Attack of the claw hammer….love it 🪴
So interesting to see you working on these big trees! You know it's serious when Peter gets the axe out.
That last tree required extreme confidence in your working. Great video
I had to (mostly) give up my bonsai dreams when I moved to salt Lake, I wanted to grow Maples, but it’s getting so hot, 107F, 42C, and so cold, 0-5F, -15C, plus single digit humidity and hot, dry winds. I had a genetic dwarf maple, Chiba I think, in a huge, half whiskey barrel on my cement patio. It really started to suffer, nearly 35% brown dieback in end of summers, (but the dieback always protected the underneath part) so I broke the barrel apart, and a neighbor helped me carve off the sides. I used my one huge Japanese ceramic tub type bonsai pot, it sits way too high, and I wasn’t holding out too much hope for success, and I put it in my cooler backyard under a young apple tree. Shockingly it has not only survived, but thrived. I’d love to repot again to try to continue to lower it in the pot..and start pruning it. It is so, so dense it’s never needed pruning to look like a fantastic tree, with naturally tiny leaves..
I think I was afraid to cut too much, or be this aggressive..this video has really helped me! And probably helped my nice tree!
Morning bonsai breakfast clubbers 😊
🙏Good morning🙏
Haha indeed, love watching Peter on a sunday morning with a cup of coffee
Good Morning All 🌞✨⛵️✨
His channel is so relaxing! The Bob Ross of Bonsai!
A great way to start Sunday morning. 👍🌴☕️🥐
The Axe is back! It's a good day! 😊
what a nice sunday, watching this video and then working on my bonsais! thanks Peter🙏💪
Happy Sunday 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I'm not just being a mad axeman:
P Chan 2023.
😂 love it Peter. Have a great weekend
This man is a true artist. At 6:56 when he started the heavy raking of the roots it scared me a bit. I know if I even tried something like that it would kill the tree. 😱🌲
You must have missed the end where he was literally taking a hammer to the roots ( 56:11 ) 😂 I can think about the roots of one of my trees and it'll die.
Fortunately roots grow back faster than branches. Even if you damage them that way, as long as there are some they’ll grow back
I don't grow bonsai trees (yet), but I like to watch bonsai-videos. :)
the root cutting of the beech group was especially relaxing
Cool. Big trees. I Love your Chanel.
_THANK YOU..._ 🙏 😔 🙏
Dr. Chan, this has been quite an interesting journey. Watching you evaluate the trees at Wisley and finally watching the repotting process
As usual there is so much knowledge in your videos. So much. How you use sphagnum never ceases to amaze me. I wonder what chemical activity is at work in the sphagnum.
It is going to be really amazing to watch the trees as they grow through the years. Just amazing.
🙏😔🙏
Only problem with master Chan's videos is that they make you want to create more bonsai ......ran out of space mayb a video on diy bonsai stands as a suggestion otherwise thanks for all your valuable knowledge master chan ...all the way from south africa🇿🇦
zaffa bonsai is huge
Mak another one! You only live once!!
Forests are quite good. Many bonsai one pot :)
😃 axes 🪓 and hammers 🔨 used by a professional can make beautiful bonsai! Well done Mr Chan 👏 it's been awhile since we've seen you go wildman on these masterpieces!
Now where's my axe?...
Happy to see your new video in my subscription..i love watching your videos

Wise Peter Chan when you have a problem use the axe 🤣🙌🏽
Lovely trees Peter😍
Good morning!☕️ Really enjoyed this video, so many trees, all beautiful, and healthy. Amazing how the roots go round and round! Thanks so much for sharing.👏👏👏👍🙏
Ah, "the famous Peter Chan claw hammer root thinning technique".
That nebari looks insane! Wonderful. 😁
👍👌👌🙂🙂
Hi Peter, thank you for another excellent bonsai video!! I don't have any of those size, of course, I'm just very much a newbie. I want you to know that I love listening to you and that you demystify some of the "rules" that I have heard from some other bonsai teachers. Even tho that is one of ways you help, all of your other teachings are so important. I love that you share with us in a very easy to understand manner that even I can comprehend what you are teaching.
I know that you personally love the large trees, especially maples, and that you sometimes have trouble trimming the tops when you're alone. You should make a sturdy four or six wheel tabletop that is six to eight inches (or more) lower than your permanent exterior tabletops. You could even make some of the wheels lockable in place. I think you would find lots of uses for such a sturdy cart, especially when you go to work on your lovely, large trees!!
Lots of love, Peter. God bless your upcoming week!!
I’m watching these videos, it’s getting close to “Christmas tree” season and I think I’ll pick up some living Christmas trees this year to make into bonsai
Thanks so much for the Lessons on repotting your large Bonsai Trees . Peter the Last Pine Bonsai Tree will you Restyle this Pine Bonsai Tree? Looks like it could be Lower More? What Do you think Peter?
Literati styles can be very tall.
