Thank you Harry Soo ! I have been a Weber fan for 30 years and a fan of yours since you started. I have used your rub recipes exclusively for all these years for all my cooks. I own an original Traeger 075 for my smoker and a Weber natural gas grill for grilling. I have been thinking lately about an upgrade. Well this is it. Thank you much for the video. I am sold ! Tell Weber to hook you up ! Your attention to detail is awesome . And yes give us more nerdy videos. I like details on specs.
I appreciate the detailed analysis of the Weber SmokeFire. It sure looks like a hit and I may have to get me one! Wish I could have joined all of you for a great time in Chicago!!!

If you watch Part 2, we ate the brisket cooked by Dustin and Kevin. I have to say they were on par with Pecan Lodge Dallas, Franklin Austin, and Pinkertons Houston. I'll report back with real world results once I get some airtime of one of these puppies! The cook session we had was only about an hour or so.

Thanks for the video Harry. Always been a Weber fan. Pretty cool to see that getting into the smoke game. I’m up in the air? Might wait it out a little bit to see how the first generation works out. Or at least for you to put out a few more videos. Thanks again Harry
GREAT review Harry! Loved hearing you describe how the vents keep the smokey flavor in. My current pellet grill never could equal the flavor my Smokey Mountain or my Primo Kamado gives me. Your approval is enough for me, sir! Looking forward to trying it for myself. Mahalo!
Appreciate the excellent overview of this smoker. I’ve considered pellet smokers previously but passed on even high end versions because the product they produced lacked even a hint of smoke flavor. I’m looking forward to further videos and hope you continue to address that feature. Thanks Harry.
The same thing has scared me off pellet smokers, any time I have been to a bbq restaurants they use pellet smokers and the taste of the smoke is always light at best.
I knew it would be a homerun except for them tiny wheels thanks for clearing that up. The small wheels would be fine for someone going in and out of the garage or just leaving it on their patio. I’m always traveling places with the pellet grill I have right now. It’s heavy and cumbersome I load it onto a utility trailer or into the back of my truck. Which I always need help. Once getting to a location (party) it’s nice having large wheels to go across the grass and not have to carry the pellet cooker. It is very nice to hear that A large wheel kit will be available!!! I will be buying the 36 inch in the next year or two!!! For sure!!!! Thanks for the great and honest review Harry! I’m looking forward to seeing some of your cooks on this new product!!!
Wow, nice job on the review Harry! Weber was brilliant for bringing you in, people trust you. They definitely need those larger wheels and shelves. Thanks for thinking of all the questions!

Dang Harry. I'm 4:55 in and you have already displayed the detail that any potential buyer should want to know. I'm happy with my small world and my BGE but this look like a neat product.
Thx Harry for the information, up to this point I was thinking about MAYBE getting a pellet smoker. After watching this video I know for sure now I want one and this will be be the 1 I buy. Thanks again great job as always.
Great video Harry. It is a very intriguing grill. I can not wait until you put it through the mini pancake test. It will be interesting to see it in the real world, and maybe it will be the cooker that does everything really well, but not one thing great. Cant wait to see more. Cheer from the Jersey Shore.
If it puts solid smoke flavor on food this would be a big-time purchase for me. It's the reason I do not like pellet cookers. Coming from offsets and other smokers the pellet cookers can never seem to get a quality smoke flavor for my taste. Great review Harry with awesome insight and information. Many thanks!
Looks very good. Only a torture test by me will convince me that it is as good as it looks. Hard to do a deep dive when 20 RUclipsrs are crowding over 4 SmokeFires! :-)
This looks like a great cooker. I think my biggest hang up for pellet cookers though, is that they're always a pain to change out the pellets if you want to switch from one flavor to another. I like to use different woods, and changing out the pellets always seems like a pain.
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Thanks. I didn't know that that was actually a feature. I actually like loading wood in an offset sometimes though, definitely not all the time for sure. But, until I get a pellet grill, I can also load up my WSM the way you showed in one of your other videos and have it cook for hours. 😉 Thanks for all your videos and advice!
