The hyundai is the only car in it's segment and the only car that i know of apart from Mclaren in the world that is maintaining the warranty for the car even with track use. Awesome stuff

That's make a lot of sense. The buyers will get one of those to thrash it on the track, keep the warranty shows how the brand rely on their work, and shows that is a good product.

I still have my warranty on my Toyota even though I track it. I had a front control arm ball joint go bad, and they fixed it under warranty.

I spent a day driving the i30N around Millbrook a few weeks ago, and it is a very impressive car. The e-diff is fantastic, and gives incredible front end bite in all conditions. The engine sounds good and feels strong, and there's a playful feel to the handling that reminded me of a Peugeot 306 GTI-6. What's more despite a full day of being thrashed to within an inch of their lives, including one car that spent the day being revved to its limiter in neutral by 60 or so people so they could hear the pops and bangs, nothing broke, fell off, or stopped working. The idea that a Hyundai would be mentioned in the same sentence as a Golf GTI would have been laughable a couple of years ago, but this really does do things a GTI can't. Mostly deliver a genuine sense of fun and a level of interaction in the handling that is missing from so many modern cars. It's an absolutely brilliantly set up, thoroughly developed car that deserves to sell as fast as they can build it.

As a MK7 GTI owner I am in awe of Hyundai. The rise in the last 10 years is epic.
Hyundai is really becoming a great manufacturer. They’ve had their time/years to experiment... and are now producing some good cars for good value! I hope their hot hatch continues!

I believe the audio is recorded from outside as the video immediately cuts to the outside shot of the car. I own an i30N and have driven the Golf GTI extensively. They're on par when it comes to sound insulation.

Well, the benchmark was set with the original VW Golf, which is the VW Polo in its modern version. The modern Golf only carries the name, it shares nothing with the original Golf, not even in appearance.

If it's any consolation, I believe we'll be getting the Veloster N here. Should be the same platform and drivetrain as the i30.

And with this, the FWD hot hatch segment is intense.. With the Type R at the very top. Just wish there would be a new MazdaSpeed3 to compete, but the i30N is a monster and the GTI is a performer as to be expected. I'm an AWD snob (drive a 400hp STi hatchback) but for the first time might be willing to make the switch

+Natural BB anybody who knows anything about BMW will know that the M240i is one of the best cars for sale in their range, it was the main reason BMW brought out the M2 competition, because the performance was quite similarly matched. Yes they're not real M cars but they're not claiming to be, just a half way house between the M-Sport BMW's and the full M cars.

This i30n looks likes is gona kick some ass to German hot hatches when fitted with dct, auto gear box 👌
the manual already puts up a good fight because of the rev matching and torque vectoring and slip diff. i work for hyundai as well as own an i30n and you would not believe the amount of tech that goes into this cars gear box and engine. it will even put the turbo into over boost if youre just under the power band and you can hear it whistling way above the engine sound until you get in the power band then the engine takes over. in addition it will increase the rate of flow by the fuel pump too. the clutch is an absolute monster because it is built for reliability too and if you put it in second instead of 4th at 90 mph cause im an idiot sometimes the gear box will cope with it very well and it will slow the fuel pump down starving the engine until youre under 7k revs. all in all it is a serious bit of kit and lot of people dont know it in full.

The Hyundai I30 N is a daily driver built by Biermann to be pushed and punished, and that's why Hyundai won't void your warranty if you take it to the track and push it. The GTI is a plush daily driver that will not withstand the punishment. VW now has to up its game, which means better brakes, bushings and suspension upgrades to run with the N.
The i30 N is an amazing car. Genuinely would love one!
I do wonder if sporty PHEVs might out-muscle cars like the i30 N in future though - as well as delivering more miles per gallon.
D Brown also if you watched the video you saw that the N was very tale happy while the GTI was planted and stable.
Biermann built that tale happiness into the chasis for what he calls beats per minute (BPM). He did the same thing with the Kia Stinger, which is also his baby.
no need, VW will come out with Golf gti track edition or package... why upset 95% of their existing customers when they only use it as daily driver
I'd prefer it if they put firmer bushing in the GTi driveline. eg. pendulum mount, engine mounts. They axle tramp like crazy even in some daily driving circumstances, especially when it's wet. A tiny bit of extra vibrations shouldn't make the latte crowd buy something else.
Wow, those are some tricky conditions in the rain and it really doesn't test both cars against each other properly.

The VW Golf has been a copy & paste since gen 5. My point is that Hyundai has built a better driver's car than VW, and that is what speaks volume.

No it cannot. it says it can, but it simply does not turn off completely.
The computer still interferes. VW have admitted that them selves.
Neo VeNoM do you have one? Because I do and you can snowdrift all day without any interference. Regular gti = no complete turnoff esp. Clubsport and R = complete turnoff esp possible. You actually have to press the button for it and don't do it in the menu. Else it will turn over to 'esp sport'.
Golfs also have soft dash material lol...which is very useful lol

It is not all about hp..
But price is the same. People buy cars in the same price range....not the same Horsepower Range...
German Big I think when he wrote "235 vs 275" he meant that the GTI lost because the less amount of horsepower. I meant that it did not lose just because of that, especially when it is as wet as it was. Chassi, electronics and brakes need to be taken in to consideration. I was not referring to the price range and I don't know how you based your conclusions on that.
And power to weight isn't so different. These cars aren't really about track times anyway because they REALLY aren't performance track machines at all, or lap time heroes. It doesn't matter if one is slightly faster than another, it matters about the complete package/price and what values buyers prioritize. It seems clear from every review across the world that the i30N is a better drivers car, while the GTi offers slightly less performance and involvement but more luxury qualities (at a higher price too).
The winner is always the one who is to win...

you cant turn it completely off which is because the XDS electronical diff is part of the ESP and yes it flares up when it works which is kinda odd
