  • I repot a cryptanthus bivittatus. This is a type of terrestrial bromeliad and its care is a bit different than other bromeliad genera. Cryptanthus are also known as Earth Stars since they are star shaped and found terrestrially (near the earth).

Thanks, some of my cacti are starting to flower with the warm weather we have had. But we are about to get a cold snap the next few days 🥶

Thanks for this video. My son bought this plant (Bromeliad Cryptantus Elaine) for me for Mothers Day. It's been 5 months and it's still alive, so I guess that's a good thing. Although I think I have been making so mistakes. I have had mine near Sansi grow lights, thinking that they love bright light. I am finding out now, that it should be filtered indirect light. Maybe that's why my leaves have lost most of it's bright pink color? Also, the soil or substrate needs to be moist. I was letting mine dry out, thinking because of it's hearty leaves. So many mistakes, wow, this is one forgiving plant!

That's right Anita, when the leaves go green this is a sign that the plant could use a bit more light to bring out the pink color. It sounds like you're figuring out this plant quite well. Keep up the good work! I love this plant.
I'm actually editing an updated video on the Crptanthus right now. I'm hoping to upload it in the next week or so. Stay tuned for that. I did mention the leaf color relation to light and soil properties in upcoming video, so hopefully you'll be able to get more info from it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a great week!