Looking back on this video is really interesting. I was an early adopter, and it is cool to see the excitement we all had back then. Alot of unique design ideas, but all of those ideas did not work. I would love to see an interview with someone from Weber to explain exactly what went wrong.
Glad you enjoyed it! Weber sent me their new Searwood and I'm planning to film a throwdown between the two models. I still rank the EX6 as my fav pellet cooker to smoke briskets.
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Weber sent me the Searwood after I had so many issues with my EX4 that we couldn't figure out even after swapping out a lot of parts. I LOVE the Searwood. They learned some lessons with the SmokeFire and applied them to the Searwood. I think you will love it!
I'm very confident in Weber products. I have a 26 kettle, and a 22 WSM and a little 2-burner Summit. I'm VERY happy with all of them. That said, I believe my Camp Chef pellet smoker is superior, and much more user friendly as far as pellet management, and ease of interior clean up. Flavorizer bars are over-rated, and excess grease has to travel somewhere. It looks like the SmokeFire is seriously lacking in the ease of maintenance area, in spite of the truly awesome access panel. Just my 2-cents. Thank you for another wonderful presentation. I always learn a lot from you!
I am curious about the lack of a (or missing) drip pan. For large cooks there will be a lot of grease collecting in the bottom of the pit. (6-8 Pork butts for example) 1st, I hope the barrel is capable of holding the grease and not leaking all over the patio. 2nd, I would not enjoy cleaning that out! I get that the design incorporates their Flavour bars but they will miss a lot of fluids that have to go somewhere.
Me bad. The foil pan is the grease pan to catch all the grease. I was too busy talking the ash pan as I was wrong to assume that it was assumed that the oil pan was the foil pan. I assumed that most folks knew thet the Weber foil oil pan from Weber gas grills was the oil pan of the Smoke fire. Sorry about that
It looks like you will have even smoke and heat and not have hot spots or burn back. That is what I'm looking for I believe. I like the glow plug big time!
It's from a diesel engine. In their tests, it was better than the usual ceramic heater. I've had to light my firepot manually many times as the ceramic heaters don't last very long and it's a hassle to replace. The self service concept for the SmokeFire sound like a user-friendly idea
I recently bought an EX4 and I can tell you, I don't get near the smoke flavor out of it that i got from my Bradley. The flavors are really clean but you don't get that super Smokey flavor, so it is an adjustment for me. I thought about trying to find a way to block those 3 vents in the back to allow the smoke to stay in the shell longer to penetrate the meat.
Harry - thanks so much for posting this. I now know that I want nothing to do with a high tech pellet smoker, and will stick to my Weber Smokey Mountain for all of my BBQ needs.
Thanks for the awesome review Harry. Lots of great information. I can't wait to see what this sells for in Canada. I would like to know how it works for doing a reverse sear and how easy the clean up actually is. Thanks again.
Thanks for the in-depth review. I’m very interested. I know they tried to keep the price point low. I’m glad you addressed the shelving issue because as of now there is really no shelving. & a wheel upgrade! I’m still surprised about that igniter. It seems most have went to ceramic igniters that last a long time. I’m very interested to see how even it cooks on low & slow without a blank pan. & how even it is at 600 for steaks. If this is all proven to be even cooking, I’ll probably get one!! I’ll be waiting for more if you’re in-depth cooking reviews!! Thanks again!!
Awesome! I don’t think you remember me. I was at Juniors the Friday night before his big party. Helped build the rotisserie grill. I recently moved from TX to Baja,Ca. Going to open a BBQ food truck soon!
I dont think so. If you see my hand in the hopper, notice it is inclined? Should not be hard to scoop out the pellets as its smooth walls and nothing sharp to catch on. Maybe that's why Weber designed the sloping hopper bin? I'll as the chief engineer for you
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ at 4:15 that slanted "L" shaped piece is what you pull to dump the pellets and at 8:05 your hand is directly over the pellet dump hole from the inside. They dump directly underneath. Great video!! Lot's of good detail. Will definitely be looking for your first cook on one next year!
