Every doctor is going to tell their patients stop smoking, cut down your drinking, cut down your meat intake, work out more, etc. They know 80 to 90 percent of patients will not make lifestyle changes in the face of diagnosis or findings of manageable ailments like high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, etc. That's why they have to prescribe blood pressure meds, insulin, statins, etc. My doctor when I was diagnosed with type 2 pre diabetes told me straight up I needed to get in better shape, eat right and start working out. He put me on metformin but told me if I can get in better shape I will be off all of my meds and told me about the keto diet. I did the keto diet and worked out for 6 months and my A1C went back to normal, blood pressure was excellent, cholesterol was normal and he took me off all my meds. So doctors do want to help but if the patients don't want help nothing they can do.
