When I started the channel I decided to literally just be myself and not try to put on a show. That was a good choice because I didn't realize how much I would be posting. In the last year I put out over 70 videos and thus year I am super excited about a bunch of new ideas and learning opportunities!
If i could get 6 of these done in a weekend id be thrilled beyond my wildest dreams, and thats pretty much i will have to do in order to get knives made for xmas gifts this year. 6-8 or 9 actually.
Hello. Great lesson. This is the first time I read the subtitles so quickly. And if the handle is glued with a second glue and riveted with brass pins.
Given that you limited yourself to a measly - a MEASLY - three hours, the knife came out great, mate. I’m going to have to add that wood to my goodies wish list, along with the stainless pinstock you suggested for my next knife. I think you’re right, stainless would look better than aluminium against the black micarta. Very neat build, Airin. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. Always appreciate your work, dude 👌🏻
Fun video loved it. Really enjoyed ur fast commentry. U made a nice knife. Doing sheath also was really amazing. I bet forging in 3 hours will be more fun👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Awesome looking knife. Amazing craftsmanship in a 3 hr build. Made me nervous 😓 watching though. Great video. Looking forward to the next one. Have a great week. Davin
Great build and very clean with only giving yourself 3 hours. As a knife maker myself I don't think I would be able to do that. I would make so many mistakes as I try and rush through different aspects of the build. Very fun to watch though. You got skills!
Thanks! I will admit a couple years ago I don't think this would have been possible for myself either! That's probably why I hadn't tried ot yet! Thanks for watching, glad you liked it
Dude, This turned out great! I definitely need to do a 3 hour challenge now. When I first started making knives I made a few Wharncliffe knives like you made in this video, if you look up at the top of my templates on my shop wall you will see them. Looking forward to seeing your 3 hour forged challenge.
C'mon man that's ridiculous! Lol It looks amazing. Nice choice of handle material too. I think that would be an awesome blade shape for EDC. It's like a beautiful utility knife
Yeah man! I had never made a wharncliffe before, it kind of reminds me of a Kiribati shape. It is now razor sharp. I drop it off at the gunshop tomorrow and I will put a $225 tag on it. Probably sell it before I leave the shop
Looked great and really inspiring to see what is possible in that amount of time. I think if I were to try such, the results would be a bit disastrous though. I'm still at the stage with bevel grinding that if I am having a good day, they look ok. If not, I may as well stop until I have a good day. I'm not at a reasonable level of consistency just yet. Do like the scales. I know you'd mentioned in an earlier vid where you pick up some of this wood. Will need to check that out again because the epoxy/burl really popped. Another great job!
A request for another build. I'd really love to see a sword build, in particular the heat treating and temper on a blade that it too long to fit in the tempering oven (my toaster oven). I dont care if stock removal or forged. Just a basic sword build with emphasis on heat treat and grinding tips for a longer blade. I know other vids similar are out, but I think you explain things well and could be of benefit. Something to consider. Thanks!
Wow.. you got some amazing talent (and tools). I just did my very first knife make on my channel and I was just lucky it even came out! haha Using your expertise to see what I need to be like you! Maybe I will see what I can make in 3 hours? Awesome job!
Like the result. There's a downside in making a knife that fast. Buyers are going to start questioning how its possible they need to pay more fore a custom build knife if you can make one in a few hours. :)
I sometimes have customers with the request on being present when their knife is build....but i never allowed it. What i sometimes do is to send a few photo's of the steps it takes building their knife. So they can follow how far into the build i am.
I am completely different! I invite people over as an open door policy, I encourage people to make their own knives I'll even give them the material! I never did this as a business, I do this strictly for pleasure and it's a hobby. I found out when I started making knives that there are no secrets in this craft there's only good teachers and poor teachers. I totally respect you and your viewpoint on making and selling knives. I have never had a person argue the price tag that I attached with a knife after meeting and talking with me. Most every person that's willing to spend three or four hundred dollars on a knife completely understand what goes into making a Custom Knife.
@@Aleeknives Its not that i have secrets i dont want to share...i even have 2 students that come regurarly for a free workshop on how to build knives. I also do this for a hobby. I just dont allow customers in my shop when i am working because it means i need to make the knives when they are present at a certain date and time. Some days i completely have no interest in working at knives at all .....i also do not want them around because they would slow my work down standing in my way and constantly asking what exactly i am doing. I also have no insurance that covers them getting hurt standing near my bench , my grinder , my forge.
Awesome job. I need to do one of these 3 hour challenges forging a blade some time on my channel. It looks like a good time. great job on the whole video. I think i would waist most of my time moving the camera around:)
Funny you mention that because I had a bunch of other knifemakers (keyboard warriors) claim that 3 hours is a ton of time and it would be easy and that they do it all the time. I said cool! But in my head I was thinking, this was insane to get all that done in a short 3 hours including the tempering cycle and also filming the entire process! Your right moving the camera to get all of the appropriate shots actually does take a fair amount of time and strategy! Thanks for watching Tom!
@@Aleeknives When forging. It will be much faster to hot punch and drift holes in tang. and if careful you could heat the whole blade, but edge quench then just let the temper run in like one would do on say, a chisel. but if you got it wrong, it would take more time to do it over. Haha decisions decisions.:) And it would not be fare to do an integral handle. I once did a complete RRspike knife with nothing but a wrench, tongs, Hammer, 2 files, and a stone in 26.3 minutes from cold charcoal forge to shaving sharp with vine filework on the spine When teaching hammer technique at Fort Union Trading Post in ND. but i was younger then!!!! ;)
Man that is awesome! That sounds amazing, I never thought to hot punch the holes! I jave definitely edge quenched and run the temper back and been successful! Maybe I will try this next week!
Could’ve forged out a full 10” blade length Bowie in half the time from that flat stock 🤷🏻♂️✌️(easy) I always forge under three hours so the challenge is met every time 🤔🤩
I could just about forge a basic shape in maybe 3 hours lol, let alone filing etc, newish to it all and everything by hand here so that was impressive and looks good

I was doing that at one time! Then I moved to only working in the shop after the kids were in bed for the night. I got them used to listening to machines, hammer pounding and saws cutting at night for bedtime. My shop is right under their bedrooms. Honestly it has never posed to be a problem!

The peice of stock that I made the mark out of is .47 inch square. The mark is not symmetrical one of the legs of the A hangs down a little lower. It actually takes a fair amount of room to use it!
Thanks for that! I do more tutorial type videos on my channel so mostly my viewers are here for value and not just visual stimulation. I hope you enjoyed the build
