My only criticism was that there still was too much focus on the humans. But we're heading in the right direction. Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Ghidora, these are the true stars who deserve sixty-seventy percent of the screen time. There needs to be more visual storytelling with the Kaiju, you don't need to make it quite as cheesy as some of the older movies, but Godzilla has to have personality. He has to be a three-dimensional character. You have to see Mothra being her noble, motherly, sacrificial self if you're going to connect to her and care for her when she does finally give her all. And I think Michael did a good job of making these Titans characters, but in my opinion we didn't get enough of them.
This is a good stepping stone over Godzilla 2014. We might get way more development in future films and we can hope for way more onscreen interactions with the Kaiju's because every scene with them in it was just amazing. KOTM was a great kaiju film. Some people seem to forget that it is a genre itself where the emphasis of the film is monsters duking it out, not human drama. Yeah sure it can be easy to point out that the human conflict of the film was lacking, but that is not KOTM's endgame. I loved watching the buildings just melt away from the radiation as Godzilla marched. What he did to King Ghidorah was brutal! Rodan was awesome for as long as he was in it. I really want to see more of the woolly mammoth titan. That thing was pretty cool! Can I trade in all of the future Star Wars movies for more Godzilla movies? Please? :)
Anyone who actually thinks I’m Godzilla vs Kong, one will actually win and defeat/kill the other is massively naive or just plain stupid. Both animals have huge backing support from a devoted fan base and both animals individually sell well in their own solo movies. Plus the director just said they’re both considered “good”, benevolent monsters to humans. Why would they then fight to the death? Including that post credit scene, this has BvS written all over it. They fight then team up for the true big bad.
jbroti 004 this is what's going to happen a lot of people are complaining about king of monsters end credit scene not tying in with kong vs Godzilla. Well it pretty much could tie in, we could get destroyah that genetically was created from ghidorah's head and in Godzilla vs kong, Godzilla and kong will initially fight each other then team up with each other to fight a common enemy being destroyah or mecha ghidorah
Actually Universal Studios invented the shared cinematic universe with movies like Frankenstein meets the Wolfman and House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula.
My biggest curiosity at the moment is, was Godzilla's underwater temple supposed to represent the Mu Empire? Since that would be yet another tie to the Classic Toho universe. Even if it wasn't originally part of the Godzilla universe, like Mothra, Rodan, Baragon, Gorosaurus and Varan, they all eventually became integrated into the GodzillaVerse. Many of them, including Manda from Atragon, joined in Destroy All Monsters. But, by bringing Manda into the GodzillaVerse in DAM, by extension, they also made the Mu Empire part of the GodzillaVerse.
I like how they kept the lore the same as the original movies but twisted the outcomes. The fact that the way Godzilla was towards the monsters makes perfect since.
Only gripe was that the kaiju moved too fast..... BUT. I understand that slowing down the kaiju footage would have increased the movie's run time dramatically. Should be a Special notation in the Blu-ray for full physical effect.
7:17 no there wasn’t, the end credit sequence for Ghostbusters was the Ghostbusters getting out of the building after defeating Gozer, it ends with the Gkostbusters leaving in cheers and Slimer kinda like screaming and flying towards the camera, the sequence you’re talking I think is the montage of the Ghostbusters when they blew up and became stars and icons for New York, before meeting Walter Peck
Growing up with GODZILLA was our SW before SW came out in 77. Me and my friends at school and the neighborhood would wimp out(geek wasn’t used back then) . GODZILLA and ULTRAMAN was far more entertaining than anything on U.S. television. Spider-Man and Batman were the next best things. The awesome detail that went into the sets to be destroyed by the man in the suit were fantastic and the pyrotechnics were jaw dropping. EIJI TSUBURAYA was a genius and were grateful we were able to experience all of this on U.S. television back in early 70’s. The legendary stop motion animator RAY HARRYHAUSEN hated Godzilla due to the different approach that TSUBURAYA took. His creation of the Godzilla suit and his INCREDIBLE model building skills is what made it all more realistic . The West is know starting to realize how cool giant monster films are, they’ve always been here, 1933’s KINGKONG, Beast from 20,000 fathoms, etc. Now because of the tech it’s extremely exciting to be a GIANT MONSTER FAN , HAVE FUN!!!
