      A proper description would be, one of the most well respected and talented death metal acts of all time who honor the classic style of pure swedish death metal. If it isn't for you, that is dandy, but calling it horrible shows how much you really understand about music :)

    • @JustinEDrums
      @JustinEDrums 6 лет назад +1

      Well, they sound fantastic to me, and I listen to anything from Miles Davis, to Origin, to Earth Wind and Fire. I appreciate everything, and believe true music fans can find something to appreciate in any form of music. So when you state that a group or an artist are horrible, I have no respect for your input :)

    • @JustinEDrums
      @JustinEDrums 6 лет назад

      Any artist or group that commands a following of any kind, has something of value to offer, even if it is simply input on the current state of the music industry, or the quality of music in general. You know, you can appreciate something even if you don't enjoy listening to it, right? It's fine if you don't get any inspiration from any other genre of music other than killer 90's true death metal, that's on you dude. I said I APPRECIATE all forms of music, I didn't say I LIKE every genre of music. But is it worth listening to absolutely everything you can and getting inspiration from a ton of different outlets? Yeah, it is for me.

    • @JustinEDrums
      @JustinEDrums 6 лет назад

      Again, if you state that any form of music "sucks" or "is horrible", it let's me know how much you really appreciate music. It is simply a form of communication and creativity that can be expressed in countless forms/genres. I absolutely cannot stand BOTDF, or ICP, but I don't say they suck. They obviously did something to appeal to millions of people so...Sometimes the quality of the music isn't as valuable as discovering why those artists have such a cult following and it's catching on so hard. Get it? Hence why I can appreciate something, while simultaneously despising the music.

    Opeth's albums are amazing. Their songs are good but when you listen to a whole album its a completely different experience. Btw I would love to know what you think about their new album, its pretty different from their other stuff but I think its a nice new breath of fresh hair.

    Listening to Opeth is like floating down a relaxing river, only to be suddenly and viciously assaulted by a dozen alligators while a Category 5 hurricane rolls through.
    So, basically, it's like living in Florida.
    Also, it's funny that your mental image of the vocalist is a massive knight from Dark Souls, because I was doing my first playthrough of Demon's Souls when I first got into Opeth, so I've always associated them with that game, especially this album.

      Kryto Derp: Maybe you were familiar with death metal and progressive metal back then, but most people who listen to Opeth for the first time come from the more mainstream metal, because Opeth is pretty big and famous. Opeth barely uses repetition, hooks, simple melodies, it's pretty much to take in in the first listenings. You just saw the reaction of the right guy in the video haha, don't pretend you looked the same when you listened to death/prog for the first time. :D

    Hello Simon from Whatculture. I would like to suggest Opeth - Face in the Snow. 4 minutes long, underrated and overlooked track that didn't even make the album it was a bonus for. This song and Hessian peel are my favorite opeth songs and watershed is my favorite opeth album Wich to me is the culmination of everything they did to that point the best they had in that genre they practically conquered. And why it the last time we hear this opeth .. perfect death prog songs in they're style. Best blend of death prog out of all their previous and timeless production..
    New prog rock opethis amazing also to me but I don't separate them like most people do. Opeth is just amazing... I have to see em live b4 they retire

    The weird structure on Watershed actually makes way more sense if you're familiar with the seamlessness of some of their older records, i.e. Still Life or BWP. I think they were intentionally going for uncomfortably sharp contrast on this record and it gives it a very schizophrenic, ambient feel.
    I think Ghost of Perdition, Bleak or The Moor is probably "full Opeth" but a bit more accessible. Harlequin Forest is probably the best intro.
    Also, if it's any consolation, I didn't like this band when I first heard them. Two years later, their music changed my life and made me start pursuing music seriously again.

    Interesting! One thing I'd like to suggest to Simon is that to don't interrupt the flow of the music for Jon, in fact let Jon sit behind the laptop and pause/play whenever he feels like it.
    Simon knows what will happen, but Jon does not know that, and when Simon say something that will distort the pure reaction Jon can provide.
