- Conan the Barbarian (1982) marked a significant inflection point in Arnold Schwarzenegger's career, setting him on the path to becoming a global film icon.
This video explores the intertwining of bodybuilding and cinema, focusing on Schwarzenegger's journey from bodybuilder to Hollywood star and the film's parallels to Arnold's own will to power.
Your a master of your craft Shawn! I loved Arnolds look in Conan, inspired me to want to emulate him!
I loved Arnold's scaled down look in this Conan movie. He looked bigger in Destroyer - slightly more "Bodybuilder-ish"? But I can definitely see why Conan resonated as the initial go-to Arnold movie with so many meathead-nerds from that early era. Arnold was indeed, perfectly cast and no one else could've pulled it off
Yet another fantastic video. Always love your takes Shawn. But the videos featuring Arnold are always my favorites.
Hey Jordan. Nice to see you again and thanks for the comment! I love the Arnold stuff too as there's always so much meat on the bone to discuss. The difficulty is in finding the visuals to accompany all the stuff I want to talk about in one vid, but glad you liked it! 🙏💯💪
@@carvedouttastone did you like all the new footage recently released from pumping iron, is there a lot of usable footage there for you?
This might just be your finest montage video yet!
Your narrative content was equally outstanding, as well as entertaining.
Your poignant parallels of art versus real life were both insightful and interesting.
Great to see you continuing to put out this awesome & original content!
👍👌💪👊🤩
Thanks CW - that is high praise and I appreciate it
You have crafted a masterpiece, which explains why the film resonates so much with its fans and Arnold's place in it. The bringing together of the right director, the right cast, the right production crew at the right time is rare and fortuitous.

Please explain.
Thanks goes to you for initially sparking my curiosity for going back to discover the film which I had dismissed in the first place. I've written much more that I want to make subsequent videos about, but I thought I'd release it in parts because my long form videos flop hard.
The only challenge I face with subsequent parts is the visuals - do I inevitably reuse the same stills/video snippets or....I haven't yet figured out the "or" to make it happen. 😂
Now that Terminator has just turned 40, I think I owe that film the analysis it deserves too ;-)
Oh, how I wish I could do RUclips full-time 😂😂
You are quite the wordsmith. The drawing together of your thorough research and your superb literary abiility result in great commentary. The visuals support your words, but it is the commentary, which puts your art in a class of its own. I look forward to your next project.
I remember watching the first movie, "Conan The Barbarian" at the matinee every weekend. Legend
I hope some small theatre shows this again on the big screen so I can appreciate it in its intended format. I can imagine the impact it had on audiences at the time. We don't get that visceral movie experience anymore.
Great video Shawn. Wheres your coffee link?
@@armagansabetian5269 hey mate great to hear from you again and glad you liked the video. Thank you for supporting me always www.buymeacoffee.com/carvedstone
@@carvedouttastone No worries mate. I enjoy your content. Small contribution to support it.
@armagansabetian5269 thanks you again Armagan - you're fkn amazing and I'm so appreciative 🙏🏆
Great video
@@BatmanBoss thank you BatmanBoss. I had never seen Conan before, so I want to do a short series to something I'm just appreciating now without any hind sight
“I have known many gods. He who denies them is as blind as he who trusts them too deeply. I seek not beyond death. It may be the blackness averred by the Nemedian skeptics, or Crom's realm of ice and cloud, or the snowy plains and vaulted halls of the Nordheimer's Valhalla. I know not, nor do I care. Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when the blue blades flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content.”
-Conan The Barbarian
Love the quote - thank you for sharing and watching!
Another very enjoyable video.. Having pixked up my first conan comic book in 1987 im.still a fan so you have done great justice to the character and the review of the movie. Your friend jamie upset me with what he said about Howard. The man had some issues obviously but left an incredible literary legacy that has spawned movues, cartoons, novels, comics along with so mary other characters he created like Kull and Solomon Kane. The average person is easily forgotten after theyre gone but to leave something decent behind that people can forever enjoy isnt easy.
I had never seen Conan before and I recall Jamie's distaste for the movie and everything surrounding it. I was pleasantly surprised and the more i dove into the research (I've got 3 potential parts to this series of videos written), the more I grew to admire Howard, Milius, Arnold and everyone else that was directly or indirectly associated with the various parts coming together in time to create something that will span the ages. Thanks again for your comments Stefanos. Glad this video connected with you!
hello. I'm Lucas, from Argentina! Nice to greet you. Do you think Sylvester Stallone bullies Arnold? I heard recently that Stallone said that he was throwing a vase of flowers at Arnold over the head and Arnold didn't react. or that he grabbed Arnold to dance tango and Arnold just didn't react. as if he let himself be dominated by Stallone. What do you think
Another banger Thankyou sir 🫡
Thanks always for your wonderful support and kind comments Milkman
Well.maybe he is not great actor still enjoying is movies
@@ramshaar2597 I love Arnold's movies and I think his acting ability synchronizes with the quality of the script. I think Arnold's body of work improved over time until he became governor and then it again declined. Thanks for watching
Another great video.
@@chandansimms9167 thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
Арнольд Все Посчитал... Я забыл что там написано... Я хочу поздороваться С Рэгом Парком Классно Выглядел... Кинопоцелуй. Ты не Снимался в нем 13 лет
Great video , Conan the Barbarian is better than anything Slyster Stallone did.
Thanks Ebony. Yeah, my co-host and I argue this point as he hates Conan and loves Stallone. I think that Arnold could've played any of Stallone's roles, but Stallone could never play Conan, The Terminator or any of Arnold s iconic and enduring characters
A triumph of mini-documentaries Shawn. Top of your game Matey. Don't stop now. Hammer and Thongs all the way!
Hey mate! I wondered where you were! Thanks for weighing in on this one. Always happy to hear your input and feedback. We really gotta jump on that call again sometime. I've been tied up to the point my content and interviews have slowed, but let's pick it up again sometime - even just for a chat is good 👍
@@carvedouttastone Anytime Brother. Ill set the time.
I love it 🙏
High praise from you sir. Thank you!
This was a masterpiece! Thanks for the info about such a legendary film
Oh man that's huge praise. Thank you so much for watching and letting me know! ❤️
Awesome take on Conan - great video
You're welcome IH!
Your Quote '' Trusting his faith in the Iron'' couldnt be more in Line with the movie, great video !
Thank you mate. I tried to connect those parallels as much as possible, and there's definite resonance with Arnold's own "will to power" and Conan's rise to triumph.
“No one in this world can you trust, not men, not women, not beasts. This…this you can trust”
@@thomascarpenter3423 the irony being that the iron fails him ten minutes later when he's eaten by the attack dogs. And then Conan goes on throughout the movie to learn to put his trust in the friends who he bonds with
Conan didn't cheat and manipulate his way to the top
And you weren't anywhere to know what you are talking about.
Conan's code of ethics was iron-clad, but he dealt with arguably a more simple age where ultimately might = right
I really, really enjoyed this!
So glad to hear mate because I didn't know how it would land with Conan fans after only having just watched it myself recently. I have a few more parts to the series written if anyone else would like me to continue this on focusing more on the film itself
Just keep doing what you're doing! The artistic license that you employ is quite refreshing! Your variety of videos keeps it interesting. Thanks again.
so much better than the Lewis interviews. Great job.
haha, Not a fan of Jamie's content? I can see that he's polarising to many, but he's an interesting guy with some unique takes. He shares our own love of the history of the iron game, so I enjoy bouncing ideas off him in our Live chats.
@@carvedouttastone he's just gotten boring and I stopped watching his content...broken record . Always negative.
