Numbers vary, depending on what you consider authoritarian, but it tends to be estimated that a little over half of the world's population lives in an authoritarian country. China is the second most populous country in the world and is Authoritarian. Russia is 9th most populous, Pakistan is 5th most populous. All are Authoritarian. Mush of Northeast Africa is still authoritarian, and there are a lot of people who live in Africa. Most of the middle east is also not democratic. There are also people who live in countries that are democratic for some, but they are part of an oppressed minority. It isn't rare in the Western world. But the bulk of the population of the world doesn't live in the West.
