I have the same boat: Zodiac 3.4 with plywood floor and inflatable keel. A shade under 10 mph on 3.5 hp is pretty good. I have a 9.9 Mariner which gets me a shade under 20 mph on the flat, but with an enormous weight penalty for loading and unloading the car, etc.

i now have a suzuki 6 becausc of the weight of the 9.9

Have you tried trimming the engine on the pin at the back.. May surprise you even more with an extra 1 to 1.5 mph
That is not bad for a 3.5hp 4 stroke..
