I watched your video many times as I am doing the upgrade now. From 75 gallons to 240 gallons. I was able to cycled the new tank with cured rock. Is been running for 2 months now. I am so nervous I might loose my livestock I get attached. Thank you for your video. I will try to add more diversity like you did Your tank is awesome.
@@viking_reefing Hello, I finally transferred all my corals and fish 2 days ago corals and fish are doing good. Phosphates are at 0.34 ppm and nitrates are 10. I was wondering if doing a 15% water changed will be wise to do? No algae no diatoms. I again thank you I was brave watching your video.
I am preparing to switch from a 75 to a 125, what are some downsides to doing it as you did? I would love to just switch everything over in one go and top it off with fresh saltwater.
Looks beautiful. It was very interesting to see how quickly you added everything. I'm going to be going through a similar process a soon as my new tank is delivered. I'm super nervous.
@@viking_reefing thank you for your reply. I am swaping my tank aswell and little bit worried. Will there be any bacteria imbalance that can effect my lps and acro?
@ sure, there will definitely be some instability. Just be on point with water changes and perhaps add some life source from aquaforest and you should be alright :)
I'm planning on upgrading also. My nano has been growing SPS well for the last 2 years from mostly an inch frag; and looking at the growing rate, maybe in the next 1-2 year colonies will be too tight. That's the window to prepare an upgrade. I was planning on cycling the new tank 3-6monts prior to do tank transfer, but then I saw your video. Keep informing us on the progression after tank transfer. BTW good job for a successful mission.
Make much more water than you ever imagined you would need. Get a big container to house everything during the move and start early and plan for it to take 12+ hours
I know it's been 2 years but did you moved the old tank sand as well or using new one? Idk if you're gonna reply on the old video😅 but I'm researching on how to transfer my reef tank
@@viking_reefing I see. Recently I moved my tank with the sand and managed to get rid of some waste. I didn't know that bacteria in rocks only is enough. Thanks
Just found you and subscribed, good stuff. Important question, do you have one of those cool Viking hats with horns on it? Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family. Cheers.
@UCuTCerNs0AFuBGDQmKaMi9g thank you. It generally goes away on its own in a week or two I’m my experience. I always see it when I add fresh sand since there are no bacteria established in the sand yet. If you’re having long term problems I would measure silicates. That’s something that fuels it like crazy.
Looks great lots of open space, I used too much rock in mine too start, looks ok but I could have done it better. Lovely acropora colonies, I have mixture of frags and colonies in mine. 👍👍
Thanks man! I try to resist the urge to put in to much rock and rather let the corals fill in the space over time…but it’s tempting to get that full look instantly 😄
is it ok to do this but the new tank might come a day later or maybe 2days? I have a 43 gallon AIO(30gallon display) I plan on converting into a full display with sump but i have to send the tank out to the shop.
It might work. It also depends on what livestock you have. Since I have tons of sensitive stuff I wouldn’t if I could help it but it can definitely be done.
you have an excellent channel and the production is so well done. surprised you do not have more subs, excited to follow along! have you considered fragging back some of your larger colonies and introducing more colors/species of acros to the rock on the left?
Thank you! I’m just 4 videos in hehe :) I’ve actually been considering that. I like big colonies over frags but some more variety would indeed be nice!
Luckily I have a buddy with a tank 3x the size of this one if the ray would get cramped in the future :) I’ve kept FW stingrays in the past and in my experience the tank should be adequate but it’s always good to have a plan B hehe. The males get a lot smaller than the females so that’s what I’ll be getting :)
Amazing video!! Just subbed :). I am moving into a 75 gallon this week from a 36 bowed tank. My tank has been set up for 3 months and like you I am gonna use the water from my current tank for new one. I need to mix up 40 gallons of new water to add to the 75 gallon. Can I add my 2 clowns, baby royal gramma and yellow watchman goby and some CUC? And can I use the Caribsea ocean direct sand in my tank to mix in with my 40lbs of new Caribsea Special grade sand? I just worry about the fish between the new water, and new sand that my fish could die. :(. Like you I’m hoping to do this transfer in a day. I REALLY appreciate your help as I’m new to this hobby and it’s my first tanks.
Sorry, completely missed you reply man. You should be fine. I would first add the old water then slowly over a couple of hours add the newly made salt water. Make sure it’s the correct temperature and you shouldn’t have a problem. Personally I would wait a couple of days before adding the sand. Just one less variable to deal with.

Hahaha! I’ve actually had multiple reef tanks before and to be honest it wasn’t a fun experience. Although I might set up a display refugium in the future with some mangroves and stuff and plumb it to the existing sump.
@@viking_reefing lol fair enough man more tanks = more work. I have thought about a small tank for mangroves, zoas and mushrooms. Like you I have multiple angels so I’m sticking to leathers and gonies. Your reef looks great!

Threw out the old nasty stuff. No, no point in having a thick sand bed. It just traps more detritus and is harder to clean.
Do you by chance know the brand and make of that stock tank that you used? I like to locate and buy one.
