- We are child-free homesteaders stewarding 20 acres in beautiful Wisconsin!
You may know me for posting in-depth gardening, cooking, and preserving tutorials here- but I wanted you to get to know US a little better!
Here’s a look at our week as we transition from winter to spring.
A NOTE:
I originally started specifying “child free” in my “day-in-the-life” videos to be transparent. I never want anyone to feel like they’re not doing enough, especially if they have young kids.
However, what I learned is that there’s a subset of homesteaders out there who often feel left out in this community. The “typical” homesteader has children, maybe even a lot of them. And as people who don’t, our life looks different. It can be hard to relate sometimes, even though we have so many other things in common.
So if you are homesteading WITHOUT kids: welcome! Turns out there’s a bunch of us!
If you are homesteading WITH kids: I think you are amazing! I’m in awe of you!
I love my life, and I love being able to share a different perspective here. Please know I am throwing absolutely zero shade at people with children. I’m always happy for anyone living the life they wanted, no matter what it looks like. 💗

🧄🍁Greetings from Wisconsin! I am a new subscriber. We’re in zone 5a, so probably not too far away.
Watched your garlic and maple syrup videos. Have you started your garlic harvest for this year? Since my garlic came up so early this year I thought we’d have an early harvest. There has been sooooo much rain this summer and can’t get a dry spell and only the first set of leaves have started to dry.
I am amazed at the amount of sap you get from two trees. We tapped one tree this year, (some years we tap two trees) and only get about a quarter of the sap that you get. This seemed like a sporadic on and off sap flow year. I am impressed at your snow covered way to keep your sap frozen. Thank you for sharing that. And I like how you have utilized various type of grills to put over the fire. I think I will look at our local dump to see if I can find grates to recycle. Thank you both for sharing your life on the homestead.
We are still at only one set of leaves dried so not harvesting garlic yet, but soon!
Thank you so much for sharing your busy week with us ❤
Oh hi, Karl! Great video you two. I’m going to have to get meticulous with my apple pruning as we are adding 5 more trees this year. 😬 I did get the orcharding (is that a word? 😁) book and DVD you recommend.
Thanks so much! The dvd especially is so helpful! I bet we’ve watched it 5 times or more.
Simply don't let the Burdock go to seed.
Are the mushrooms difficult to grow?
