- Over the decade I've been into raw selvedge denim, I've had maybe a dozen real… project pairs… and yeah, I have picked up way more pairs of jeans than is ever reasonable. I have also picked up a few sundries. These are not accessories. They are not complementary pieces of clothing… They are just things that I would say are pretty much essential for the health and wellbeing of my jeans and just make life in your jeans that little bit easier
And so today I am running through the top 5 things that I have picked up along the way that I find pretty much essential.

The intro - so relatable. The brush is great for pet hair too.
Always use a lint roller for that... but not exactly good for the environment ... I should give the brush a go for that too...
Hi Matt. Those hooks look useful. Thanks for the tip. One thing I've used a lot is a pant waist stretcher from ebay. If you have a pair of jeans that are slightly too tight, you dampen the waist and install the waist stretcher and start cranking. Let it dry. Voila. Your tight waist jeans are now fitting comfortably. It really works great, even on sanforized denim. Take care.
Nice! It doesn't mess with the proportions?
@@CeeAreDee On the contrary. It often will completely correct the over-shrinkage in the waistband that I find is common on unsanforized denim.
Bravestar's patches are really nice. I've created a hanger for my denim, made of 3 small screw hooks, a bit of leather and a wooden curtain rail (taken from the 'BSR'). So far the most useful item
Yeah, the Bravestar jeans look like a great deal overall. And I like the DIY attitude.
I was pretty pissed off about a online purchase I made for selvedge denim that I couldn't return. They fit way too small. Now I just use the pair as scraps for denim repairs. Also, sand paper blocks work really well for distressing. Very new discovery for me.
Never really self distressed my denims. Suchs with the wrong fit tho. I don't buy online much but always make sure they have a good return policy.
@@CeeAreDee the sand paper block I just discovered while I was at work. I work in a Home Improvement Depot as a overnight associate unloading building material trucks. I beat up my denim a lot but some areas weren't getting as much love. That's when I discovered the sand paper block. I tested it on one of my project pairs of denim and it surprised me how well it worked. I'll have to see what happens after I wash them.
use cobblers choice for conditioning, best conditioner imo
nice... might try that if the boot oil ever runs out.
The best leather patch I have is from my Naked & Famous X Dragon Ball Z collab, the Vegeta patch. NF doesn’t have veg tan for all their product but when they use it it’s pretty cool.
Holy shit you’re 40?! Oh also Bravestar’s patch is great, crazy thick. They use the same veg patch for their indigo jeans but they use a chrome tanned one for the black pair i have and some of their jackets use some brown chrome tanned patches.
Haha, yeah... well, in a couple of months. The big 40.😂😂
I bought Iron Heart and Bravestar this weekend as first 2 pair of decent jeans. If I end up down this rabbit hole, it’s this guy’s fault 😂
Haha. Good ones to start with tho!
That hooked joke just got you a thumbs up lol.
haha, glad the dad jokes are working ;) appreciate it mate.
I don't have a hat brush for comparison, but there are purpose-built "garment brushes." They're usually used as an alternative to a lint roller for cleaning up suits and overcoats. I got mine from Muji for about $7
IKEA Grundtal hooks are similar but smaller. Thanks for the tip!
I know a brand I think you'd like to review! It is called Jeansverket.
It's a really small denim brand based in my hometown Borås, in Sweden. Selvedge, raw denim and so on. Sustainable clothing, seems pretty good quality too.
They don't have a women's line yet and their sizes are too big for me unfortunately so I can't try them out, but, yeah. Seems pretty cool!
Thanks for sharing!! I had a look and I need to take a deeper dive into them. They look like they are doing a good job tho.
My Left Field NYC have a nice leather patch. 👌🏻
True. They do a great job. Love the design too with the coal miner.
Oni's demon patch is very cool.
True that.
I religiously use a clothes brush as I have cats and I have to work that little bit harder to keep lint and fur free.
I would really reccomend buying obenaufs leather conditioner, most boot makers recommend It and some even sell it on their website, and saddle soap is really important before conditioning, especially if you are using it on boots.
Neetsfoot oil is good for veg tanned leather too.
I’ve discovered that since making that video. Great stuff.
I own tons of selvedge, including brave star. Surprisingly, Taylor Stitch. My 68’ Cones have the beefiest leather patch I’ve seen yet💯
Thanks for the video. I'm new to selvedge so it was informative for me. SoSo makes a tanned leather patch but not sure if it's veg tanned.
Oh yeah, good detergent. I use brave stars. I’m assuming you don’t collect boots huh? Use red wings leather cream instead of boot cream. The boot creams more of a polish and not much of a conditioner. What you’re using now is fine. You can also use something heavier like mink oil if you don’t mind it being a little darker. I find it good to actually apply it before the wash too to prevent that crinkling. Then apply after too. Tedious I know. You could peep ya boy on IG, same name, same game homie. You’ve got some good content btw👌
Interesting.
