I have a lot of sympathy for the veterans of America, but I think the veterans of the Vietnam war are the ones that should have been the most respected. They went to a war unlike anything the american military had experienced before, jungles full of living and moving shapes, guerrilla soilders taking out their brothers and friends, getting captured and tortured to the bone with no remorse from the enemy, getting rescued by their friends only to see them sacrifice themselves to help you on the chopper, and looking back to see them get gunned down by the enemy. That war scared the veterans of that horrifying conflict, and the thanks they got was flip offs and hippies calling them "Baby Killers". I can't think of any other war that can be more terrifying, emotional, and scaring than the Vietnam War. I hope that one day, everyone on social media can come together, and appreciate those who fought for what they believed in instead of being hypocritical and narcissistic to eachother.
Nether the North Vietnamese or the Vietcong, or their auxiliary's in Cambodia and Laos EVER signed the Geneva conventions. SO....if you fell into their hands...you could expect a VERY painful death.
You should see the Korean War, they're usually ignored and the war destroyed the entire peninsula for what many thought accomplished little and had a higher death toll all around. MacArthur threw hundreds of thousands into a meat grinder and nearly lost the war and, for the most part, the public actually supported him and ignored the people he threw away in his blunders.
>unlike anything the american military had experienced before Did you ever here of the Pacific campaign during WW2? What about the campaing in Burma during the same war? The only real problem was US civilian politicians trying to dictate how the war was to be fought against an enemy that didn't "play by the rules". @@cstgraphpads2091WHAT?It was the opposite, after the great victory in the "Line Backer 2" opperation,In Paris, the North Vietnamese refused to change the terms they had agreed to in the October 1972 agreement. When South Vietnam's President Nguyen Van Thieu objected to the terms, Nixon threatened to depose him like Ngo Dinh Diem.[112] In January 1973, the U.S. signed the agreement as the Paris Peace Accords. The main effect of the accord was to usher the United States out of the war.[113] Journalist Bob Woodward later wrote that Richard Nixon thought, prior to Operation Linebacker II, that previous bombing campaigns against North Vietnam had achieved "zilch". Woodward wrote that in early 1972 Nixon wrote a note to National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger, which said there was "something wrong" with the way the strategy was being carried out. Other notes, written at the same time, show that Nixon was frustrated with the resistance of the North Vietnamese and wanted to punish them, in an effort to "go for broke".[114] John Negroponte, in the 2017 documentary The Vietnam War, was disdainful of the attack's value, stating "[w]e bombed them into accepting our concessions