Excellent video - really explained well the engineering details and thought processes that went into the various features and design decisions. The only thing I wanted to learn more about was the grease factor, but that cleanup aspect is something that will have to come in time and with hands-on testing, I suppose. I am way more interested in getting one of these to replace my aging (won't say the brand) pellet smoker after watching this video!
Great review! I have owned 3 different pellet cooker brands and honestly to this point my Traeger is best. The Silverton vents out the back and is much better than the stacks. That all being said, I love the features of the Webber and Webber is a trusted name. I would love to try it, but 1000 is still steep for the small one.
Love my Treager no problems for 8 years. I've had the pellets jam twice but not that bad to fix. Never had a flare up never had a grease fire. That worries me on a long cook that started at 2am.
@@roger571967 I too love my Traeger, but I have had fires just from going high and igniting build up. I cook 4 to 5 times a week, so it really is my fault. Need to clean it more often.
I have a question??? I see where the burnt/spent pellets will go, but does the excess oil drippings fall into the burning area as well????? If so, then this could be a problem later in terms of cleanup and maintenance.
I will cook on a production unit under real world conditions and let you know. Given the amount of engineering hindsight that I saw that went into the design and the fact that all the engineers have to cook, clean, and live with the SF prototypes for many months, I guess they dealt with the cleanup chose with the same due diligence. Let me find out and post the video as Weber knows how much I hate cleaning up. I've been haranguing their product engineers since 2012 to add the magic touch cleanup to the WSM! :-).
I am glad Weber is late to the pellet party if this is the gem they came up with by learning from the mistakes everyone else made designing them. I can't wait to see the price point.
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Thank you for reviewing this! I spread the word at work and now all of the current owners of Traeger and the like want one! I even want one now that they solved the fire risk issue and I am a staunch fan of fire and wood.
I have Weber’s on my deck and love Weber but see two problems right off the bat unless I missed it. No pellet dump and what catches the grease on those long cooks, I don’t want to have to scrub it down after every cook. Most now have that plate that tilts to one side and a valve where a bucket can be placed
Harry Soo I have that System on my Weber Genesis gas grill it still gets really gunky in the bottom on the side walls I’d think that it would be even worse on low and slows
Great review Harry! I have the Camp Chef Smoke Pro LUX that I really like. One of the features that steered me toward this was the easy clean up ash can. What is clean up like on that grill. That looks like a big time winner!
70% ash falls into large ash pan. Grease flows into foil pan. We were not given an opportunity go clean tje pits in our VIP demo, only to cook on it. I'll report real world conditions after I test in the 2020 release
I'm really looking forward to the rest of the videos on this. I have the RecTec 340 and really enjoy it but this is a step up in features. I only wished it had a stainless steal barrel. Of course, that would of added an additional $200 to the price tag.
I had a small Traeger for a short while and the Achilles heal was that it would NOT sear. Others swore that it would, but mine did not. However, there were things to like about the pellet smoker. If this one can really sear, that would be great. Charcoal is good, but it's considerably more work than pellets.
On Weber's site looking for a new thermometer for my 22 " Smokey Mountain Cooker and saw the SmokeFire. Watched a video, then ended up here on your page. 1st time I've watched you and I was impressed by your description and presentation. I just hit the subscribe button. Can't wait to see more on this unit. I want a pellet smoker, I think, but like many don't like the design flaws in many.
Great video Harry!! I find it hard to believe that the smoke taste off this pellet grill will taste as Smokey as an offset smoker. If it really does I will definitely buy one. I got rid of my past pellet smoker because it didn’t give me enough smoke flavor. I will stay tuned.
Unfortunately you did not have a chance to do a longer cook with ribs / brisket / shoulder. What is your best guess about how close the Smokefire will come to stick / charcoal cookers?
I will have a best guess after I complete a real world cook once I get an SF. Hard to give a proper opinion after a manufacturer show-m-tell launch event.
so the barrel design looks like my timberline 1300. I dig the auger setup. they need to slap that 10yr warranty on this cooker. especially with it being soo new. $100 in wheels for an upgrade to the bigger wheel set? what are they made of? IDK ill keep my eyes on this as I am also a weber user with my 22' Performer and my Ranch Kettle.