I loved the movie alot. But why did he edit the movie so badly. Why didnt he let us enjoy the fights. The back and forth cutting was so worse. I hope he does a directors cut where we can enjoy the fights longer. Thats not only my opinion. The effort he put into the Titans was awesome and the homages to the original godzilla movies was lovely. But for me as lover of Godzilla who grew up with the movies would love to know why he didn't let us enjoy the fights longer. I know he is a zilla maniac like the most of us but why. The only thing I can think of is studio interference.
Now next time don’t have everything be dark and rainy and in smoke and underwater please It was bad enough that he constantly cut away from the action and went with far too many close ups and shakey cam but then he shrouded everything in darkness and obscurity. You also needed more human scale stuff to feel the scale and see it and feel the impact. The Rodan scene was awesome because it accomplished all these things.
Could someone please explain kong vs godzilla? Is it really going to be a fight between the 2? Kong got injured by a propeller in skull island whereas godzilla had a nuke go off in his face and it just made him stronger KotM is an amazing film btw. So much fun
black titan god I hope not. It’d be so convenient and illogical. They’ve said that Kong was still growing in his movie so maybe by the time they fight he would’ve became more durable? Idk
In the original Goji V. Kong, Kong had electrical powers. I believe this will be carried over. All that fur would conduct a lot of static electricity that could be delivered with punches.
How did you not think that was going to happen to begin with!? I mean it's kind of obvious! I dont care to be honest. The movie is going to be insane just like this one was. Minus the script which had some issues the titan stuff was what I was there for and it delivered. The actors were pretty good too. Just a poor script.
@@kristoferramirez1966 I didnt mind the humor. And i get the message. But its execution with the orca and vera Farmigas character arch was just really dumb. I didnt have as big of an issue with the movie as most reviewers and critics have I still immensely enjoyed the movie! And it had alot of amazing moments. But there were things that were executed poorly. So I get why people dont like it. But it was too fun for me not to like.
@@Gab1s16 i think the story was executed well because of the reason why vera did it. It became believable for me. Because i understand what's it like to loose a family member. If i ever lost a family to a terrifying event like that id probably go obsess too looking for answers. She's a grieving mom who wanted answers on why a family died that day. And so she found answers and came to the conclusion that it was all humans fault.and she had the device to kinda communicate or even control the titans. Which unfortunately back fired. Which is if you relate it to today's current events everything she was saying is absolutely true and it has been for decades. And that part i think was brilliant.
I liked the movie for what it was, it wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad either. On track for a $49m opening weekend though according to Deadline which is a complete disaster. It's flopping pretty much everywhere but China. With these numbers and it's huge budget it's not even gonna break even.
At a guess, I'd say they probably won't cross over on the big screen. Since the events of Godzilla 2014 happened only about a year after Trespasser first attacked San Francisco in the prologue of Pacific Rim. Everything that has happened in the MonsterVerse from the point of Godzilla 2014 through next year's Godzilla vs Kong would all be overlapping with the events of Pacific Rim and the lack of any mention of either set of events in the other franchise's films pretty much makes them 100% incompatible. If we're ever going to see the universes cross over, we're probably going to have to hope for it in Comic Book/Graphic Novel format. :)
Loved the film. I even enjoyed some of the goofy moments like when the name "Godzilla" was written on the wall inside the ancient underwater shirine in modern Japanese characters ( ゴジラ )! I didn't take it as a case of the filmmakers involved not paying close enough attention to the detail, but as a little nod of respect to us long time Godzilla fans in Japan. Easily one of my favorite Godzilla films of all time. I'm watching it again very soon.
One thing I will say is that upon second viewing the film was far more enjoyable because I had no preconceived ideas... (which in my mind was better than the film I watched)
I’d like to know why there were so many countdowns in the film? ‘We’re 800m from Ghidorah.. 700.. 500’ ‘He’s gonna blow in 12 minutes.. 6 minutes’ ‘Bomb will blow in 1 minutes... 30 seconds.. 10 seconds’ That annoyed me quite a bit

Rodan was awesome for as long as he was in it. There was more revealed in the trailers than new stuff in the movie. It was still
a great scene with the burning city and battling monsters!
Mothra was cool. She could have been in it more too!
Actually Universal Studios invented the shared cinematic universe with movies like Frankenstein meets the Wolfman and House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula.
the movie was friggin INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2014 was a very disappointing movie for me, KoTM was just about everything I wanted in a Godzilla movie!
