- Terrence Fletcher is easily the most memorable aspect of Damien Chazelle's directorial debut, Whiplash. Join me as I dicuss what makes him such a phenomenal villian, I hope you enjoy!

As a guy that went to college specifically for playing jazz, I had plenty of teachers who were intense, but nowhere near this level of abusive and scary. So in a way, I've always seen this movie as a little...unrealistic? In a good way though. It's great drama. And truth be told, some of the stuff in this film just reminds me of how poorly I treated myself during that period of the my life. As I grew up and my ambitions evolved, I learned to understand what I was wanting to get out of what I was being taught. Great video Xander!
I love the work that was put into this. The Greenscreen effects, the props, everything! I'm gonna need a tutorial from you.
i love this video, it was a great analysis and i only disagree in on aspect, when you say Pocahontas villain is uni dimensional by only caring about barebone motives like gold, i don´t think it cares that much the objective the villan has, i think is more about why does he want it, how does he fight to get it, his determination, and in general how the villain and his mindset carries trought the movie. i Haven´t watched pocahontas so i guess that the reason why you say its a bad villain its because he fails at those aspects, and not for his actual goal.
I can´t say much more about this video, i love it, the edition, the narration, the aspects you choose to explain a perfect villain, everything is perfect.
I hope you liked doing it too and i hope that you make more videos like this one ❤
Xander man your videos have just gotten so good like the editing and the presenting and your on screen chaRIZZma and everything. So so proud of you and how far you’ve come!! I really agree with everything you said here too. Such a great analysis of such an interesting character. I never had any music teachers who were anywhere near that cruel but definitely had dance teachers who were and this film sent shivers down my spine at every turn. Incredible. Magnificent. Fantastic. Your best yet (until the next one)
Thank you Snugking, right back at you 👑
Great analysis Xander. And honestly, those three checkpoints are on point on what makes a great villain or antagonist.
Though to be fair, it also depends on tone and atmosphere of a film on what makes perfect villain for a certain story, sometimes a joke villain would be better while a frightening despair filled villain would fill others.
Personally, the best villains are the ones that truly affect ourselves or what affects our loved ones, people who you disagree with, but you can understand where they come from!
Great job Xander and Happy Thanksgiving!
I don’t know why it took me forever to watch this movie, but now that I’ve finally done so, I can say that this video was definitely something I needed cause I was not expecting Fletcher to go that hard. J.K Simmons’ performance is incredible. A well done video of yours as usual.
J.K. Simmons is also Stanford from Gravity Falls and the Yellow M&M. Man’s got range.
Super interesting take, and I agree, honestly!
But for me, and when I did my video on it, I focused on Andrew because I feel he wasn't just manipulated by Fletcher.
I feel Andrew is self destructive from the word go and Fletcher only fed on this, and as you said allowing Fletcher to win also imo gave Andrew the peace of mind he was battling the whole film.
And they all win. It's kinda feel good, haha
(Ps I don't know if you saw my essay on it 😅)
great vid as always. I've been trying to expand my non-weeb media palette lately and this movie seems like a good one to check out. thanks for bringing it to my attention
GOATed stuff, as always, my friend 👌
Good analysis. Love this movie. JK Simmons killed it as Fletcher.
Amazing video man!
Did you know? After watching Whiplash, Tetsuya Takahashi requested to the music team at MonolithSoft to take a jazz direction to Xenoblade 2: Torna, The Golden Country, and has since made the series much jazzier.
That’s hilarious
how the heck do you only have 17k?! amazing video
Happy Thanksgiving

I think Kingpin from the daredevil series is one of the best villains in television.