I made up the $100 as I want pneumatic off road wheels with anodized aluminum rims! Spinning wheel lights would be a bonus! See Part 2 for Ranch Kettle on steroids in the Weber restaurant kitchen
I'm a big fan of Weber grills. I went with Yoder for the the pellet option tho. While its easy to use, I still haven't been able to duplicate a stick burner flavor even with amazen tubes. I'm curious to see what this produces! Its affordable, like the searing aspect. Going to be exciting to see how it performs out in the real world.
Thanks Harry! Amazing recap. I believe the sides are double walled but not the lid, correct? Did they say how well it holds temp in cold and freezing temperatures or if it needs a thermal blanket in colder temps? Cheers!
I'm curious about that as well. I was gonna ask, but since you did I'll just piggy back off your question. Awesome review Harry, looking forward to hearing your own personal experience!!
I was watching for this too. I just bought a Traeger Ironwood and was already wishing I got the Timberline for the double walled lid and the tighter seal.
Yes,both end pieces to the barrel are insulated. When the grate and cover were 500F, I touched the sides and they felt about 275F. It is well engineered and UL-certified in the US and Canada so it a safe outdoor appliance.
I have found that with pellet cookers you just don’t get enough Smokey flavor. The WSM is the best for it. My GMG Davey Crocket works well but again, I just don’t get enough smoke flavor. I have also heard that from a guy using a Traeger.
I hear ya Bro. So did the Weber engineers when they cooked on 18 pellet comoetitor cookers. Not sure if you saw the part about no chimneys for smoke in part 1 and my Impression of brisket in part 2. I will test in real world conditions in 2020 when it hits the streets
What a great informative video! Thanks Harry! I had been stalking your RUclips/ Instagram and Justin's when I seen y'all got the invite. Great stuff! I can't wait to place an order.
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ You're the man Harry! Also, next year for my birthday I told my wife I wanted to take your class if you're still offering it. I'm ready for some black belt tricks!
The only thing I don’t like about that design is there is no drip tray, it’s going to be a mess to clean the inside of that grill. I like that the auger is located up top and drops the pellets down. It needs silicone seals on the doors to keep the smoke in. That’s one thing with the traeger that you had to do to keep the smoke in and not escape through little cracks in the lid
Harry Soo I have a traeger and my friend has a green mountain grill.i do not have a weber those were just some things that I noticed that were diff from the traeger I own
Great video! I totally agree with you that it looks like Weber took all of the downfalls of the other pellet cookers and fixed them. Pellet chute instead of auger delivery all the way to the firepot is huge. I've seen a few hopper fires across different brands of pellet cookers and they are no fun! The use of flavorizor bars instead of a full deflector plate is awesome. This video is the first time I've seen that Weber thought about making it easy to change the ignitor (glow plug). That is a big deal.
Their efforts shows and making their engineers cook on 18 competitors for a year before starting design on the SmokeFire surely helped. We had numerous engineers talk to us which I cannot reveal due to NDA but take my word that they know their competitor's strengths and weaknesses like the back of their own hands.
Is the grill body cast aluminum like the Weber gas grills? Larger wheels will be nice. I hope the flavorizer bars and the pellet cooker cover can be upgraded to SS304. In your opinion will a GrillGrates option, if offered, work with this grill? Appreciate the video.
Body is enamel coated steel which s very durable. My WSMs have the same finish and they are 10 years old and still going strong. I think the flavorizers are SS. The teepee is enamel coated steel so it is easier to clean according to Weber engineers.
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ THX Harry. My Weber Genesis Silver is around 25 yrs old and still kicking. My WSM is just over 3 yrs old and running fine. Weber make a quality product at a decent price point.
I own two Weber products. Very happy with both. Seems like all of the reviews are on it's ability to cook at high temps. I want to see more on it's smoking abilities. Not sure the flavor bars will evenly control the heat on smoking. Just my 2 cents.

Great video Harry. It is a very intriguing grill. I can not wait until you put it through the mini pancake test. It will be interesting to see it in the real world, and maybe it will be the cooker that does everything really well, but not one thing great. Cant wait to see more.
