out MVP slightly. But Life is definitely the best HotS player and MVP the best WOL player.

Up to gold: apm is 50-100 range
Platinum-low master: its in 130-200 range
To go higher than low master u need 220+ apm
??? False
180 APM is actually all you need to do everything. It's just that people get used to spamming since there's this ingrained belief that APM is good so people spam to get it.

I have like no idea whatso ever why he is pressing the buttons that quickly, what is it even achieving apart from the "NOT ENOUGH MINERALS" spam?
(I'm a noob, i actually need an explanation xD)
the idea is to stay on a high apm level so you don't have to suddenly increase your apm during a fight but can stay on a constant level
oh, thanks :3
Gabriel Barile Think of it in terms of a warm up. If you're capable of speeding up suddenly, then you don't need to APM spam in the start. but how will he fare against the Japanese calculator lady?
He was best player at the wordl
It will be good if you can also list down their hotkeys.
It's like watching a replay game at x3 speed, he's that fast...
oh wow, did not one else notice that he doesn't not show all unit health bars?
The Greatest Of All Time!
Higher ranked players tend to rally workers to minerals which are closer to base.
It's quite subtle, small things like shifting drone positions across nodes and such to better accommodate for new spawns. It's mostly just warming up, though.

You can find a link in the description with a picture that was taken of me while I was recording some of the videos today. In case you are interested
Best Zerg on earth, period
The SC1 music just makes these videos that much more awesome.
i like the way he holds out his pinky on his mouse lol
+James Putzulu I do the same (but when drinking tea or coffee)
Hitting the buttons at the right time is what is important. Spamming and apm is helpful to hitting the right timings.
Excellent video! Would love to see one of Revival or Jaedong as well. Watching their APM, multitasking and mouse accuracy is amazing to watch
Life with another win in GSL!
Here's a video that you wanna watch if you want learn about ling control and multitasking. It's like he is the only one, who knows how zerg should be played.
with 4 hands and +300 apm

Well I figure it's that Life is not used to someone standing over his shoulder nor someone with a camera less than a foot away from his head.
I love the way that keyboard sounds.
Nice Video, impressiv how still u hold the camera.
What happens if you miss click just once and you have something in a control group you don't want it in I don't know how to remove things from control groups??
+Gabriel Pintacasi shift+click the individual unit while your control group is highlighted, then reset the control group.
lol he exploded his banelings at 10:25 XD life has had a lot of problems with that, I hope he unbinded it completely and just uses the mouse click on the button if he needs it lol
There were DT's attacking his Roaches so he was manually exploding his Banelings to kill them.
Life bar on selected units? didn't expect that
Does Life NOT use camera hotkeys???? Am i trippin?
he did not., just hotkey'd his queens -5-6-7-8. ~~
Nice video Khaldor. And good job of the Khalidra team :D
like the sound of those keys - what keyboard he is using?
Is there some way you can get a video of scarletts apm? I wanna see her screen when she spreads creep
Its really interesting how small number of drones they have per base..
was ther person he was playing right next to him!?!?!?! coulldn't they just look on the screen and see what to do and counter it?
Noticed that the Drones did not auto mine. Is this a thing for all of the Tournament maps?
What mouse sensitivity and scroll did he use?
+Gautier Jonckheere I think its purple from what i have seen in other videos as well
+Gautier Jonckheere look up the zowie mico and youll see which sensivity the purple scroll wheel means
+Gautier Jonckheere he uses 800dpi, I have the same mouse. But Im not sure if he uses a 1:1 ratio or uses the ingame sensitivity. (which is bad you should have the sc2 sensitivity at 51-54% or elsse it's no 1-1 ratio.
can u film from the left side plz ^^
maybe. i've not really seen an update on it in way too long to have a real gauge.
I'll never say it enough, here or on teamliquid, but thanks so much all thjose videos Khaldor!
His f1 f2 ect keys are so high up, and he doesnt use them. What does he use for camera hotkeys? Macro keys or something?
does somowone know what is he playing on his cellphone before the game??
Who was he playing against? That Protoss was tough too !!!
translation at the end 네
it means "yes' but how he used it it means "what?"
why is he permanently pressing the same buttons at the beginning? actualy he doesn't really did anything instead making drones?
its not about showcasing how fast ur fingers moving or looks so gosu
pros brain is different from casual player that play a or two games to release stress
they(pros) make decisions in split seconds and it often decides win or lose of their matches. so dont say high apm is useless
good choice of music Khaldor!!!
Blown away by his awesomeness! what skill. wow.
If you get a chance to record Liquid'Taeja please do!!! Thanks for doing this
I don't understand He binds every larva? 0_o =/
+podjigateli He binds all the hatcheries into one hotkey, and when he selects it, he can use all the larva at once.
He binds (add) larva to a group so when units are complete they already joined to a group. I think so...
+podjigateli Well, they're made into units first. And, while they're still selected, he adds them to a control group.
that`s quite impressive to watch
I wonder what game he plays on his phone. Maybe if I play it too I can be like Life in at least one way? I know I don't have hope of ever playing SC like him! Go life! Fighting!
+Cory Klein ZooZoo
this is WCG(world cyber games) korea qualifier not WCS
This is why Life is so damn good. Lets be honest i will never be able to play a game like this at this level. And since the shit on the screen is going so fast, is he actually reading it or is he just going through routine will perfectly timed intervals?

