It would be great if Amtrak decided with the railroads, the states of Colorado & Wyoming to have a loop route between Denver & Cheyenne. The route would be Denver-Brighton-Greeley-Cheyenne-Fort Collins-Loveland-Longmont-Boulder-Broomfield-Denver. The trains would go in a loop. All highways between Denver and Cheyenne are so congested & saturated. The trains are the Only best & smart option.

Dang, I wish this train still ran when I was a student at UNC Greeley. Would have been a nice option to take the train between there and Denver instead of having to drive it.
Has the Pioneer been an F40PH-exclusive train until the end? In other words, was the Pioneer never powered by Dash 8 Pepsi-Cans or AMD-103/110 Genesis locomotives?
Not the Dash 8’s unfortunately, but the Genesis units? Yes. The is video taken in 1997 around 5 am in Boise Idaho will show it all: ruclips.net/video/Q1B2dgjGfJU/видео.htmlsi=HHsQfDYUlQXKJJ3y

Seattle and Portland to Denver via Boise, Ogden, and Cheyenne. It combined with the California Zephyr at Denver for the rest of the run to Chicago. This train should have never been cut. Same with the Desert Wind.
Train 26 would've been an eastbound train, as all eastbound and northbound Amtrak trains have numbers that end in something even(i.e. 2, 4, 6, 8, 0). Westbound and southbound trains have train numbers that ends in an odd number(-1, 3, 5, 7, 9).
the democrats had cut corners everywhere for Amtrak which the leads to amtraks pioneer service to its demise and the ceo at the time in 1997 named Thomas downs is a democrat
Tiffany, not sure if you're a Trump-bot or just can't speak English. Thomas Downs successfully lobbied for and was awarded 2.3 Billion for Amtrak. He was pressured out by Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole who called for the dismantling of Amtrak. They appointed a new board of directors and ultimately cut funding which resulted in the discontinuation of the Pioneer.

My Dad, Al Taylor, is the engineer who made the frowning face stickers and applied them to the front of the locomotive when it headed east.
The eye and eyebrow stickers remained on the locomotive for years after; possibly until #323 was retired.
Great catch!! Never see footage of this long gone train!
I rode this train in '96. I had no idea it ceased just a year later.
I miss those old Amtraks
The sunlight reflecting on that 2nd U.P. unit makes the lettering look pretty cool!
That frowny face on the F40 is a nice, but somber touch.
another super video, thats some mean looking weather as well
Poor Locomotive She is crying So sad :( Wish Amtrak could bring her back so she would be happy again
Amtrak is currently discussing service restoration. They are also discussing service restoration of the Desert Wind.
Missouri Pacific also ran a train called The Pioneer, up through the early 1960s. I think it was a San Antonio-to-Laredo train.
A vintage run of modern equipment. Nice transfer job.
I like the frowny face denoting it's last run.
"Hello, Mr Horse".
beautiful, love this

Okay who spray painted a face on that f40 XD
Where does the Pioneer originally run? Is train 26 east or west?

Did Amtrak Went To Cheyenne?
They stopped at Borie, which is about 10 miles west of Cheyenne. There was an "Amshack" there at Borie.
I know Amtrak I know. You are going to be retired forever
