      I think black cars with all around limo tints looks terrible. IMO the front driver and passenger sides should have a lighter tint. The different shades of tint from front to back gives the vehicle more style and character. It doesn't make an all black car look like a huge black block on wheels

  • @dexterbentley6336
    @dexterbentley6336 7 лет назад +3657

    Pro-tip: If your tint is too dark according to the law, roll your windows down at least part way so that the police can see inside of the vehicle during a traffic stop, especially at night. The officer will appreciate that and you'll be less likely to get a ticket for your tint. We don't like walking up on a car and having no idea how many occupants are in the vehicle or what they're doing.

    • @Twisted86
      @Twisted86 7 лет назад +389

      Yes. 20% tint lets 20% of the light in, converting from % to normal numbers 20% by dividing it by 100 which is 0.2. Then when you stack 20% ontop of 20%, its only letting 20% of 20% of light get through. You can find the amount of light getting in by multiplying 0.2 by 0.2. Which is 0.04, multiply this by 100 to get a % again and you have 4%. Thats why i find double 5% is so stupid. Its literally 0.05*0.05 = 0.0025% visibility lol. @@ラッセル9728

    There is one HUGE plus for tinted cars. I have 5% on my st and drive in the dark a lot and headlights don’t blind you from the back. I had a big problem with this and it really used to bug me until I got 5%. Disadvantage is that it’s hard to see unlit places and if it’s dark and some dumbass dosen’t have their headlights on there’s no way you can see them. If it’s at that point where its just getting dark and people just don’t turn their headlights on for whatever reason.

    I think another big mention for tint factor is your windshield. The amount of light that comes in from your windshield really affects how visible you are behind X tint type for your other windows. So 20% tint all around on my F150 vs it's big/tall windshield is a lot more visible inside than it is on my Supra, which has a very small windshield at a steep angle/lets far less light into the cabin. Also if you get pulled over and are tinted, its always a good idea to immediately turn on the interior light. It makes it easier to see you and they will be less likely to notice or give you shit about it.

      Getting pulled over for tint is like getting pulled over for an air freshener hanging from your rear view mirror/obstructing windshield; they, for whatever reason, think you're suspicious and that they can find something else to get you a ticket (inspection, registration, drugs, warrant, etc). Plenty of agencies do in fact have ticket quotas- and that increases the likelihood of bullshit traffic stops.

Before the tint men driving by would make sexual motions towards me just for fun. But ever since I tinted them, I have had no issues. No one bothers to stare at me when I pass...because they fucking can't. Although 35% is legal in CT, I do not regret getting 20%. I agree with your logic. I currently have 2020 Ford F350 Dually, and did clear tint windshield - Air 80
      and 30 front, 15 rear and 15 back. I find it very hard to back up at night and changing lanes is much harder during dark. I just ordered 2022 Ford and am going to still do Air 80 for windshield may do 35 all the front and rear.. and for back windshiled - may do 35 , 30 or 25

    I got 15% all around and 35% windshield. Windshield is too dark at night for me, and the sides could be a little lighter, too. 15/45 is the darkest I'd go. At this point, I think I'd prefer 20/60. Windshield has to be 3x the brightness of the sides to look right....
    25/75 would probably be great if I did more night driving. Anything past 30/90 would be meh in daylight. Primarily because 90% is as light as it gets, lol.
    The ceramic part is working good, though!

    • @Drunken_Hamster
      @Drunken_Hamster Год назад

      @@5gun1 No idea. But bare windshield glass is apparently 75% or so, so anything above 70% isn't going to make it any darker since a tint's darkness is supposed to be including the bare clear glass. (If you have a truck with dark back windows, though, you have to factor in the base darkness on top of the tint darkness, and most factory stained glass is around 20%, so 20% on a 20 stain is 5% and 5% on a 20 stain is 1%)
      I have a sample that's 53% in my tint meter case and I held that up to my eye while looking through the side of my car in bright daylight, and I'd say that's about the minimum you need to remove the searing brightness from reflections. Real shit, 50% on the windshield and 20% or 25% sides is going to be the ticket. Not less than 15% on the front sides.
      If it's too dark, upgrade your headlights, but don't just get any shit. Come back to me if you decide you need to and I'll make you some solid recommendations. All the good bulbs are gonna be at least $100 a pair, though.

      Newer vehicles already have a 3% tint in the glass. Florida legal limit is 28. Which would bring the percentage on the glass to 25%, which is legal. You have to allow for the variances in the glass. Interior color, sunroofs also play a major role on how dark the film will look from the outside.

      New Yorker here too and effective January 1st 2017, examination of tinted or shaded windows will be required during motor vehicle inspections. A video about this change is available on RUclips.
      Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark.
      The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light.
      Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window.
      This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides.
      The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.
      Rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window if the vehicle is classified as a
      station wagon
      sedan
      hardtop
      coupe
      hatchback
      convertible
      I drive a truck and plan on tinting the shit out of my rear windshield and rear windows and putting 3M Crystalline 90% on the front windshield and Crystalline 70% on front driver and passenger windows. I also have my own inspection guy who look the other way if i pay the right amount.
      All this law will give an excuse for cops to write more chicken shit tickets for the shitheads in "office" Soon we won't be able to drink out of drinking fountain for more than three seconds or face a fine. This state sucks so bad with its weather and taxes and its chicken shit tickets.

    Nice video! As you said, you'll be fine with having 20% tints or even 5% tints anywhere in the US, except for New York. In NY you can't have less than 70% and it's a part of their annual safety inspection. If you fail, you can't renew your registration and you could receive a fine. I work in law enforcement (not in NY) and I'm not going to stop someone just for tints. I will give a verbal warning for tints if I stop you for something else. If I wanted to I could either write you a ticket or write you a written warning which requires you to remove the tint and get it inspected within 10 days or your registration will be suspended until it's inspected.

    I just HAVE to tell you that I decided (yesterday) to get my MBZ S550 tinted (finally) and made an appointment (for today) with a good reputable installer recommended by my local Mercedes Benz dealer. After I made the appointment, I read lots of reviews and looked at LOTS of RUclips videos, checked local (California) laws etc. on the web. I felt like I would go Llumar Ceramic 35% all around or 35% front and 20% rear, but planned to decide based upon the installer's input. I WISH I had watched YOUR video BEFORE they showed up because I went 35% all around ($500 plus tip) and now feel like it's just not very dark (from the inside at least). The installer said the S550 has “special” glass and would seem more mirror-like (reflective) than other cars (from the outside), so it kind of made me shy away from the darker tints. The job's all done now, and I can barely tell from the inside that it's changed! Your video REALLY shows how much difference there really is between the shades. I would have certainly gone 20% in the rear and maybe even risked 20% all around had I seen your demo first. Live and learn. Anyway, this is a convoluted way to say thanks and great job demo-ing for us newbies (at 60 years old) the real-life differences in shades! Thanks!
