    Your like a Mama Bear getting the Family ready to hibernate for the Winter. All the prayers, thoughts, organizing, prep are apparent to the importance of Motherhood. Thank you God for our Alaskan Family Harvest. All the work of your Families Hands. Mother's Truly are the Heart of the Home.
    One of my fondest memories growing up was the big Golden Dinner Bells that was wrung before meals or Family announcements to gather us 14 Children to the Dining Room Table. When my Sweet Mother died, my oldest Brother who is a Catholic Priest, rang the dinner bell one last time, we all gathered at the casket to say Farewell. We buried the bell with Mom. We all thought when that day arrives Mom will be ringing the Bell so we can be together again. Mom's are LOVE

    • @ThisAlaskaLife
      @ThisAlaskaLife  2 года назад +1

      Black bear is edible as well as some brown bears. It really just depends on what they have been eating. This bear was right out of hibernation and had nothing in its stomach. If you shoot a bear that has been eating rotting salmon it is no good, if it is an alpine bear eating blueberries and plants you are usually fine. You do have to make sure you cook it 100% because of some parasites. Anyways, it is really sweet and we like making it into sausage.

    Your pantry is stunning, I wish we had pantry’s in the UK like you do in the US. After the shortages here in the UK last year we turned one of our cupboards into a pantry. We also got a massive cheat freezer. It’s such a good feeling to have a good stock. I rotate monthly so it all gets used. It also works well as I only have to go food shopping once a month. May l kindly ask what you need to be prepared for? I don't live in the remote US but l did grow up in a fairly isolated area in Australia and we certainly didn't stock pile anything, it's just not what we do here so l was wondering why one would need months and months worth of pantry items (meat l can understand as we always had a whole sheep or whole cow butchered and packed in the freezer but that's just how we got our meat). Hope you don't mind me asking. 🙂

      I was given the long term food storage when my sister moved out of the country. But I do have some resources that can help, I will look into them and share them sometime. I remember as a child when my Dad lost his job for a long time and we were very thankful for the long term food storage and we lived in Texas at the time. Thanks for watching!

      @@ThisAlaskaLife I like to organize and decorate but it’s hard to keep it that way. I also try to do some decluttering on a weekly basis but sometimes life happens. Husband kids 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 and dog 🐶 I wish I can have someone just come to my house and redocorate and reorganize things when the seasons change so it can look nice and fresh. Maybe if you’re in nyc and wanna visit I can pay you to do it because you seem to enjoy it. Do you still go over to peoples houses around to organize and de clutter? Or not yet because of the pandemic? It’s also nice if my son, Julien (12yrs old) and daughter, Kristina (8 years old) enjoy it as much as you and I 😂😂😂😂😂 thanks for going on a tangent because I guess I did that too 🤦🏻‍♀️ thanks for sharing! You don’t even know how much I appreciate you replying back and getting to know your viewers 🥰🥰🥰 thank you so much!

    Hi , love your pantry , I’m so jealous! One little note , after watching loads of canning videos I learnt that it’s best to remove the rings from the jars once they have cooled down after processing…apparently if you leave them on it can conceal a failed seal and you could end up using some food that has not been safely preserved …..I haven’t started canning yet but hopefully will soon.
    Love all your videos with your lovely family, from Becky in Western Australia 🇦🇺

    What a great video Lauren. I wish i had a pantry. Its more convenient to keep track of things. I have 2 questions to ask you. Do you ever get mice in your garage pantry area and what does moose meat taste like ? Does it taste like beef ? I have had venison, caribou , mule deer and elk at one time but not moose. Thanks for sharing and your cat is so nice. Be safe .

    • @ThisAlaskaLife
      @ThisAlaskaLife  2 года назад +3

      Hello Shirley! Glad you enjoyed the tour! We have had a few voles in the garage but thankfully they have never gotten into the food and Mark was able to capture them quickly. We probably need to put the bags into 5 gallon buckets just to be safe. We did have them in the chicken coop eating the chicken food at times! Moose is very similar to deer. Very mild in flavor and almost no fat. It is different from beef because of the lack of fat but it tastes really good! We plan on doing a taste test video this winter with all of our meat.

      When we have the mom store it is in a cabinet on the other side of the garage. With the boys in school we haven't used it as much but it was great for summer. We would grab snacks out of it for hikes and such but then eat out of the refrigerator and fruit bowls when we were home because all those snacks were out of sight. Thanks for watching!

    • @ThisAlaskaLife
      @ThisAlaskaLife  2 года назад +1

      Hi Cindy! We plan on doing a taste testing video sometime this winter but I am happy to answer briefly here too. Moose is my favorite overall, it tastes good and mild, no bad taste if it is processed correctly. My son recently shot a deer that has best meat I have ever eaten, better than beef, but it is small and wouldn’t feed us very long. My least favorite is caribou and sheep because they can be decent but more often they taste gamey. Bear is very sweet and nice if you get it at the right time. Thanks for asking, have a wonderful week!

      Hi Barbara! We can get little voles (like mice) but we have always been able to keep them under control in the garage. We really should probably put the big bags of flour and sugar into 5 gallon buckets to keep them safer, I will put that on my list of things to do this winter! Thank you so much for watching!
