This video shows how on my vessel we administer chemicals to our boiler safely and with a little humor, the examples shown are Hardness control and Oxygen Scavenger but there are many more! Study and let's find out together!

Just the procedure for adding
You should dose depending on the pH value of the water analysis results. Depending on the pressure system of your boiler you can add alkalinity control to the chemical dosing tank or hot well
Name the hardness control chemical name
For UNITOR we use Hardness Control which is a phosphate solution.

I have a question.. How do you add condensate treatment to the system? I have a boiler system where i had issues with low pH in the hotwell and condensate. But i only dosed AT and OX. I think condensate treatment would help on my problem. How do you determine the dosage? and can i add it to the OX drum?
Thank you dude, and hey the condensate control is applied in the Hotwell(cascade tank by means of an dosing cover on the top I'll try to add a quick clip in the future). Now those inicials that you wrote I'm not sure what they are... Could you explain them to me please?
@@ShrimptoShark Thanks for the reply! On the hotwell we had a hatch.. like a manhole hatch. Is that what you're refering to? AT is AutoTreat, which is a product by wilhelmsen to increase alkalinity and is a softener as well. OX is our oxygen scavenger which is based on DEHA (and not hydrazine!). I can see that you also use products by wilhelmsen (the green chemical drums)
Now I fully understand! And yes dude a Hatch would have been a better word, there were various hatches but one had a metallic screen which is the one we would dose chemicals. Also in my last vessel we had no chemical injection pots, all chemicals were dosed through the Hotwell hahaha
Another thing is that I heard AutoTreat was not being supported anymore due to inefficient boiler water treatment due to it being an all in one chemical.
I'm surprised oxygen scavenger no longer has hydrazine.. I wonder if it had a negative effect on the marine environment.. Although to be honest ships in general are negative.. We just do our best to keep it low.
@@ShrimptoShark Dosing everything through the hotwell? damn.. That sounds shitty :D But i agree on autotreat.. I dont think it works very well also!
I think the main reason is that DEHA is way less poisonous than hydrazine, but has the same effect. Which were also my experience. But sailing with one boiler system is also easier than sailing with aux plus waste heat recovery boilers, haha

For sure bro, it's basically a water heater for the acomodation, it can be heated by steam or electricity however one must always be careful to have water inside or the electric resistors will be damaged.

My hotwell water ph is less than 8 but boiler water ph is 12.. how can i maintain both in range?
We use unitor chemicals
Check the hot well for any oil traces or contaminants (use boiler coagulant to make oil particles rise and be visible in the surface). If you dose directly in the hotwell and no change is observed then check the quality of the distillate being produced from the Evaporators.

Hahaha that's correct on these cruise vessels we are used to calling the fwg, Evaporators. Correct try from the sample point to test to see if it is highly acidic (which it shouldn't be)
