exact same situation for me. I've always got either 5% or 15% on the sides/rear glass, and have always done 50% on the windshield. That changes to 35% windshield next time.

5% (total, after application to factory stained glass) is okay for the rear and rear sides, but not great at night. 5% is too dark IMO for front sides, especially when combined with something light like 50% or higher on the windshield. Shih feels like all of the light is being directly funneled into your eyes. My fav is 15% rears, 25% front sides, and 50% windshield if I'm gonna do any driving at night. Otherwise, limo rears, 15% front sides, and 35% windshield for a daytime-only car that can make maybe an emergency night trip home. Sunroof no darker than 50% or you ain't seeing anything at night. Also, always at least ceramic, if not IR (which is like ceramic+). If you're worried about cops or can't get a medical exception, 35 front sides, 70 windshield, 25 rears. IR-70 is essentially clear since untinted glass meters at around 75% VLT and tint is rated based on application to clear glass. IR-70 is also the best for application to factory stained glass since that's usually around 15%-25%, and as such, won't change with the effectively clear 70% VLT of IR-70. If you really want the DARKEST tint, though, feel free to apply IR-5 to factory-stained glass. You'll get a legit 1% or less VLT that way.
Was there a lot of difference between the 50% tint on the windshield and 5% tint all around? Like could you tell the windshield was significantly less tinted than the rest of the vehicle? Also, what tint material did you go with?
Super late reply coming from someone with 20 percent..yea I know that's dark... And wanted to go 15 percent at one point... Grad in the daytime no matter how hot it's like huge glasses over the windshield itself🤣 still have my review up when I used to have it in my vehicle. So I recommend it.. honestly no.. unless your 110 percent your only driving during the day and never at night then go ahead... But if you know sometime down the road that well happen then don't do it. Well waste money on getting it applied then cost to remove it and reapply a lightly tint.. want the dark look but not really sacrifice your vision 35 percent.... And like I've said yes what am about to say well be more costly then normal average tint... Want more comfortable experience when driving or when it's traffic and sun is beaming.. get yourself some ceramic tint.. if you dislike the dark look go with 70% ceramic tint.. if you don't even want a haze look at all. But if you want a bit of the haze look removed from other drivers coming towards you get 50.... But 35 percent is perfect... to have the dark look from the outside and pretty clear from the inside.. "ceramic tint" for my area for ceramic 160 for 2 windows. 200 for just the rear. 175 for the windshield up front. Ceramic.. and for normal tint it's 140. And around 200 bucks to get your old tint totally removed.. at first I thought ceramic was more money wasted but it's not honestly.... Don't know where to start?? Big difference you well notice is your whole entire windshield in ceramic darker tint doesn't matter. As long as it's ceramic tint you well be happy. And the rear window. The sides can be 70% if you don't want darker windows at all.... Want a perfect tint set up. 35% all around including the windshield if you want a slightly dark look but still see during the night. And of course ceramic.. hope I helped you guys. From my point of view. If you want the pretty dark look like myself.. 35% windshield. 20% front doors. 5% back and rear. And currently just added 35% in the rear in ceramic.. and well be applying 50% ceramic on the windshield. And in the future have 35% on the doors and that's it. My perfect setup. Privacy day and night. Seen other go as far as 5% all the way around and 20- or 5 over that.. and just keep the windshield stock. Only apply 5% brow. To me that's to much..
Go for it... I had 20% back then loved it. Was dark. But nighttime was a nightmare. 35 is still great. Able to see daytime and night. Because with 50 only get a slight difference of tint. With 35 it's like actual haveing glasses on your windshield. Unable to till other looking right at you. But still able to see daytime and nighttime no problem...
I’m starting to see more tinted windshields around all of a sudden here in Alabama, last week I was in Jacksonville and I saw Trevor Lawrence at the intersection near the stadium, he had his windshield tinted dark but I was still able to see his long face and long hair as he drove by. I think it would be great for the day time but for me would probably be harder to see at night, especially since I live in a more rural area.
@@redciroc1211 yeah lol i just got 5 all aorund and 35 on the windsheild and honetly its fine to me at night, plus its cermaic. 35 is nothing, shoulda got 20, but im also in cali, i dont wanna stand out too much
I prefer 50% Ceramic on my Windshields. I usually suggest that to my customers so they don't end up being to dark for them. Full Windshields are very popular these days. I did mine for the first time like 8 years ago or so. I don't even remember to be honest but every car since then has had a full windshield tinted.
Thanks for video. Car much closer to ground so the lights look brighter on the road at night. I've always wanted to tint windshield because the sun and other vehicles headlights coming head on are really bright. This helps a lot!
Sir this video is awesome n excellent comparison i truly appreciate it. I just did my 2015 Ford escape windshield in 50% and Man. Via ur video 35 would be awesome. Maybe I’m crazy BUT 35 almost looks brighter in the video. Thanks again sir

