- After a historic quad-state weather system rolled through much of Western Kentucky Friday night, multiple tornadoes left widespread damage and many lives were lost.
The hardest-hit place was in Graves County, where Governor Andy Beshear said that the city of Mayfield had been "devastated."
In Kentucky alone, the tornado traveled 163.6 miles. This more than doubles the previous record of 79 miles set back during the April 3, 1974, known as the Super Outbreak.

My heart is breaking for the victims of this storm. I went through hurricane Florence, lost everything but it was nowhere near this kind of damage.

My heart is hurting for all that are suffering! Having said that? I believe Kentuckians will unite and support one another in this debacle- many folks have survival skills that defy the norm- and most will reach out to their brother and sister - Govt aid comes with conditions- but community, love, freedom and support can come from within-👍💕

The weather service are very good in predicting these tornadoes. We need to start having a serious conversation on building safer homes with tornado shelters.

so far its a preliminary rating ef4 and it be another few weeks or even months till they finish surveying the whole damage path before they can give us the final call on its intensity even though bremen along with few others have shown ef5 damage.
yeah this is no EF4, I know the media has said the NWS has "confirmed" but I see F5! Just look back in 2011 in Jopin, and 2013 in Moore OK ... the damage looks the exact.. if not worse for some locations.

@@angetodac Tornado watches were in effect 2 days ahead, but no one knows where they will hit. You can leave your house and go down the road, but what if the house you go to down the road is the one that gets hit??? Only other thing to do would be to leave the area completely which is unrealistic for most people to travel hundreds of miles away.

Round buildings survive better - as evidence with the silos. It amazes me how we still don't build better, safer buildings or shelters everywhere.

Dome buildings are the best. It also surprises me that we aren't building structures with better designs and materials. Rebuilding these towns isn't going ot matter if the next storm(s) are just going to destroy everything again. We should be building proper houses that protect against these storms.
Its not about your safety.

A tornado is their goldmine. Why would they build better houses and basically fire themselves?

We should be producing and building products and structures that last so we can focus our time, energy, and resources on progressing our species. But it isn't going to matter much longer. With more storms like these becoming common place, insurance companies aren't going to be able to pay out in the end for everyone, and that's going to be dangerous for society.
The silos stood because they were full of grain. If empty they'd be a twisted heap of metal.
I’m trying to arrange for victims to be moved to a safer part of the Country in my State. These images are so heartbreaking and we know these storms will keep coming. Rebuild and they will destroy and kill again. Until we can figure out a way to interfere with the formation of these storms, it will just keep getting worse.

These storms have been happening for a LOOOOOOOONG time.... every once in a while they hit a populated area and make big news....
Best thing to do is have a safe room or storm shelter because no one knows where it will hit.
One thing is for sure, devastation like this as hurtful as it is, humbles people and brings them together, atleast for a short time.

This tornado was stronger than Hurricane Dorian, only Dorian occurred over an island that is used to and built for hurricanes. And they were still devastated.

I use to be homeless, so I understand. I know this much from my own experience, never lose faith in you and never give up.
