Master of Ceremonies - someone who introduces people at an event - in the early days of Hip Hop, it was the hypeman at DJ parties, who threw in some rhymes here and there to get the crowd excited.
@@lightskinvaI was a freshman i. 1990. Don’t sweat the technique did not come out in 87. I’m sorry my brother. I think your memory isn’t serving you correctly. lol Now if you’re talking about I ain’t no joke then yes. That came out in 87.
@collinpeters7584 , thank you. I listened to them all the time growing up. I'm a '70's baby. Some of the best rap and hip hop was from back in that time. When it first came out.
Thank you young man!!! Finally someone acknowledging there culture. I'm 59 years old and that period was magnificent for hip hop. Hip hop has a huge jazz influence f.y.i That song was from the soundtrack Juice the movie starring TuPac. I'm gonna take a guess to say that all the diffrent type of girls was probably because of the studio executives wanting the Rakim to appear more easier to digest for main stream media....I think you catch my drift. Look more polished for mainstream and to dilute there potency.
Does me remind me of their track: Eric B. & Rakim - Juice (Know The Ledge) from the movie Juice soundtrack album. Btw gotta check out Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane! 🔥
Yeah, as others pointed out MC is Master of Ceremonies but it was used as Mic Controller by early hip hop guys. You had the DJ (Eric B. in this case) and the MC/emcee (Rakim) - Disk Jockey (the spinner of the records) and the Mic Controller.
The god💯‼️💜 We use rapper as a derogatory term. It mean pop, not a lyricist. Rapper is to rap-1 element MC is to HIPHOP-The lifestyle in the culture #MasterOfCeremony
Did you notice Wyclef was playing the upright bass in this? Play anything by Rakim or anything by Kool G. Rap, the D.O.C., Big Pun, or anything by B.I.G and you have instant classic channel!!
Listen he has a song called Too the listeners ! Which the flow the word structure and topic solidified him as the best lyricist it’s on his second LP lend it a listen if you’re a listener!
Late 80s/early 90s jazzy beats feel so good. It doesn't get harder than Rakim. It may get louder, nastier, meaner, and have more bass, but it didn't get better.
MC comes from Master of Ceremonies. In the early days of hip hop, you’d have a Disc Jockey that would play the songs and an MC who would get the crowd hyped up for the dancing and partying. The MCs started to rhyme with the rhythm of the music to get the crowd hyped. It became its own art form. Good DJs could mix different songs together. Good MCs could rhyme better.
Paid in full & Follow the Leader are Rakims biggest tracks. You should do those. This was hip hop mainstream pop rap he put out. After listening to those two I think you'll understand why people make the argument that he's the greatest rapper of all time.
