There is more than one way to reach a correct answer in mathematics. Vedic math, an ancient Indian method, sidesteps traditional computations in a manner that provides a shortcut, while being fun to use and to learn. At TEDYouth 2012, to ooh's and aah's from the amazed crowd, Gaurav Tekriwal demonstrates the magic of Vedic math.
    Talk by Gaurav Tekriwal.

Vedic Maths was developed in early 1900s by Swamiji Tirtha. There is ZERO evidence that it comes from Vedas, other than the author himself saying he found it from his interpretation of Atharva Veda. No doubt Vedic math helps solve certain problems easily, but that is nowhere close to how big mathematics is, and will not help you much in becoming a great mathematician. Instead of glorifying some false claims, we should be focussing on the real information that the Vedas possess. Like Sulba Shutra talks about the Pythagorean theorem. I dare the speaker to speak the truth and promote the real discoveries made by the early Vedas.

I go really deep with my students on why numbers work the way they do and that’s super important to understand but at the end of the day, efficiency is what we are looking for. Ultimately the less energy one has to use make a calculation, the more energy is available for other things.

Vedic fire ritual involves constructing a Bedi with 1087 (number of hymns in the Ric) tiles of similar shape and size that when put together forms a bird shaped bedi, or a square, or a circle etc., explained in a series of theorems in sulbosutra (1700 bc) many of the theorems were copied by Euclid when writing the 'Elements'.

*A team from the universities of Manchester and Exeter says it knows where the true credit lies - and it's with someone else completely.*
*The "Kerala school," a little-known group of scholars and mathematicians in fourteenth century India, identified the "infinite series" - one of the basic components of calculus - around 1350.*
      www.cbc.ca/news/technology/calculus-created-in-india-250-years-before-newton-study-1.632433
*We have all been taught in school that Calculus was discovered by (Leibniz and) Newton. But Newton’s Magnum Opus, the Principia Mathematica, in which he discusses the Calculus essential for his Laws of Motion, was written around ~1700 CE. Thus, even orthodox historians and scientists now agree that the Kerala Calculus pre-dates that of Newton by at least a clear 200 years.*
      bharathgyanblog.wordpress.com/2013/09/21/calculus-was-discovered-in-india/
Well, calculus as a whole wasn't discovered in India, some basic ideas of it.
But, did the Europeans know of the Kerala Calculus? Circumstantial evidence indicates that *they did,* as many texts from Kerala were translated and transmitted to Europe during this period by the Jesuit priests who had learnt the local languages. Further, it is well known that there have been strong links through trade from times immemorial between Kerala and the West.
I copied and pasted all of that, you can read from the given sites.

Well I believe the earlier generation in power (education designers) may see it as a necessity to keep everyone at an awareness level where one can dig further if need be - without needing to trouble people where to start. Saves a lot of time of lot of people. Combined time saving definitely matters.
But I do not know for sure if they had no absolute chance to make it simpler enough worldwide already - specially given the availability of milli second if not sub-milli second Internet knowledge base at their disposal.

Ancient Indians were best in the field of science and maths we created trigonometry, calculus , Pythagoras theorem (created by baudhayan) and many important formulas like
(a+b)^2=a^2+2ab+b^2 (created by bhaskar acharya) etc but 90% of indians don't know that and we always praise the west but don't know our own works!