Man i love you! thx so much khaldor!
LOL was life playing a game on his phone before his match?????
how he completely goes into focus when the game starts and does not get distracted.
+MJANGO DESU NE unfortunately he is a matchfixer
tbh doesn't really matter
Flow yeah he match fixed to LOSE. that's a lot different than being the one that wins in a fix.
jay bee Yup. It would be one thing if he was one of the people getting wins through matchfixing. But Life was paid to LOSE. And in both sets where he lost a game on purpose he still won the match overall. Man's a boss.
There is no way goody has 150 :P But don't forget elfi. At what eapm are the korean pros?
What phone/handheld is he holding at the start? Great video. ^^
why don't they have a camera like this in normal matches? It's incredibly awesome.
is that CJ Hydra in that picture?
At first glance it seems to be meaningless apm at the beginning but i believe it could be anticipatory: by clicking on things constantly he is sure to nail his hotkeys without any delay. milliseconds can add up in matches at this level. Also it seems to keep his focus on the game.
okay so I'm very new to SC and pc games in general, why does he have to keep rapidly pressing the keys?
+Alex Cruz answer below
I must be going crazy but is he playing with a standard keyboard? And the F1 button is still in tact? Thats fucking amazing.
? Do you mean "standard" as in standard rubber dome switch or standard mechanical? It's a "standard" mechanical keyboard but there's no need to buy a specific gaming keyboard for SC2 since you'll mostly be using the standard keys and not any macro's.
Moosy Doosy It's standard as in it's actually there, very few Starcraft progamers have the F1 button
*****
whats the thing about f1 ? i know very little about sc2 and pro games but have seen jaedong have it removed
Bournesax Its from Brood War, it was the button to the help menu if im not mistaken.
***** haha good one, i would have guessed the same, no wonder they all removed the button, like pro's need help with starcraft :) probably just a nuisance having to stare at it all the time.
Was the map Star Station? If it is, I still would like to know why Protoss players used to hate the map so much
Yeah its star station and it's cause the 3rd is super wide open so it's really easy to deny and if you're Terran the walking distance from the main to the 3rd is lengthy so drops can be nightmares
Noxidok Oh, I see. Attacks on there could only be fended off with reinforcements from the main, and those might not be enough if you're already in the other side of the map. Thanks

If these old Korean Starcraft players one day join the Dota scene. All of what that scene today know as pro shall fall.
Martin Vesturheygg hes only 15 16years old tbh
Select is already here, and there are Korean teams already that are scary af
+Martin Vesturheygg APM doesn't matter in Dota 2. In Dota 2 it's about team strategy which everyone in Dota 2 pro scene can do. Now it's about team fights in Dota 2 and farming. None of it gives Starcraft 2 players the edge. So I don't understand what you are on about.

what size of screen is that ? do you know what is the best size for sc2 ?
? it seems like when the game begins his drones don't start mining automatically, like back in WoL
people ask about keyboard and mouse hes using in the video. is it like he always plays with the same m/kb ? does he take them with him around tournaments ?
Bournesax If you are on such a high pro level, you need to be familiar with your equipment to play decently.
I consider myself pretty good at FPS's and it would be highly impacting the way I play if I'd use a different equipment.
There are many small things you need to be aware of when pro-gaming, everything from the height of your desk, to the angle of your arm has an impact.
That silly grin on his face lol :D also, was he playing zoozoo at the end?

Wish I have that micro control skill for my meepo . . .
Did he changed his mouse sensitivity to 100% at the beginning?
it's a setting you can turn on or off.
thanks khlador for the content!
Great to see a master during his craft.
You mean during his... starcraft?
YEAAAA!!
ba dum tshhh ! :P
Saulo Silva grandmaster
cstephn93 Precisely
Khaldor u da best, love how goofy life is all the time
Judging from his innovation video where innovation seemed to not even notice him until he said "good job" at the end, it seems he's out of the way.
anyone explain to me why those 100 clicks per second are neccessary
its not pointless, its called warming up fingers at the start... Pro players EPM usually sits at solid 70-80%
I think there is an option to disable the windows key?
That's crazy! How do you enjoy the game when you play so fast? lol
Wow Innovations Vid has 100k already, this has "only" about 1k viewers.
Well.. there are players in high GM that don't even have above 150 APM, having a really high APM doesn't really say anything, what really counts is your effective APM; as long as that is good enough, your average APM doesn't matter in the slightest
ever heard of a warm up?