Cheer from the Jersey Shore.
Please see parts 2, 3, 4 coming soon
I’m a diehard Treager owner but this has me intrigued. If it will truly smoke and get up to a sear temp of 600° then Weber has a winner.
Yes it was flaming hot. See Part 2
The brisket that Dustin and Kevin cooked in Part 2 was IMHO as good as Pecan Lodge Dallas, Franklin Austin, and Pinkersons Houston
Great Video Harry, It looks like the Smokefire is well engineered. Be looking forward to you and Justin
Make it Happen.
Looks very good. Only a torture test by me will convince me that it is as good as it looks. Hard to do a deep dive when 20 RUclipsrs are crowding over 4 SmokeFires! :-)
Nice overview. Looking forward to seeing you put it through real world testing.
This looks like a great cooker. I think my biggest hang up for pellet cookers though, is that they're always a pain to change out the pellets if you want to switch from one flavor to another. I like to use different woods, and changing out the pellets always seems like a pain.
There is a chute release and you just empty the pellets. I think a pain is to chop wood and load a log every 30 minutes for an offset!
Great review. Looking forward to seeing the new grill.
Will report back after In get some real world world cooking experience on it
Looking back on this video is really interesting.
Great Review...Looking forward for this to come to market.
Cyber Monday Dec 2 to preorder if you want
As always Harry, Thanks for sharing! You just sold me on the Weber Smokefire lol
You are very welcome Robbycast!
Let me try out and let you know
I am curious about the lack of a (or missing) drip pan.
You always give an honest review. Thank you for that Harry. I love your videos and keep up them awesome videos. Say hello to Mr. Beans!
Thanks for your support and kind words! I'll say hello to Mr. Beans. 👌👍❤
I recently bought an EX4 and I can tell you, I don't get near the smoke flavor out of it that i got from my Bradley. The flavors are really clean but you don't get that super Smokey flavor, so it is an adjustment for me. I thought about trying to find a way to block those 3 vents in the back to allow the smoke to stay in the shell longer to penetrate the meat.
stick to your equipment that you like. Sell the EX4 and keep your Bradley.
Harry - thanks so much for posting this. I now know that I want nothing to do with a high tech pellet smoker, and will stick to my Weber Smokey Mountain for all of my BBQ needs.
Can't go wrong with the WSM!
Very informative video. I'm very impressed with this cooker.
Thanks for the awesome review Harry. Lots of great information. I can't wait to see what this sells for in Canada. I would like to know how it works for doing a reverse sear and how easy the clean up actually is. Thanks again.
You are very welcome. Thanks for stopping by.
Please watch parts 2, 3, and 4 which hopefully answers your questions
Very Kool! This may be my first Pellet grill😎 Thanks for sharing and for the review! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Ric. I have Parts 2, 3, and 4 soon
Awesome! I don’t think you remember me. I was at Juniors the Friday night before his big party. Helped build the rotisserie grill. I recently moved from TX to Baja,Ca. Going to open a BBQ food truck soon!
@@RicsBBQSpecialties awesome Ric. Best of luck
Excellent detailed review Harry
Weber just changed the game.
Only time will tell. I'll report in 2020 after I cook it under real world conditions
This is the review I needed. Thank you.
You're very welcome. Glad you foun Part 1 helpful. Part 2 is brisket, pizza, steaks. Part 3 is my first cook while jostling with 10 other Influencers!
If you want to change the pellets out to a different kind, can you? Does it have a lever to clean out the pellets?
@@yambor44 thanks for pointing it out
Excellent video - really explained well the engineering details and thought processes that went into the various features and design decisions. The only thing I wanted to learn more about was the grease factor, but that cleanup aspect is something that will have to come in time and with hands-on testing, I suppose. I am way more interested in getting one of these to replace my aging (won't say the brand) pellet smoker after watching this video!
Yes, I will test under real world conditions and report back. Cleaning up is an important step and, like you, I want to find out how easy it is.
Great write up Harry, very comprehensive!!
Thanks
Definitely looking forward to these hitting the market!
