Wasn't that just beautiful!? Home Free can take a great song, put their own magic in it and make it spectacular. Their musicianship is unmatched. Thanks for a great reaction.
I've been able to see Home Free live twice so far this year, & both times they sang Take Me Home Country Roads, & when the boys sing this, the whole venue sings along, it's completely amazing to hear. 🎶❤️🎶
One of the most beautiful songs by John Denver, who also sang it wonderfully. I have heard many performances by different artists. But the one from Home Free is the best for me. It touches me deep in my soul and that is mainly because of Rob's great beautiful voice.
I have yet to see a Home Free song, especially a cover, that is not performed with evident love for the song. You can love the original or other covers, and still feel the TLC of Home Free in their handling.
I grew up listening to John Denver's songs. But I feel Home Free took this one to another level for me. It is one of my favorite covers of this song. I love everything about it. It is a masterpiece. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group hands down.
I grew up listening to John Denver, but this is the best version I've heard of this song! It's in my top 5 Home Free covers. Simply stunning! Thanks Recky. Loved it! 🖤🍟
Hi, Recky! You are one of my favorite reactors/people on RUclips. Just as an FYI. 😊 I live in Virginia, and we go up into W. VA often. It truly is one of the prettiest states in the Union, in my opinion. My favorite time is in the Fall, with all that color in the hills. Great people, too. Genuine. Truly great place to be.
I grew up and live in Kentucky and we used to go through West Virginia all the time to visit family in Virginia. West Virginia's a gorgeous state, for sure! Old joke we used to tell... You know why they call WV "almost Heaven"?? Because it's right next to KY!! Haha All jokes aside, Kentucky truly is beautiful, too. 🏡🐎🍗🏀 I live where there's horse farms now, but I grew up in the foothills of Eastern Ky where it looks a lot more like WV. ❤
Hi Karin! Your message from 9months ago showed up like a christmas tree in darkness!! I super happy to hear that i was and I hope I still is one of your favorites! And thank you so much for joining as a member, it means alot to me!
Boy that is an old one from the 70’s. Met John Denver at a gas station in Aspen. He was filling his own Jeeo and had a sculpture of two dolphins. Funny the things you remember. Also, had a blind date in college to go to the John Denver concert. I saw John Denver in the same venue where Jim Croce played his last concert which I was lucky to see. This was Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches, La.The oldest settlement I the Louisiana Purchase.
The original was awesome! John Denver did an upbeat, feel good, praise of the area! HOME FREE’s version is more a poignant, heartfelt longing to go back home! I adored John Denver as a teenager - but as a woman now in my 60s, I can so relate to this message! Thank you for sharing!
This was incredible~!!💕 Something about this song,,any version, any cover, has always made me cry, ever since i first heard it as a child, around 1974. There's also a reggae version by an old school band called Toots&the Maytals that I absolutely Love~!! And yes,,West Virginia is insanely beautiful,,almost Heaven......
Beautiful song, but I didn't understand it until moved to West Virginia 15 years ago. Love it and for the record, it IS beautiful here❤❤❤ great choice!
Boy those dudes crankitout... Grew up with that tune and though I've never been to WV , those cu country roads all take me back home to Oklahoma ... Great stuff
Hands down my favorite currently performing group. Their harmonies and abilities to use the human voice to make musical sounds normally needing an instrument are always superbly entertaining. I should add that Tim is my favorite of all of the bass profound singers out there now. Jeff Castellucci is a very close second (Voiceplay is the band) Oh, and they have a ton of great covers out there. One of my favorites is a cover of "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. Another where they changed the tempo and made it their own but the performance is incredible.
