I'm a prog metal dude ( king crimson, opeth and even protest the hero) and I 120% agree. Contious or not I truly believe prog metal wouldn't exist like it does these days without thin lizzy
Just the best rock ever. Everything is exciting about this band - The characters, the forward drive of the beat, the lyrics, the image. Everything!!!! I love Thin Lizzy!!!
Yup, Brian is an amazing drummer. Often overlooked, because he was never a big showoff, and always knew how to play the right drums FOR THE SONG. A rare treat of a classy drummer. Also, he never really got down with heroin, so he just stayed super tight all those years. Just a brilliant drummer in an absolutely amazing rockband. It is magic that they happened to find each other. As with Gorham as well, american boy at the right place and the right time. That's how history gets made, I guess.
@@TheHumbuckerboyAgreed mate, early 70s they were up against some massive rock bands..Zep DP Sabbath etc.. Seeing them '81 at the Hammersmith has been in my top 3 all time gigs for 45 years..and I saw Zep at Knebworth 79!
Thin Lizzy the best rocking band that ever existed on this planet, They had a Bad Bad Reputation, they played live and dangerous all the time. Those Lizzy boys lead my young 6 brothers and me astray in our youthful years, we traveled all over the place and from town to town and never miss a gig even if meant we had robbed the local bank to get money to buy out tickets or we had to bluff our ways into the gigs, We never regretted a single moment. Yes the very best rocking band that ever existed. Man I miss Thin Lizzy and Phil the Rocker
Kris Sisu Lynott is criminally umderrated, however, I wonder if he learned to play from Lemmy (or maybe Lemmy learned from Lynott) as their way of playing is somewhat similar, you could say Lynott had no distortion in his sound whatsoever...
I'm now 75 years of age and lived through the sixties musical revolution where we were spoilt for choice, Thin Lizzy however is/was my favourite band of all time. The line up in this video is/was also my favourite line up.
This is what a rock and roll band should look like!! Phil was one of the best frontmen EVER!!! Twin Les Pauls and a killer drummer to boot. I miss this music. Thank god for LP’s and RUclips.

What a Bad Ass band I just love these guy it’s a crime that they aren’t in The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame instead they’re too busy inducting no talent acts. RIP Phil you are truly missed

Wow, wow, wow, with this line-up Thin Lizzy were surely one of the greatest rock bands ever!!! Brian absolutely killing the drumming and all three 'front men' at their best. Can't play this enough times...
Justin Dittburner Brian downy, I could never understand why ppl never raved about this guy.I think ppl are just dumb with no taste and just take whatever is shoved down their throats and think that's all there is.
I saw this lineup and they set the bar so high when they opened for Queen, that Queen as great as they were had no prayer. Lizzy blew the roof off of the Sportatorium that night in 77. The best live show I ever witnessed, and I've seen all the greats of the 70's!
Queen got so much praise. In my opinion they were kinda overrated. their 2 albums are hard rock after that they became mainstream rock pop. I have listened to Thin Lizzy Jailbreak , Bad reputation, Live and dangerous and Thunder and Lightning. I believe you they blew off Queen
I love that defenders of the faith priest album cover u got..that was one sick album.. thin lizzy have some killer tunes..I remember lynot sang with gary moore on his Garrys solo track out in the fields.. great song as well!
Such a cool band, we were floored when Phil died. He was such a cool musician and guy...and Scott Gorham....absolute legend on the guitar...the term 'Guitar God was probably invented for him. Sure looked and sounded it!
Lynott was one of us... outcasts, outsiders, people who don't have a clue where they belong.. but found happiness with Thin Lizzy's Music! I know because I was one of these people I mentioned above back in the day when I was an adolescent. R.I.P. Phil Lynott.. gone but not forgotten!
Just watched the Phil lynott documentary on BBC 2..... what a badass he was... Tragic end to his life... I just loved the twinkle in his eye... It spoke volumes..... This track is one of the best rock songs of all time.... Still gives me shivers
I'm 52 and remember being at a roller skating rink in 1976 when I was 8, and hearing Jail Break for the first time, and remember, even that young, at how Phil's voice was awesome and totally unique.
I personally think that Thin Lizzy is criminally underrated. The amount of bands they have inspired is incredible and they barely get the recognition they deserve
Lizzy was totally unique and had a sound no one else had. Recognisable in an instant. I love this band so much. Keep on Rocking Philo wherever you may be.
It is unimaginable that Thin Lizzy is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.True Injustice.
Why would you care about some first world institution?

True! A huge influence on Maiden, and any band wanting to do guitar harmonies properly afterward!
Hey folks' Brian Downey is that band.
Some bands are too badass to be in the hall of lame. Thin Lizzy is one of them
brian downey is one of the most underrated drummers of rock history
Hell yeah. How awesome .
Downey is better than Bonham, Moon, Ringo Star, etc, only Neil Peart or Paice are equiparable to him in the 70's
He really makes it look effortless.
Brian Downey is Just great!
yep...great chops & perfect time/feel...drumming, either u got it or u don't...and downey has it in spades.
I like how half of the song is about a guy with a bad reputation and half of the song is just a jam.
Love this band!

Probably when he dies which is sadly often the case
He already is

Hard to believe that this song came out around 50 years ago!
I spent a fortune listening to this on the juke boxes in the pubs in Sheffield where I used to drink. Great memories.
RIP Phil Lynott (August 20, 1949 - January 4, 1986), aged 36
You will be remembered as a legend.
Such a good song. So underrated.
Thwt drummer is a WEAPON 👍
Definitely
That's some crazy good drumming that even Ian Paice would approve of.
Check out Lizzys tribute to Deep Purple "Funky Junction play a tribute to Deep Purple"
Great comment. Brian and Ian are two of the greatest swing/rock drummers along with Mitch Mitchell who was a member of Jimi’s Experience. 👈
Another superb solo from Scott !
The drum performance is incredible.

Phil Lynott was such a cool cat. He was the epitome of groovy melodic hard rock.

Brian Downeys drumming is insanely good. They were the consummate live band. RIP Phil, never forgotten here in your home town.
Phil will should never be forgotten anywhere! His music will be played over here in the States every day as long as I live
All of them are great but the drummer on this song is out of this world.
The articulation of every drum fill, the harmony-drenched dual guitar hooks… this is next level heavy rock
Lizzy were second to none in the late seventies...
That f***in drummin man.
Phil's bass line is sooooo great. Brian Downey is like a locomotion and Scott's solo is just amazing. Probably the BEST rock group ever.
you didn't mention brian who's a damn good guitarist even though in this tune he doesn't do more then just rhythym
It's just incredible! This is really one of the greatest hard rock songs ever written. And perfect production by Tony Visconti