I wear my selvedge about 50-100 times, clean them in hot or cold water in the tub (whatever I'm feeling at the time), hang them to dry in the sun, and have never required any of the essential items you mention.
They get worn daily, maybe a spot clean here and there, but hell, this is denim.
It's not as finnicky as people like to act.
Love the slabs of veg tan leather on some N&F pairs, thick and beefy on my Okayama 4s
The N&F Elephant patch is nuts thick!
I use saphir on my patches.
Have to get S hooks. Thanks!
No worries, Ian.
Samurai leather patches for special edition are amazing.
Agreed! Still need to get a pair of Sams
Love your channel. Thank you, for doing these vids! Really helpfull. Cheers from Denmark.
Thanks Stefan. Appreciate the support and kind words.
Motostars gang 🎉
Thank you the lesson!😊🙏
You're welcome 😊
@@CeeAreDee 🙏🙏
use neatsfoot oil on veg tan leather. -from a leathercraftsman point of view
In North America, Walmart sells rubber coated S hooks in the closest section where they have all the hangers. I use Kent clothes brush on my dress clothes, is the hat brush soft or rougher than a clothes brush? I just used Saphir multi-purpose leather cleaner on a leather patch last night. lol
I think thar hat brushes and clothes brushes are about the same. Just a different shape.
What glasses are you wearing in this video?
can you or your friend patch jeans for a video?
I have no skills in that and Daniel is over on Bali i'm afraid. One day maybe. It would be a good one.
hanging them by the loops doesn't mess them up?
Nope. Not at all.
Those specs are dope bro
Ace&Tate... only brand I go with these days. Super good value
@@CeeAreDee nice one, gonna get myself a pair me thinks!
Can you still remember what jacket you were wearing in this video?
That is an INDIGOFERA gant jacket. Super nice piece.
@@CeeAreDee thank you very much 👍
@@CeeAreDee I was wondering exactly the same, but more intrigued by the green one around 1min by your twin who is filming you.
@@steffen4692 that’s an old dead stock military shirt. Closest I know of is this. benzakdenimdevelopers.com/collections/jackets-shirts/products/bws-03-military-overshirt-10-oz-army-green-military-twill?ktk=UEdKczZRLTcxMDUyZjgzOWFh
My favourite has to be the thick and riveted patch on Momotaro.
Where can we get that rail/stand that hold your denim and jacket?
It is from a Berlin based brand called Noodle Noodles and Noodles. I am selling that one soon tho if you are anywhere close to Germany?
How are you hanging your jeans?
IronHeart's patches are definitely my favorites.
True. There are some great examples out there of well worn patches.
Random question... do you know of any brands that make raw denim jackets with shorter length? Being 5’7” makes getting the right fit difficult 😓
Check out Brave Star They might
Hmm, you could look at some japanese brands... they are cut a little shorter. Or size down on a Type 1 or 2. they were boxy and therefore quite cropped. The alternative would be to find a good tailor. I cant imagine it would be too much of a task to shorten a jacket.
@@CeeAreDee Thanks! After hours of searching I found a few from Sugar Cane and The Real McCoy's with good dimensions
You will have to get them hemmed. 5'6" average height king here.
BraveStar denim. It’s a must to try! Very fair price for made in usa denims!
Totally agree! Dont know how they do it for that price.
I love my bravestar denim! I could do without the 🌟 . But for the price and history, fuck it!
Is the Hoodie you´re wearing here from 3sixteen? And if so, how is the fit?
It is indeed. Well spotted. The fit and quality is second to none!
Brave Star and naked and famous patches are great
Bravestars do have a nice patch
I really need to get my hands on a pair one day
Momotaro Patches are superior !
They have a good variety to leathers too.
Stainless steel also rusts
Yeah, but not as much as mild steel, guess a powder coating would be the best but not found any like that as yet.
@@CeeAreDee visit your nearest powder coating shop. We use these hooks while coating and they need to be clean to conduct an electric current. Coated hooks are literally thrown away by the hundreds. I'm sure they would be happy for you to take some of them away.
Pure blue japan has amazing leather patches
As a leather crafter, it is a bit silly to hear people in raw denim community think VegTan leather as special. It is very cheap and easy to made/stamp, guys. 😂
Mate, please get a microphone. You've got great content and I've learned a lot about denim. But for god's sake please get a microphone. All of your audio peaks constantly and it makes it very jarring to listen to the solid knowledge you're sharing.
Sent with thanks and a healthy dose of humility.
Have you checked the most recent videos ? I’d be curious to know if you think that’s better because I’ve got a pretty decent set up. Least on paper.
40...??? good for you
Sometimes more 40 than other times.
Get a life mate its a pair of jeans
And yet, you’re watching a guy with no life.
😴
What’s the zip hoodie you’re wearing? It’s gorgeous
From my boys over at 3sixteen.