I like the axe part haha only peter shows how to handle it
Love the big beach Peter. That modification of the front view was absurely gorgeous in my eyes, I know each of us,has our own concept of beauty.
It seemed that removing the crooked leader and reversing the front did not reduce the height very greatly and yet enhanced the taper.
You are a true Master at work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Peter, with the trees being so badly root bound, why did you not use your Reciprocating Saw you bought to take the majority of the roots off and then fine rake out? As you say "work smart not hard"?
Thanks Team - some wonderful trees there.
Thank you for showing all six trees!
Thanks for sharing Peter 🙏🌳 amazing tree's..
Here we add "Peter Chan's surface moss trick" to our bonsai notes.
I have that circular mica pot with a muscadine growing in it. I have not hit it with a rubber mallet yet. ⚒️
The beech is absolutely beautiful.
Once again you presented us with a master lesson !
Thank you so much for sharing your Bonsai experiences.
Ammmmmazing
Always appreciate your videos
I love watching Peter. Makes it look so easy and he's so fast. Scary spider at 1.06:19 made me jump as Peter talked about the larger size Mica pot 😅
lmao good eyes
@@shirayasha only when it comes to spiders, eight hairy legs and fangs. The stuff of nightmares.
Hammer time 🔨🔨🔨👍🏼 thankfully you dit not do that to my Juniper at Lodder Peter 🤓
I didn't have a hammer with me. Nice meeting you last week.
@@peterchan3100 thank you Peter meeting you was one of the best things! Also thanks for signing my Felco 2 and your original Masterclass book! I enjoy watching the “mr Chan flavour Juniper” in the garden 🪴 👍🏼
Thanks for video. I am learning so much from you.😊
I think the forest planting gets more subject to dieback as well as the species tendency is the pot geometry in relation to the soil shape..when the fine roots invade the top moss creating a mound, it’s great when moist, but it’s more prone (the mounded part) to rapid drying, more wet/dry cycles. Perhaps a marginally deeper pot could help with that, and encouraging a flatter “Forest floor”..
beautiful large bonsai 🙏
Namaste
Amazing. Ty
Did you replace the trees that you worked on with something else or will these go back to Wisley? A great video Peter, nice to see your colleagues involved.
We change trees regularly.
Thank you
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 thanks Peter
👍👍👌👌🙂🙂
Peter, What I keep wondering is when trying to loosen up a root ball why not use water from a nozzle, even high pressure water ?
Ive learned alot
1:04:04 I want this on a shirt
Sir can we cut by saw not teasing the root
Thanks Peter, enjoying your bonsai’s journey. “Large bonsai”. I have a two peach trees, at least 15 years old and about 1.5 metres tall and metre wide. Currently on the ground. Is it possible to make a bonsai out of them? They’re healthy and doing ok. Don’t know if they are “dwarfs”??? How do I go about it? Would appreciate your advice. 🙏🙏🙏🐝
Does anyone use hand grafted weeping p... Willows for bonsai ?
Hello, I would like to know when did you do this repotting? What month?
Hello, anyone knows where I can buy 100 Precent genuine seeds of Chinese juniper and other trees. Thanks
Saludos desde 🇪🇸
Is mycorrhizae ever used on roots?
Hi was wondering why the pine has not much miseam
Peter, what do you do if, when transplanting a tree, you find that some part of the roots has putrid, do you treat the roots with some kind of product?
Cut the rotten bits out and hope for the best.
❤
Peter, this winter was very mild. I brought lots of 3-4 foot tall willow cuttings into the house & placed them into really large plastic jugs of water. They leafed out, rooted. I used leftover wire to learn wiring, shaping from when my new garage was built & the electrician left different length pcs all over the place. I love the way they looked. Especially the copper wire that had been stripped already. I'll try it on maples, forsythia etc come June after last frost. Can you please tell me, if I used sand in larger pots would the roots stay better & not become so hard packed? Perhaps manure tea would have to be used occasionally since less nutrients would be in sand than your soil mixes. I want to do human high mixed forest bonsai containers for a front patio. I'll make the pots as soon as it warms up a bit more so that I can count on it curing properly. Do you ever use tufa pots?
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🌳
Did you see Tracey wince when he styarted wealding that axe?
Morning Mr Chan. What's a good beginner bonsai kit for adults ?
Whatever you do - DONT buy the SEED KITS - They are an absolute con ! Buy ordinary Tree seeds if you want to grow from seed but I Dont recommend growing bonsai from seed if you are a beginner. Buy nursery trees like Mugo pine, Procubems juniper, Larch and so on. A pair of Twig scissors, a root rake, some bonsai wire is a good basic starter kit as far as tools go.
to the bonsai "purists" complaining on forums: have fun doing this with chopsticks!
So shocking it doesn’t kill the tree!
ok, i understand.....February
19:30 I've killed multiple trees by cutting their roots.
Using a axe mmmm 😅😅 ok I won't be doing thar
The worst bonsai video’s I’ve ever watched just hacking into the trees is nonsense.😂😂
🤔