Wow, Tywin Lannister will drag Ghidorah's head back to Kingslanding for regeneration. Lol.
MY NEW FAVORITE DIRECTOR!
This was awesome. Thanks!
Poor Kong doesn’t stand a chance against Godzilla. Kong is a huge underdog.
Kong will have to rely on his high intelligence and athleticism and speed. But who knows,he might pull a batman of godzilla
Armor
which worries me that Kong might win because of the overused and predictable underdog syndrome
@@joshuam.6027 I too am worried, but not so much now knowing that this dude is a Godzilla fanboy. He won't do Zilly dirty.
They could give kong his electric ability attack as some kind of power to fight against godzilla's atomic breath like we saw in the old movie
I'm really crushing on Haleigh.
The monster scenes in G.K.O.T.M. were awesome.
Terrific interview.
Please do that post credits scene for Godzilla vs. Kong. Such a cool idea. Like she said, I'm gonna pretend that scene exists
I like how they kept the lore the same as the original movies but twisted the outcomes. The fact that the way Godzilla was towards the monsters makes perfect since.
Great movie ! We need space monsters versus earth monsters !
I love the movie
Well, there you go. Godzilla and Kong fight and then unite to fight a common foe - a hybrid mecha Ghidorah.
Thats a very batman v superman plot.
Haleigh is just so cool man!
And this movie was mad monster fun!
Now next time don’t have everything be dark and rainy and in smoke and underwater please
It was bad enough that he constantly cut away from the action and went with far too many close ups and shakey cam but then he shrouded everything in darkness and obscurity. You also needed more human scale stuff to feel the scale and see it and feel the impact. The Rodan scene was awesome because it accomplished all these things.
This is my FAV movie EVER!
Could someone please explain kong vs godzilla? Is it really going to be a fight between the 2? Kong got injured by a propeller in skull island whereas godzilla had a nuke go off in his face and it just made him stronger
KotM is an amazing film btw. So much fun
they will probably give kong a sort of upgrade, maybe some kind of "electric powers" to balance things a little.
black titan god I hope not.
Chop's Arcade but Gidorah had electric too no? And Godzilla destroyed him
@@AshMcFarlane Ghidorah has gravity beams, not electricity.
People forget that Universal’s monsters pioneered a shared universe...
Love the singing mothra twins idea and I hope they do a mecha ghedora
That Mothra tastiness that would have been an awesome post credit scene. 😭😭😭
His new buddy also trashed his apartment
So then Godzilla vs Kong is gonna have a Martha moment to take on whatever Tywin Lannister is doing?
Oh boy he will pull a lex luthor on them isnt he? Awaking something evil. Then after the fight godzilla abd kong will have to team up I knew it
How did you not think that was going to happen to begin with!? I mean it's kind of obvious! I dont care to be honest. The movie is going to be insane just like this one was. Minus the script which had some issues the titan stuff was what I was there for and it delivered. The actors were pretty good too. Just a poor script.
@@Gab1s16 the only bad thing about the script was its humor. The story i thought was brilliant. It has a powerful message about nature preservation.
When will pacific rim robots cross into the Godzilla universe?
This movie was terrific
One thing I will say is that upon second viewing the film was far more enjoyable because I had no preconceived ideas... (which in my mind was better than the film I watched)
I don't get it. Why didn't they pay off the twins?
There was no: Let them FIGHT moment =(
My only criticism is that they cut back and forth and didn't let us see them fight like Sarasawa says in godzilla 2014
Thank you
How did King Ghidorah originally get trapped in the ice? I wish there were discussion about that?
It's a giant mystery. Apparently Godzilla & Mothra fought Ghidorah in the ancient past. At some point they made over there, and Ghidorah got trapped
F**k!
Now I gotta go watch the movie 8 more times
Same lol
I’d like to know why there were so many countdowns in the film?
‘We’re 800m from Ghidorah.. 700.. 500’
‘He’s gonna blow in 12 minutes.. 6 minutes’
‘Bomb will blow in 1 minutes... 30 seconds.. 10 seconds’
That annoyed me quite a bit
Its such a fucking shame that the monsterverse is over after GVK
ALL the monsters!
Birth of Bagan in the end credits?
Id say its the birth of mecha king ghidorah
Or Destroyah possibly
