My 440 put coolant into the engine also. I changed the oil and got about 2 acres out of it before it started knocking. Spun a main bearing . Parked where it sits yet today. Planning on working on it this winter to see what caused it and assess the damage. It's too cool not to give it another chance.
That is exactly what happened to my dad with our other AC 440. The guy he bought it from said not to buy it because the engine was bad, since the AC 440 is basically a Steiger my dad really wanted it because of the similarities. When running it my dad would drain the water out of the oil then fill the radiator with water in hopes of passing by the summer and finishing the field. No surprise he blew the engine just like yours. Definitely a cool tractor thats worthy of a second chance.

I would NEVER cry over a 555 or a 903 going belly up or any Cummins for that matter. Ran them in the Army and for years thereafter and have never been impressed with ANY of them. Do what you want but no tears from me.
Yea at the time of filming this we didn't expect to be replacing the engine so soon. We are trying to save our 8.3 Cummins for our other AC 440. However we have found the most radical engine to squeeze in there. We are very exited to rip that 555 out. 😁
If they are cheap enough we can rebuild it and have it ready as a backup engine to put in something if we get anything that can fit a 555 in the future.
i know a guy here in southern Ontario that has a shit load of articulate tractors just sitting of all brands Allis and IH and Steigers and some Case plus Deeres. in Canada Ontario
My dad talked to a guy that had a Versatile with a 555. He swapped it out for an 8.3 and said the power difference was out of this world. The straight 6 engines pull better.
@@TheSteigerChannel sound better, and have more torque and get better fuel economy. When the original 470 gave out, it got a 504. We thought the 5.9 wasn’t going to be enough of an engine. But, it puts out more power than the original engine and does just fine. It’s a very stout built engine for its cubic inches. Turbo with an intercooler.

triple nickel is gutless ,sooner have a 903 or a 92 V8 silver from Detroit

Time for a 8.3 Cummins. Got a 5.9 in my Versatile 145, and it’s a better tractor now!

No doubt about that. The only problem is that there is no inline Cat that can fit in there without lengthening the frame.
