Suici.De.spair track makes justice to her name, this whole album is just a fucking masterpiece of sadness. 41 minutes of pure despair witch I enjoy because of my depression, finishing a bottle of sangria without knowing what more to drink.
Honestly, dsbm has always helped counter my own depression. I'm genuinely glad I found this genre and, more specifically, this band. It's quite the feeling, hearing someone expressing themselves in such a way that it is, essentially, what you're feeling too, if that makes sense. When someone else perfectly captures that emotion, it's art in it's most visceral and pure form imo. Just raw emotion.
I recommend reading Arthur Schopenhauer’s essay entitled “The Metaphysics of Music.” He touches upon this very thing. It helps to have a bit of background knowledge on his philosophy of the Will and its role as the kernel of existence, but reading that essay afforded me a much deeper appreciation for music in general, which Schopenhauer privileged as the highest form of art as he saw it as embodying the Will itself.

@@Tee-ps9bj I've never really read much Nietzsche, but the little I have read of him is actually quite engaging. That said, from the general understanding of his thought that I do possess, I'm honestly not a fan. I'm much more inclined towards Platonism (something Schopenhauer himself was very much influenced by, and something Nietzsche railed against). Nietzsche himself was very much anti-metaphysical and thought metaphysical speculation was a waste of time, which I vehemently disagree with. From what I can tell, he was essentially an ethical emotivist and metaphysical materialist, two positions I can't say I agree with. I do respect his place in the genealogy of Western thought and there's a reason his influence has endured, however I'm also a political person and I think much of his thought in that regard is either a dead-end, or gives rise to more detestable and vacuous forms of thought (post-modernism, post-structuralism, etc.).
Perfect amount of melancholy and metal in this one, my favorite from Thy Light. Although the piano intro of Suicide Depression is amazingly great. Thanks and keep hope.
