    I live in Singapore, a tropical climate country(always summer) and I have some air plant. I find overnight soaking the tillandsia works very well for me. Just have to make sure the next morning shake off all the excess water, put it under the morning sun with natural breeze for about 2 to 4 hours to dry out the air plants completely before put them back to their original position or container. Then the air plant will look good without any misting for 2 weeks.
    My air plants are distributed into different area in the house. The tillandsia that came from dessert area or showing sign of spike or blush, I will put them at the balcony rack with morning sun and shade. Most of my air plant are in my bedroom. I have to turn on air conditioning to sleep every night because of the hot weather Singapore and pair with a humidifier, cause air conditioning make the air dry which is not good for my sensitive nose. I find that this condition is very good for my air plant(good ventilation and moisture) and they are on my side table next to the east facing window so they get the nice morning sun. Lastly, I have 3 air plant hanging on my bathroom window with shade and west sun. Everytime when I shower I will shower them as well and they will dry out with the natural ventilation and this is the only 3 airplant I do not do overnight soaking.

    everyone online keeps saying 15-20 min soak.....I'll trust the guy who grows them and start soaking mine for 2+ hrs!!! thanks for the info Summer

      I agree with you . Online , RUclips and articles say spray or dunk to soak 15 to 20 minutes . And ... my beauties ended up drying to death .
      Now I soak once every 7 days and mist after 2 days with water around. Now I collect exotic airplants that's fragrant indoor .

    I've gotten all my Bromeliad's from the clearance rack at the big box stores. My friends has a tree company and brings me air plants from trees they cut down. One of the perks of living in FL.

    I live in NY and have MANY of these plants - Mostly Vriesea's since I think they are the most beautiful and don't need sun to look pretty (as opposed to Neoregelia's). I have a real passion for them. Needless to say they all live inside my apt and not outdoors. I ONLY water the center cup until it is just about dry (or rather I don't see water in the cup) and they have been doing beautifully! I will water the "soil" once a month. As far as Tillandsia's it doesn't need to be that complicated. I have dunked them for just a few seconds in which case I wouldn't do it again for a week and have recently switched to misting twice or three times a week since I literally have hundreds and it just took too long. I think the most important thing for ALL plants is to used purified, distilled or rain water... NOT water directly out of the tap. All my plants are thriving and I think that makes the biggest difference.

    Thanks for these fantastic and informative videos!
    Ive grown air plants for over 20 years and I always water them by immersion in a bucket of water. Paul Isley recommends dunking once a week overnight. I often do this for up to 16 hours and this doesn't do any harm. I also add NPK fertiliser at about 1/10 recommended dilution fortnightly in summer.

    Awesome video! Just FYI but if you want to see more variety and more rare Bromeliads and Tillandsia. There will be a World Bromeliad Conference in San Diego this May-June. It will showcase rare plants both for show and sale. The commercial vendors just skim the surface for varieties that will sell. But the dedicated Bromeliad grower and vendors grow them all! Thanks again for the video and keep up the awesome work!!! 👍👍👍

    You asked all of the right questions, thank you! One of my air plant casualties was my xerographica, I had it for two years and out of nowhere it rotted. Still ticked about it. Ill get another one one day. Until then I have about 15+ other air plants to care for more carefully. Another one on my list is a tectorum. They have them at my nursery but they're 30$!

    • @ashleyjlucio96
      @ashleyjlucio96 6 лет назад

      Ariel Christiansen I got a medium size tectorum for $10 at a store in Arlington, Texas. Then I got 2 baby tectorums for 7 bucks online (they sent 2 in case one died)

    • @minicat3640
      @minicat3640 6 лет назад

      ashleyjlucio96 awesome! I have found a tectorum since as well, a HUGE one for 20$ from an Ecuadorian lady. After buying however I figured it must have been wild collected to have gotten so big and clumpy. In my guilt I'm taking extremely good care of it... It turns out there are different subspecies of tectorum as well, who knew? Enjoy your babies!

  • @dawnpleasant2319

    Wow, I knew tillandsia were slow growing but didn't realize how slow. I'm not turning up my nose at the $15 price for the xerographica from now on! Three years is a long time for a grower to wait to make a profit.