Reducing Infrared, UV and and heat exposure, diffusing road ragers who can't make eye contact with the driver, preventing junkies from seeing what valuables are in your car, and reducing the brightness of oncoming headlights at night. Really can't see any good reason for tint laws anymore. other than the classic talking point about "ofF1c3r sAfTey" (easily negated by rolling down the windows during a traffic stop)
The real reason there are tint laws is because when you get to a certain percentage, especially double layers, it’s extremely difficult to see at night/in the rain which obviously creates a safety hazard for you and other motorists/pedestrians. Before I got my first car with tint (5% windows/30% windshield) I too thought that tint laws were dumb, but now I completely understand why they exist. I still roll with illegal tint but again, it’s pretty obvious why there are laws restricting how dark you can go
@@natpeterson9735 Tint laws were written with the lowest common denominator of society in mind. Yes grandma who just got out of cataracs surgery may find night driving with limo tint impossible. However if you have 20/20 vision, then you will know that 30% tint on the windshield does not impair vision at night whatsoever.
I say this because I have 20/20 and get by fine at night with a high quality 20% tint on front windows and 30% windshield. Couldn't imagine dropping down to 5% for night driving lol
I think I’m gonna get 50%, I drive at night/early morning a lot and have led headlights so it’ll be fine. Basically just want it to be dark enough so people can’t see who’s in the vehicle but not super dark.
I had 5% over 20%on all my windows except windshield, just had 20% on it full top to bottom. Literally the side windows were impossible to see in through even if you put your face up to the window and covered your eyes with your hands, still couldn’t see in.
I had that on my old truck. Looked cool cus it was impossible to see in even with a flashlight and night, but super dangerous at night worse when it was raining
@@brandonvedella6661 agreed, raining made it harder to see, and i found driving under street lights in residential areas where there are still big dark gaps on the road. in town it was find and in the country i had no issue at night, as your eyes adjust in the pitch black.
I recently had my windshield tinted 35%, I had to go darker to 20% to get the same results he has on his truck. Reason being is I have tan interior. Interior always plays a factor in how dark a tint looks
do yhu think a light grey interior causes tint to look lighter too ? im stuck bc i wanna get 35% all round but idk how much the light grey interior would effect the darkness n shi.
Is the camera on manual? If not, it's adjusting for lighting so it's not really giving an accurate view of looking through the windshield for say, the Truck vs Ford (50 vs 20 or whatever it is).
I got double 20% on my two fronts and 5% all around the back. Plan on getting 35% on the front because you can still see in the car because of the front light comin in. Once I get that tinted I’ll be 100% blacked out 😈
@@JulioLopez-xz5kxnot true im rocking morimoto xb leds, they have a stepped up cutoff, left side is lower for oncoming traffic and right side it highest for reading signs
I've had my windshield tinted on every car I've had, been some 20 years now. Before it would always be 50% as the lightest. Now there are a lot of good quality high heat rejecting 70% and even 90% for those who wants to keep it lowkey. I've always had 50% but the last couple of cars I've used 70% but I am going to be replacing it to 50% again. I wear glasses too and agree that the glare it block makes driving so much more comfortable.
This comment helps so much. I have glasses as well and have been debating 70% or 50%. Decided on 50% windshield and 35% on the rest of the windows so should help alot.
I’m currently at a shop getting 50% on the windshield Xpel. I also wear glasses and do night driving at times along with early morning driving. I hope it works out. I didn’t want to dark and the rest of my suv is 20% not to mention I have tan leather so it would make it lighter

