I was in the audience for this show (in fact, if you watched the broadcast I was actually interviewed by Joel with my twin sister because we dressed up as Jedward) - and this performance absolutely brought the house down! Everyone standing around us was rooting for her, and she definitely deserved the win. Of course there are things lacking with the performance, but with a public broadcaster budget she knocked it out of the park. She even said herself she wants to upgrade the staging to make it bigger and better, and as for her voice she says she's looking forward to training hard to get even fitter to sustain those notes (which by the way she killed in my opinion). As for her costuming, the ruff is a style she's worn in another music video of hers for her song READY, and her album art for Complex, among others - whether she'll get rid of it who knows but I thought it was cool and unique! I can't wait to see her crush it in Rotterdam!
RickyPro haha thanks - i agree, jaguar was absolutely incredible and i would have been stoked to see her win it - in fact i loved all the songs live except maybe mitch and diana
I was in the audience, up in the seats and we saw you guys walk thru the convention centre before the show and knew immediately you were Jedward. So cool! Touches everyone around the globe including Toowoomba lol
The mixing needs a rework, the staging is a mess, the costume is a no, and the vocals need work Butttt I really like the song, and she’s giving it her all and I think it could go far in Eurovision
Seriously viewers, if Kate's staging can earn her the most memorable staging 2019 after the finals despite being criticised for having similarities to estonia 2018 when she first won Australia Decides, I'm sure Montaigne will be able to do it. Trust the Aussies.
But the difference is that Kate's staging complemented her vocals and the song. People just thought it was weird. However, the staging for Montaigne is making it way harder for her to sing, and it just seems like the staging is clashing with her and her song.
SK Z I’m mean that’s why they have time to refine. They might take the majority out and just work on her voice, it’ll be cool to see how it changes tho.
The studio version is loads better. She can learn to keep her voice steady while dancing, or she can get simpler choreography--singing and doing all this intense stuff is *not* easy. I'm sure she'll be wonderful next year 💕
At first I thought I wouldn't like the song, but now I can't stop listening to it. I thing it's absolutely lovely! Good luck, Australia! Love from Romania!❤️
My 12 points from Russia go to Australia this year ! Montaigne ...you is the best! The perfomance and your feelings are so true! I believe in your victory! From Moscow with love❣
Don't break her please, song and singer are quirky and brilliant, we need this in Eurovision. And we love Australia to be part of our annual party, they live this with genuine passion.
Not a fan of this performance, but having seen her live at the intimate gig, I won't downsize her. Wait until you hear her properly... She is still a great aspiring young artist from Down under.
Imagine commenting saying this performance "is a mess" when it's literally meant to be like that... but that said, this performance is in no way underwhelming, amateur or a mess... She will slay the eurovision stage.
Joshua Stankowski i think the messy performance is to give the feeling of a messy mind during or after a abusive relationship. At least that is what i think it is.
This song is such a grower.. The first time I listened to it I though it was just an OK song which would not catch many attention.. but the more I listen to it, it makes me realize how amazing this song is! Its now always on repeat on my spotify this whole week
I really love the way she is expressing the feelings. Yes maybe the staging isn t the best but the song can be in a good light. Overall the song may get some modifications but as I said I really love her emotions. Good luck from Romania! *She is in my top 5 right now*
The staging is...bad. She is so beautiful, but with that look she is just weird (not in a good way). This kind of song should be presented in a completely different way
@@MrDani275 why - cause if they will not change it, it will be the same thing that happened to Portugal last year (people were loving it, but staging was awful and it didn't make it to the final). What would i do - i would make it more static, so that Montaigne would be able to show her vocals at her best ( back dancers can bring enough dinamism to this entry), i would surely change her look COMPLETELY, and would make the LED animation and camera work more dinamic, soulful (since this song is about breakout) and interesting overall
@@lolkek8221 First of all, that could happen but you don't know that. I do not agree about Portugal, i liked that song (and staging) but people generally disliked that song. @@toniproductions3251 The common linnerts wanted it in a 1 shot but is was technicall to difficult. So it was 4 shots i think. It was still very impressive for a live show.
I don't get it why everyone hates the vocals. I think that the shaky vocals go well with the song's lyrics. This should get a high ranking looking at the juries standarts.
@JUJU paradise All the songs are pure trash? I think that is the most unreasonable and most unpopular opinion about this years eurovision. It has to be one of the best and strongest ever.
100% agree. If she stood there her vocals would be on point but it would take away the whole performance. I love the rawness of this. Still in my top 3!
Well, in that case every singer could excuse poor vocals saying "It just fits my song better". It doesn't work like that. Participants are expected to deliver proper vocals. If you want vocals that sound fitting to a song like this, make them sound like you interpret your lyrics, and not like your performance hinders your singing abilities.
Kate was underrated by the European community, while it was good. Montaigne is overhyped by the European community and is bad. Don't Break Me is Australia's first ever bad entry.
It’s a masterpiece, she’s expressing herself in a creative way in relation to the lyrics. That’s what a true artist does The UK and Australia have always had a special connection I love the song Good luck 🇬🇧 + 🇦🇺 = 💓
Maddie Ziegler dancing: OH MY GOD SHE'S A GENIOUS Montaigne dancing: OH MY GOD THAT'S HORRIBLE Vocals aren't that bad, close to the studio version and I understand why they move like that, I like it so much and I find this a top 10 song so far.
When I heard it I wasn.t very pleased, but it stuck immediatly and now I love it,I really think its the strongest entry i've heard till now staging should be upped a notch but her voice is mesmerizing
Check out her other songs like "For your love" and "I'm a fantastic wreck", she's one of Australia's best kept secrets. This song compared to her other stuff is terrible though.
I actually really like the staging. Yes it is a mess, but it is supposed to be, the viewer is supposed to feel that way! I feel this is very raw and artistic Also I love this being one single shot!