Not sure when you've done this reaction but it came up in my feed and I had to listen to this song. My family is from very southern WV, I think I was in my 30s before the town I'm from was even listed on any roadmap. Even the post office to this day has issues with addresses if it's coming from out of state, for some of the back roads. I spent the majority of my life in northern Ohio but every weekend, from Easter to usually after Labor Day, we hoped in our car and headed south. During the summers off from school, my sibs & I would take turns spending the week until the rest showed up on the weekends and we'd swap. No matter when it was tho, as soon as we crossed over the Ohio/West Virginia border, we'd start in singing 'Take Me Home' so this song holds some of my favorite memories. I still have the biggest majority of my family in WV but honestly after my grandparents passed away, we didn't go down quite as often but we did still make those trips. My dad's the oldest of 10 kids so after my grandpa died in 1973, my dad felt compelled to head down and take care of my grandma and dad's younger siblings, the youngest being just a year older than my sister who's the oldest of my 7 sibs. I can't hear enough of this song. On a side note, if you haven't heard 'How Great Thou Art' by Home Free. Their rendition is absolutely amazing! There's one section, it starts with the opening of another hymn 'It Is Well' that Adam Chance sings and having never really heard him taking over vocally matches his beat box talent to no end. He has such a beautiful voice and he must be a high tenor with how high his voice is.
john Denver's version was not only faster tempo but did not express the longing for home the way this version does. It is basically the exact same song just sung differently. The arrangement and tempo made the difference that and the talent these guys have.
My only comment is I’ve always loved the word “Shenandoah”, always sounds great in a song. Went camping there (Shenandoah National Park in Virginia) once, have a great Mountain Man pic of young me that doesn’t look like me anymore 🤣
Good reaction! Your face said it all. One thing I like about HF is their clear enunciation of the words. I may be American, but half the time I can't understand the words to songs, but not with HF!
John Denver's version is obviously the classic. Chance's version with Peter Hollens is lovely and has a modern feel. But Home Free's version is still my family's favorite--hands down! Besides the unbelievable harmonies, getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is such a great treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Always loved the original by John Denver, but prefer this one so much. They played the the original version as the last song BEFORE their opening act came on stage during their 2018 European tour and the audience made it a sing-along. We didn't know they had this on the works already. When they did this love during their 2020 European tour we got to sing-along with them on it. There's a video of it from the Gothenburg concert that's awesome! I was in the front row.
The harmonizing is similar to barber shop quartet, hypnotic. Beautiful cover. I remember when John Denver did this originally. Big hit. Very proud and nationalistic. Goosebumps.
Oh Recky - this is one of my favorites of theirs. I have to say I like it better than the original. It’s like a ballad. I heard Home Free took years to get the arrangement just right for this iconic song. I love that everyone takes part and it’s so beautiful. Again, one of my favorites. Other favorites, Helplessly Hoping, Brothers in Arms, Die a Happy Man, What We Ain’t Got, I Can’t Outrun You, Brother (it’s new and so funny too but so good!). Great reaction Recky. Have a good week!🥰😍
I know this won't be a popular comment and while I really like Home Free, and I think the execution of this song was really well done, I think the arrangement was a disservice to the song. Nobody can top John Denver on this song, but lots of people do a good rendition. This one was a crime IMHO.
There’s no comparison between John and Home Free. Both versions are fabulous, but quite different. Reky, my favorite song by Home Free is “When a man Loves a Woman”. Another fabulous version of this song is by Michael Bolton. Both versions are fabulous but quite different. You might also enjoy “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You” also by Michael.
More people in America probably know the words to this song than the National Anthem...... I dunno if that's a researched fact, but I"m telling you from experience. It's like the one song most Americans can always sing. Well at least in fly over country.
Visited my sister earlier this summer in West. Virginia. It is truly one of the United States best hidden secrets. However geographically this song is incorrect. Not the Blue Ridge mountains but the appalation mountains. But I suppose musically this works better.
I grew up playing John Denver albums over and over. I still love his music and his pure voice! That being said, why can't people stop COMPARING covers to originals??? Covers like this are meant to honor the original artist, not take anything away from them or try to outdo them! I love both versions. ❤👍 I'm tickled that Home Free is bringing older artists like JD into the now and letting a younger generation get to discover his music! 🎶
@@leslieoneal4464 I don't do much compare the two..but 9 times out of 10, I find myself disappointed in the cover. I got my introduction to John Denver in the 1st grade. Our music teacher was a "genuine hippie chick." She taught us to sing Country Roads, and tried teaching us some of the guitar

There's city folk and us country folk. This song hits the heart of us country folk. Looks like WV too