Def the truck has better leds compared to your ford, but the 50% is obviously going to be lighter. Thanks for sharing the comparison. I’m about to tint my windshield on my suv because the recent heat has been unbearable. I may go 50% but as for a tad higher because of night driving I do.
I got my windshield tinted at 15% that shit was dangerous as hell. I kept it through the summer but ripped it out as soon as it started to get dark at 4pm, I want to try again with 35%

I've got 15% all around with the rears having a light factory tint that the 15% went over top of so it's a little darker on the rear windows. I was waiting to do the windshield until i got it repaired. Well I'm getting the windshield done today and this video was very informative. I think I'm going with 35%. Thanks for the info!
Any recommendations for me my cars a 2007 so I have halogen lights that aren't as bright as modern LEDs, would 35% be too dark for night driving in that case? Or what do you think
I’d say so.. fast forward to today I bought a 99 corvette and did 35% on the windshield. It’s DARK AF at night! Like, I would not recommend lol. I only did 35% because I knew I would eventually get some fancy nice LED headlights built for the car and I have. They’re on their way thank Jesus!

Tiint is not an inspected item pa law so they can't fail u for it the only thing they legally have to do is tell u its not legal for the roads and once u leave there its on u I have a medical exempt but still haven't tinted my windshield but am going to remember u take the % u add n times it by the % ur windows r stock thats how u get the real % that it is after u tint them my windshield is 70%stock if I add 70 over it it comes out to 49.2% if I add 86% it registers at 60.2 % and even law enforcement n first responders which in a former first responder law enforcement is exempt but the insurance company's dont tell u even being exempt if u have n accident they don't cover u doesn't matter who u r ur not covered n if u injure somebody because of your view obstruction ur looking at manslaughter cop or no cop I seen it done
I wonder how 5% tint all around and a 50% windshield tint would look 🤔. I currently have a vehicle with 5% tint all around & the sun shade. I will post a video once I get this set up! Anyways, great video!

I've always done 5 all around and 15 front, maybe I just have really good eyesight because even at night I don't have any issues unless I'm on the backroads
Thanks! I live in Florida, and most people have windshield tints. But I didn't know Pennsylvania allowed it? And if not, how do you manage getting inspections? I used to live in South Jersey, and that state doesn't allow people to do almost anything to their cars. Why I moved!

Amazing video! I was conflicted between doing a light 50 or 35 on my RDX. Convinced to pull the trigger on 35 due to the good visibility with LED headlights and fogs. Thank you!
Thanks, man! I’m happy with 35% on the truck. I need to make a new one of these because the VW and Ford have been replaced with a Corvette with 35% windshield and an Audi with 50%.
I just added 50% tint on my front windshield, but for some reason it doesn’t even look like i have tint on it is ir supposed to look like that? I have 5% on my 4 windows doors. And no tint on my back window any recommend?
Might have something to do with no tint on the rear window letting in so much light that you can see through the 50% front pretty easily? I have 2 vehicles right now with 50% and they are both fairly dark and you can only see a hand on the steering wheel through them.
I got 5% all around and 35% windshield for a year or more If you have good eyesight go with it but if you wear glasses go 45-50% windshield When it rains it feels a lot darker at night.
I need to make an update to this video with my current vehicles.. my corvette for one, we didn’t cut any inspection stickers out and it looks really good with 35%.
Well done and well explained. Thanks, John!

