- I never expected this small piece of work to launch my art career, and yet it did. One drawing sparked my first solo exhibition, secured commissions and saw me leave employment behind.

You are so right, I'm seventy and realised a long time ago that so many of us have to work at jobs or careers just because we have to. I think it is important to give time to things you love and if possible make it your new career. If you can't do that make sure you find something totally different to do in any free time you have. Be creative, to let your soul just be. I find being alone, quiet and creating something new so calming. Reflect on your life and don't allow others to stifle your dreams.
So true, not everything has to be a career (and this can often ruin things, too), but making sure you nourish your deep interests and give yourself time to enjoy your life is so important. It can be easy to get too busy to do what's important to you!
Hello Emily. I have been watching your videos for several years teaching myself how to use soft pastels. I have been on this art journey for several years now and have got to the stage I can do my own compositions now. The one attribute you have taught me was patience. Taking my time and taking care with each pencil stroke. I recently did a painting of a kingfisher coming out of the water myself, for a gift to friends who are extremely dear to me. If you would like to have a look I would be happy to email it to you. Thank you for all your hard work and for helping me to be better.
Hi Nikki, thanks so much, that's really lovely to hear. Taking your time can make such a difference...ultimately, a drawing is made of many parts, so making sure each part has been properly considered is a good place to begin. I would love to see your work! admin@emilyrosefineart.co.uk
Hello Emily, thank you so much for taking the time to record this voice-over and share with us your journey the ups and downs and the twists and turns. It really does give me hope
From the smallest feather to every drop of water - for me, this is art as it can only be: vivid, beautiful and breathtaking!
Thank you!
Thank you. ❤ This piece is heartfully done, and your words soothed my soul, down to its core. ✨
What a beautiful video, Emily. I’ve followed you for a while, and just joined your art school yesterday! I’m so excited to really get going with my pastel pencils! You have such a lovely teaching style-the warmth and encouragement you convey really draws me in. Looking forward to lots of wonderful time drawing with you! ❤
Thank you! I really hope you enjoy your pastel pencil journey, I think it's a medium with a lot to give :)
Hi Kathy I've been considering joining Emily's art school. Is there any way you can give me an update as you go along? Xx
@@Rachaelshaw7 Sure, Rachael! ❤️
Hi Emily. I am at the very beginning of my art journey at 68yrs of age, and have, for about 1 month, felt uninspired and not good enough, but after watching this video feel inspired to not quit my dream to be an artist. Thank you 😊
That's so lovely! The right time to go after things is when you're ready and you have the space for it. It doesn't matter when that is in your life, it's just important to go after it and enjoy the process.
Nice, calming video. I think we can all relate to it in some way or another. I'm glad you found what it was that inspired and excited you. Keep at it!
Thanks, Carl!
Morning, Emily !
Have been loving your videos for a while, i find them really useful and well paced out.
Your tips, tricks and clear instructions have helped me tonnes, will continue working through your courses very soon. I really enjoyed drawing a cinnabar moth as per your online lesson. Your art is beautiful so please keep it up. 👍:) ✌
Thank you so much, that's so kind of you! I'm glad you enjoyed the moth, I think insects are a great option for pastel pencil subjects :)
Congratulations on your wedding. So sad I missed it. I bet you looked amazing.
This video struck a chord and my journey seems to be mirroring yours back then. It’s all thanks to you.
Thanks Lillie! It rained and poured throughout the morning, but didn't matter a bit, it was a brilliant day! I hope it's inspired you to keep going, sometimes I feel as though I'm still at the start of my journey, but reflecting on it you realise how much you've already achieved :)
Wonderful story and lovely Kingfisher.
Thank you!

Very pleasant and relaxing voice on self-reflection
Thank you so much :)
Your drawing is awesome ❤
Thank you!
Your art in today’s video is Awesome and beautiful. I do have a night job as a dishwasher and I’m working on a become full time artist. It’s not easy and I know I can do it when I put my mind to it. Great video 😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Andy, and best of luck on your art journey!
What a treat to stumble upon your channel! May I ask, “what paper are you using? And it seemed as though you put dark over light….very often I see others use light over dark. Could you cover that issue in a later video? Or might it be one of your earlier versions?” Thank you…
Hi John, it's Clairefontaine pastelmat in light green and I'm actually releasing a video all about that kind of thing this coming Friday :)
@@emilyrosewildlifeart-paste9820That would be great! I have been using Sennelier la carte, very unforgiving and drawing errors can’t really be erased without marring the surface… a framer recently marred my finished portrait and it cannot be fixed.. luckily I also did it in watercolor so I was able to give that to my friend….
so nice 😍 new subscriber
Thank you!
beautiful
Beautiful
Thank you!
the making art and have something laying around for no purpose makes it hard to keep finding motivation. I barely got subscribers on youtube which made me stop youtube, barely have 370 followers on instagram, too few are liking my art and that's hard and I legitimate can say artist with less skills have more views, more followers than I.
don't mind the 1 remaining youtube video I left as that's a paper test not a full illustration.
being a successful artist is for a few who got help, who got support, I don't have any of that. I still create and learn, but then a finished painting is there and then I think what to do with it 🙂 it is what it is.
@@BrendasArt making art and using online social media are two very different things…for a while the online pressures killed my art for me. Like you I found it very hard to continue and so I quit for servers years because nothing seemed to be working and i started to create for social media, not for myself. This year I returned to it…I approach the online side as a business, not as an artist, it’s helped me to fall in love with the craft again and spend time working on the strategic side to grow an audience. I’ve had to add more strings to my bow to make things financially viable, don’t believe all you see! Things look good for so many on social media, but it’s often not as rosy as it seems.
It’s hard, I really sympathise with you. I have a whole other side to my artwork that I don’t share online. I keep it in my studio, or give it to friends and family.
I hope you find a way to be an artist and enjoy it. I got to the point where I realised I was happier to have a full time job and create on the side. I’ve gone back to art now, but only when I felt ready. Good luck xx
If you make art for subscribers or attention you will be disappointed. If you want to make money out of it you need luck connections or start tutoring business. I make my living by teaching music. I am full time musician even though i dont like to be. I do art as free time and its fun
@hatebreeder999
well that's not what I make art for, it's as I mentioned the finished pieces laying around without purpose feeling
@emilyrosewildlifeart-paste9820
thank you, I still make art, it's just after they are finished they end up in a corner and that's it, but I have fun with the materials and seeing a image coming out of my hands.
the growing a audience is my problem. I guess I am that type of a artist that's good with my hands but bad at networking
I love this story so much❤ when we are destined or just truly feel led to something, the universe will conspire to create the perfect moment for us. Way to go in taking the leap of faith and going for it, even though you didn’t feel ready. Super inspiring! Thanks for sharing 😌
Thank you Alexa!
Hi, Emily.... i just wanted to know what paper do you use ? For this drawing
