So glad RUclips suggested this gem after about 3 years since publication. Dan John you're the Don! Hope Dave is ok.

I'm absolutely guilty of this. I did "bro splits" for years and then, miraculously, when I focused on things like pushups, pullups, deadlifts, and squats, I got stronger and had significantly less joint pain.

Thank you Mr. John! Thanks to youtube, I found your channel soon after I got into kettlebells earlier this year. I have watched so many of your videos, even the ones stretching back to 2015 and you have helped me tremendously. I agree with everything you say in this video. I have had the same mentality for years. So much so that even when I got into kettlebells, I was doing bodybuilding-style split workouts with them. I then changed them up into upper and lower kettlebell days but even that was hard to do because so much of kettlebell workouts involve multiple muscle groups. Now I do kettlebell based full-body workouts three days a week while doing a push, pull, leg split routine in the gym on the other 3 days for some variety.

Regardless of one's genetic weaknesses, most of the body can be developed just great with compound exercises, for the most part. However, there are some muscles which are harder to make grow even in those with normal or good genetics. Quads can be developed just fine by not doing much else than squat variations, even if you are weak and have shit genetics, because the squat is a movement that hits the quads very well and it is relatively easy to get strong at it. On the other hand, if you are torso dominant and have absolutely shit arms genetics, don't expect to build 18 inchers with chinups... same goes for triceps, and in general mostly upper body muscles, especially arms and delts.

For sure. I'm one of those people. Chest and back I can half ass and they grow. Arms I have to hit em hard with curls and extensions. I'm a simple trainer btw but when it comes to shoulders arms and calves, I isolate them. Kind of have to especially for arms.

Thank you Dan for that wonderful advice on financial success. The bit about staying virgin is especially valuable. Contrary to the idea people live with in this flashy world, s3x depletes and weakens the the entire organism immensely, and diffuses the energy which can otherwise be utilized in obtaining true success.
Again I cannot thank you enough for putting out valuable content about not just working out but life. Please continue sharing these with us.
On a different note, through what channels can I ask you questions?

really great video. How would you deal with imbalances? Suppose my left kettlebell military press is much weaker than the right. What would be the best approach to fill the gap between left and right?

The only isolation exercises I would do is the ones for the forearms and the calves. The rest can grown naturally through compound exercises.

Is the virgin thing just for girls or.... what is he implying? Because as a guy, if what he's saying is "stay out of relationships" - then I get that. That's smart. If you're a guy.

I was also doing bro splits for years. Then I got sick of have 2 of my body parts hurting all the time while the rest of my body was loose. I had strength but also had lower back ache. Then decided to go full body and focused on compound movements. I felt way better and still got much stronger.