Reducing Infrared, UV and and heat exposure,
diffusing road ragers who can't make eye contact with the driver,
preventing junkies from seeing what valuables are in your car, and reducing the brightness of oncoming headlights at night.
Really can't see any good reason for tint laws anymore.
other than the classic talking point about "ofF1c3r sAfTey" (easily negated by rolling down the windows during a traffic stop)
☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼
The real reason there are tint laws is because when you get to a certain percentage, especially double layers, it’s extremely difficult to see at night/in the rain which obviously creates a safety hazard for you and other motorists/pedestrians. Before I got my first car with tint (5% windows/30% windshield) I too thought that tint laws were dumb, but now I completely understand why they exist. I still roll with illegal tint but again, it’s pretty obvious why there are laws restricting how dark you can go
@@natpeterson9735 yup… I generally don’t go too dark because of that. It’s hard enough to see with 20% at night

Yup, 50% is a safe # for a daily that what we have on the fusion. Truck doesn’t come out much so it’s okay being a little darker 😉
Good tip on the cutout for inspection sticker. But does it compromised the longevity of the tint edge from peeling ?
Eh it may not sure. Haven’t kept a vehicle long enough to find out!
I had 5% over 20%on all my windows except windshield, just had 20% on it full top to bottom. Literally the side windows were impossible to see in through even if you put your face up to the window and covered your eyes with your hands, still couldn’t see in.
Damn dude that’s dark!! That’s awesome 🤘🏼
Yeah but you basically have no visibility at night. Let alone night+raining
Yeah I agree. 5% over 20% is true limo. I ran that setup before I got a ticket and took it off. The cop metered it at 0% haha

@@chrissoler7758 If u have a light grey I would do 20%. If you do 35 it will definitely be a light tint. Depending on your preference.
Is the camera on manual? If not, it's adjusting for lighting so it's not really giving an accurate view of looking through the windshield for say, the Truck vs Ford (50 vs 20 or whatever it is).
In Texas this a must 🔥🔥
I think I have 30-20% back n side (not sure bought it like that) but I’m wondering if I should go 30% windshield to give it that 5% ish look

@@irishcole3516 appreciate that. New car reveal will be this week. Car getting tinted next weekend so I hope to have that video out for next week!
@@JohnWargo93 ok Thanks again John for the insight. Will look forward to it
@@JohnWargo93 when u posting that vid? Currently have 15 all around except front windshield and now I wanna do 35 for my front windshield.
Whoever did the cut out for those inspection stickers did a god awful job, I hope you didn’t pay for that 😂 Truck looks good 🤙🏼
Big question I have 35% does you headlight sensor turn on your headlight during the day as well?
They probably turn on more than the average Joes lights but doesn’t bother me none.. I notice them on when they probably don’t need to be. Definitely not all the time though. Sunny summer days they be off for sure.
@@JohnWargo93 I thought it was just me but I realize sunnier days it stays off more often
I’m about to do my windshield tint but don’t know what to do. I have 20% on sides but don’t know if I should do 35 or 50 for the windshield. The price is hefty and don’t wanna mess up and get 50 then it ends up to light. Any advice? I have a few hours or less
Ehhhh that depends really. I normally get all my girlfriends vehicles done at 50% to be safe with the law… I’m not as much worried so I do 35% on my own vehicles. They both look good however 35% just looks so much better!!
What did you end up going with?
this vid was great. I have a 81/2 inch strip on my car, but i wanna get 35 for the full windshield. I also dont know if i should take the strip off if i do bc it might look weird. If you have any idea on what i should do i would appreciate it!
Actually I see a lot of guys run full windshield tint plus a brow up top. Looks good!
@@JohnWargo93 Ight thank you. My strip is 5% so idk how the color difference would look odd but I appreciate u
@@countercupcleaner yeah that’s what everyone does.. a 5% strip along the top. Check out Enthuzst he does the sun strip up top plus full windshield tint on his last 30 or so trucks and it looks great 👍🏼
@@JohnWargo93 bet thank you g💯
This video was so helpful I truly needed this
Happy to be able to help!!
I did double 5% on all windows with 20 on the windshield and don’t regret it
I did 50 on my front, depending on where you live your asking for problems and the color of your interior
so i have 5% tints on the rear half of the car but none on driver and passenger side, what % tints should i go for without being a cop magnet but also getting privacy?
I always think that 20% is a safe bet.
@@JohnWargo93 do you think 12% or 15% is typically dark enough for police to mess with ?
@@alisugar03 can’t think there’s enough difference between 12% and 15% to really matter. It’s still lighter than 5%!!