Wojciech Duda this girl's voice is much more pure actually. but it doesn't mean that halsey is worse, she is the 'live' queen. maybe she is not gaga but she knows what she has to do
I really like this song and artist. I think there is a lot of light and shade in the way she sings and also in the backing track and that makes it a very interesting song. Her vocals during this performance are really compelling I think, there is something unique about them, there is a good bit of vibrato and her voice is very emotive, I think it is full of natural vulnerability and emotion. People are saying her vocals are off, I don't think so. She has a good varied intonation when she sings except of course in the monotonal sections which emphasise some of the emotion she wants to portray. I don't hear any pitch or tuning issues. Perhaps people are comparing her to main stream studio recorded artists? Perhaps she was a little nervous, a studio audience, televised across the country and the chance to represent Australia in Europe's biggest music competition, I would be soiling my knickers! I love her and I am super glad she is representing Australia and I think we should be so very proud to have her represent!!!!! xxx
I agree. I think the essence of this song is that she is feeling scattered and confused, thats why she is moving sporadically around the stage and almost sounds "nervous". I like it.

The line "And the hardest thing is that I don't want to give it up, I love you, I love you, I love you" is so strong, I feel this so much
Do not worry about Australia's staging people, you know that they will make something spectacular again.
Maybe they did it like Sonic did it. Show something humiliating first to create a hype, and then show something amazing on stage
Well, we've got Dami Im coming back next year to have a shot, and I doubt that she is going to do badly at Australia Decides, so we should have at least something there.
no amount of staging is going to rescue that turkey!
@@4bawbees This is when y'all are wrong. This song, just like Zero Gravity last year, is good and it will come alive with the right staging. It's not like VARADA VARADAaAaA where they could literally throw the kitchen sink at it and it'd still be unpleasant because, ultimately, the song was unpleasant.
I like the song and her voice but I don't like her look and the staging at all!

Don't Break Me
Montaigne
I don't feel the same buzz
When your name comes up on my phone anymore
Feels like I don't feel you
I fear you
And it makes me cry on my floor
It feels like you're taking me for granted
I've given you everything I have, yeah
And I can barely bring to mind
The reason why I've stretched myself so far for
You
Oh, ho, ho, I can't take it anymore
Don't break me
Don't break me down, down, down, down
Don't break me
Are you hearing me now, now, now, now
You thought I was elastic
But maybe I'm just made of glass
Don't break me
Don't break me down
Isn't love a compromise
Two people trying to keep the fire burning
You've been busy playing round and starting fights
While I've been busy earning
Every time that I try to explain it
You think that your pain is more important
And the hardest thing is that I don't wanna give you up
I love you, I love you, I love you
But oh, ho, ho, I can't take it anymore
Don't break me
Don't break me down, down, down, down
Don't break me
Are you hearing me now, now, now, now
You thought I was elastic
But maybe I'm just made of glass
Don't break me
Don't break me down
I lie awake while you're asleep
I listen to the sound
Of all the words I couldn't say 'til now
Don't break me
Don't break me down, down, down, down
Don't break me
Are you hearing me now, now, now
You thought I was elastic
But maybe I'm just made of glass
Don't break me
Don't break me down

The song is pretty amazing but the live performance is a mess. She needs to improve her voice, outfit and the staging overall..
How did dhe win with this voice 😏?

As a European, it makes me sad seeing these comments being so negative towards Australia. The competition is about acceptance and community, I understand they're not European, but neither is Israel and they still win. Even Turkey is 95% in Asia and I see so many comments wanting them to come back. I know they're not a member of the EBU either, but they're our guests and should treat them as such with respect and equality.
Whats good is good, but serius she just cant sing.
The song isnt bad but this is baddest entry from the Aussies yet.
How Eurovision let an apartheid nation even participate? I don't know.
Its the same for Portugal last year, when some people were mad bc San Marino qualifyed for the finals and not Portgual. But weird doesnt equal good, the staging was a mess and the song itself was trash.
Honestly I think a lot of these comments are from Aussies, our culture is very negative
@@SmexiFPS San Marino has nothing to do with it. The staging was good, those camera cuts and the red and roses themed background were nice to see. The song wasn't trash, it's just your vision of the thing. Stop spitting things out like it's straight facts.
So sad she couldn’t sing this in 2021 she would have won wow what an amazing voice and song
To everyone who says the staging is a mess: IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE CHAOTIC. It represents the emotion in the song.

Will Montaigne film a music video for "Don't Break Me"? To me, _official video_ refers to an original plot or story line.
If it does change...
Part of me thinks they are happy with it and want to keep it
It's not the staging I'm worried about. Don't like the song at all.

The staging is...bad. She is so beautiful, but with that look she is just weird (not in a good way). This kind of song should be presented in a completely different way
Why should it be presented in a completely different way? And how would you do it?
@@MrDani275 why - cause if they will not change it, it will be the same thing that happened to Portugal last year (people were loving it, but staging was awful and it didn't make it to the final). What would i do - i would make it more static, so that Montaigne would be able to show her vocals at her best ( back dancers can bring enough dinamism to this entry), i would surely change her look COMPLETELY, and would make the LED animation and camera work more dinamic, soulful (since this song is about breakout) and interesting overall

Well, in that case every singer could excuse poor vocals saying "It just fits my song better". It doesn't work like that. Participants are expected to deliver proper vocals. Way better song than 2021❤
I really like this song and artist.
I like it.
