Music doesn't need structure, it doesn't need a checklist. I find this very interesting, exploring the boundaries of what people would consider a hit song.
One of the things I love about doing dance in my dance studio is that they always chose good songs that I always end up searching them up to find them. This was one of the ones that older girls danced too and I loved it so I now have it in a playlist with all the others.
It's like listening to a couple of 1920's New York jazz singers (ezra koenig and whoever the woman is) who accidentally got sent to the future and are being forced to perform for a tribe of post-apocalyptic steampunk city people in the decrepit, irradiated remains of an underground nightclub.
pls help exactly, that's the irony of the whole situation, people who are against hipsters, will discount music because it sounds 'hipster', which is in itself, hipster.
The production on this track is beautifully precise and so unique. Otherwise just indescribably good. Just because something is new or hard to understand, it doesn't have to be placed in a label or automatically become "hipster music". So friggin sick of people saying that
I NEED SBTRKT APPAREL. A shirt for the album cover for "Where Will We Land" would be great, and so would shirts that just say SBTRKT. Also, I want a shirt that says "New dorp. New York." and "gargoyles gargling oil."
That is some frikin innovative sound... What groove, digin the melody... its got a feel, of Paul Simon somewhere in there too... I guess its the sligh/slangy vocal... Love it!
american11asshole I just read the first 2 lines cause I got bored, but anyway, just wanted to say this is playing on Portuguese radio for some weaks now, 2 stations play this song actually. Have a nice weekend!
I think what you're trying to convey is that it's not like anything you've heard before. Elements of it maybe, but no SONG that sounds or feels like this. Most music is derivative and this helps because we frame everything we hear in the context of everything we've heard, so news sounds or ideas often confuse us like you're describing :)
8 years later this song still randomly pops into my head every now n then
...which means it's a grest tune.
my favorite part is the lady that says "and he thinks im the negative one"
i love the tone of her voice and her accent
Its not a woman. He is from the band 'Vampire weekend' x
TheBIGfaces the first voice that says it is a woman
No you cannot have her BOBS
nieuwe dorp, nieuw Amsterdam... give credit where it's due... waar zijn mijn NL's
That whole back and forth is so cheesy and kinda devalues the whole song
Ezra Koeings voice is beyond amazing.
right? he made it better

I was trying to explain this song to my boyfriend, and your comment could not have described it better!
Very nice description
I feel so indiehipster-ish listening to this, cause it sounds so alternative
But it sounds good, that bass is fucking wild
don't worry, you're not
Who cares? If you like it, don't think about how it makes you look xD
the worst thing that exists in this world is having to put a label on everything.
pls help exactly, that's the irony of the whole situation, people who are against hipsters, will discount music because it sounds 'hipster', which is in itself, hipster.

Just heard this today. Never heard it before. I’m drawn to it’s irregularness (best non-word I can use to describe it). The video is good too.
Being that this song is featured on the Netflix series Irregulars, your comment is a good description.

I didn't realize this song existed til the other day when I saw Vampire Weekend and they played this.
I am among the first viewers. I predict the excessive success for this song. It's just pleasure for ears, you feel how it shakes the body.
