RAF Portreath During World War Two

A compilation of film clips taken in 1941 and 1942 at RAF Portreath show Ventura bombers preparing to take off for a bombing mission in France and a range of aircraft preparing to leave for the Middle East and Far East.
The hills of Carn Brea and St Agnes Beacon are easily recognisable in the background and one aerial shot even shows the harbour and beach.

Absolutely Brilliant. Somehow all this goes through my mind whenever I've been around the Airfield. A master piece of a video and I'm forever hooked on the history. RAF heritage in Cornwall has been hidden too long . I loved every minute of this video. Thanks very much.

This is amazing archive footage I've seen part of it before but there is bits of this video that have never been seen as far as I'm concerned and I've lived locally to RAF portreath all of my life

Everyone thinks of Cornwall as this back water county of England but in the war it was very much in the forefront, from testing the bouncing bomb to preparations and stationing for the d day landings as well as the normal wartime stuff. I remember very much talk of disruption and espionage as a child should the Russians invade . Nothing much has changed has it in 60 years .

I dug in telephone cables across part of the airfield in the 1980s and when I finished went for a well earned drink in the ops room.
