The real designers behind the I30N are Jean-Claude Martens and Thomas Bürkle... If you really think all those nice newer Hyubdai's are due to a interior designer from BWM you are wrong
GTI -> Two People. I30n -> Just driver. GTI ~245hp (Performance Pack in EU) , i30n -> 300 hp (they are all rated at 280, but on a dyno most make 300+, my Kona N is rated at 280/290 but they also consistently dyno 300-310hp). So ~50 hp more, one passenger. No way the GTI would win.
Dyno figures are always lower than published ones as they are measuring from the wheels not the crank. There is about a 15% to 20% loss of power between the engine and wheels. Mine before the tune measured 231hp and 291hp after the tune.
Mara 203 KW/ 392 Nm VS 169 KW/350 Nm was really a foregone conclusion.......Golf out numbered in every way clubsport or TCR could have been a better comparison

The car may be good, but it does not have any heritage like the older and much more established brands with hot hatchback history like VW, Ford, Audi, Renault, Honda, Subaru, Peugeot etc. etc. etc. These brands have much more identity, credence, and long, sometimes decades long history compared to some fairly new Korean brand that people don't easily associate with hot performance vehicles. Even if they just may be apparently good.