Feel free to checkout part 2 steaks and Parr 3 cook
I'll test it an share results
We were informed that the SmokeFire is UL-Listed in USA and Canada and was subjected to rigorous safety and fire tests in order to be certified.
The 24 is $999 and 36 is $1,199 me thinks. Puts Weber in the sweet spot price range of its competitors
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Thank you for reviewing this! I spread the word at work and now all of the current owners of Traeger and the like want one! I even want one now that they solved the fire risk issue and I am a staunch fan of fire and wood.
Looking forward to your results videos. This is way out of my price range but, something I really want to look at getting...
These are pricey but in the sweet spot $ with regards to their competitors
I have Weber’s on my deck and love Weber but see two problems right off the bat unless I missed it. No pellet dump and what catches the grease on those long cooks, I don’t want to have to scrub it down after every cook. Most now have that plate that tilts to one side and a valve where a bucket can be placed
Grease flows into the foil pan. Please see Weber video on SmokeFire. I'll ask their chief engineer on how to change pellets
Harry Soo I have that System on my Weber Genesis gas grill it still gets really gunky in the bottom on the side walls I’d think that it would be even worse on low and slows
thank ypu
Hey Tommy you're very welcome
Thanks Tech Head. Feel free to check out Parts 2, 3, 4 posting soon
I had a small Traeger for a short while and the Achilles heal was that it would NOT sear. Others swore that it would, but mine did not. However, there were things to like about the pellet smoker. If this one can really sear, that would be great. Charcoal is good, but it's considerably more work than pellets.
Yes please see part 2 and 3 to see it sear
On Weber's site looking for a new thermometer for my 22 " Smokey Mountain Cooker and saw the SmokeFire. Watched a video, then ended up here on your page. 1st time I've watched you and I was impressed by your description and presentation. I just hit the subscribe button. Can't wait to see more on this unit. I want a pellet smoker, I think, but like many don't like the design flaws in many.
Welcome to my channel Thomas where you will find 200+ videos and 30 Playlists to help you master barbeque! I'll be cooking on the SmokeFire soon
Great video Harry!! I find it hard to believe that the smoke taste off this pellet grill will taste as Smokey as an offset smoker. If it really does I will definitely buy one. I got rid of my past pellet smoker because it didn’t give me enough smoke flavor. I will stay tuned.
The brisket in Part 2 cooked by Dustin Green and Kevin Kolman was as good as Pecan Lodge Dallas, Franklin Austin, and Pinkertons Houston
I’m really liking it. Already having a rec tec 700, I have no need to replace it but I would be looking at that bigger model if I didn’t.
I'll report back after I complete real world testing on it
Harry Soo I appreciate the financial sacrifice you’ll be making for us lol. I’m excited to see it in action
Can't wait I would love to have one today
On sale Dec 2 Cyber Monday
I'm a big fan of Weber grills. I went with Yoder for the the pellet option tho. While its easy to use, I still haven't been able to duplicate a stick burner flavor even with amazen tubes. I'm curious to see what this produces! Its affordable, like the searing aspect. Going to be exciting to see how it performs out in the real world.
I will cook and let you know if it holds up to the hype!
It would be interesting to do a side-by-side compare
I live in Los Angeles so I'm not going to be a good cold weather review person! :-)
They are going after rec Tec! Good luck with that
How it cooks and cleanup is more interesting to me so I'll leave the looks to others. 😂
Hey Joe, no need to stalk. Just ask and comment away. I answer ALL comments and take suggestions from my loyal viewers!
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ You're the man Harry! Also, next year for my birthday I told my wife I wanted to take your class if you're still offering it. I'm ready for some black belt tricks!
Thank you great review.
Are your comments based on owning one and cooking at least a dozen times? Or is it a virtual experience you are sharing?
Harry Soo I have a traeger and my friend has a green mountain grill.i do not have a weber those were just some things that I noticed that were diff from the traeger I own
Great summary Harry! Between Amazing Ribs.com, Justin and you, it is all covered.
Thanks. Watch for Parts 2, 3, 4 coming soon
I will do some real world tests and report back. We only had a brief time to cook on it. Please see Parts 2 and 3
