Thanks for your videos. I'm thinking of moving the family to Oregon. Your videos are helping us to make the decision easier. We love crabs and surf fishing. I look forward to meeting you in person sometime soon.
you cant mutilate to the point of not being able to identify sex and size. That is why he is he kept the shell. He is perfectly legal here. Make sure to read the regs completely.
I’m a OTR trucker found you months ago but after crab season, looking forward to this years season will definitely make my way to the Oregon coast to go crabbing as well as clams...CANT WAIT 😬
Nice vid PK... I like the cleaning method. What is the device called you're using to do it with? I'll bet you miss crabbing with your 1st Mate (Len, isn't it?). Been missing these vids since your relocation into enemy territory. LOL
"enemy territory" - lol. I like that, but I won't tell the locals here. In fact.... no I will. Yea, Lynn is still in Oregon. He's too old for me to adopt. The cleaning device is called a Crackn Crab Cleaner. Link here: tealcrab.com/product/crackn-crab-cleaner-gauge/
This video is from august 2018, I had hoped it was more current, perhaps 2019. Was going to subscribe, but I think that I will search for more current RUclips channel for crabbing. Thanks for your posted video's pk.
Just ordered 2 of these pots plus rope, floats and harnesses. I also ordered a Crack’NCrab and told them PK sent me. Can’t wait to go to Coos Bay with my new boat!
Hey PK enjoy watching your channel I've learned quite a bit. I had a question about the polyform buoys you're using in this video. Do you feel that because its round and not the bullet shape of a traditional crab buoy that it creates drag and moves your crab pot in with the incoming and outgoing tides more? Or Does it pretty much stay where you drop them?
I don't think the roundness of the buoy causes too much drag - definitely not enough to drag the pots. The depth of the water would be a bigger factor because deeper water will cause more drag on the rope, while shallow water causes less drag. It's like standing in waste deep creek flowing really fast vs standing in ankle high water with the same water movement.
@@oregonlife I watched your other video on how to setup a crab pot. You used a decoy clip. What knot do you use to attach the decoy clips and also what size are the decoy clips? It looks like you tied a knot and then taped it?
@@oregonlife Thanks for the tip; I'll have to give it a serious look. Heading to the Astoria area next week to check out the razor clam opportunities and get some supplies! Much to my shock, it's cheaper for me to get an annual non-resident shellfish license in Oregon than a resident shellfish license here in Washington!
Over the edge buy a boat, crab traps, fishing poles, and stay away from Portland..... (I lived in Oregon for 20 years and still visit relatives there regularly).
Sup PK, I'm one of your new subs. Love your vids. Keep 'em coming. I typically live in Birch Bay, WA, but am away at the moment. I've done a lot of crabbing in and around Birch Bay, and miss the hell out of it. Back in the 2016 season, we ended up with a total of 40 lbs of cooked, cleaned, and deshelled crab meat over the course of about 6 boating trips. I've got 6 of those type traps I bought used off of commercial fisherman. They work great, and last forever with proper maintenance. Sadly in Birch Bay, at least half of the crabs caught are females, which we have to throw back. It seems nearly all of your were male. Nice catch! Have fun out there, and be safe. Peace! -Trystian
Hey PK or any other Oregonians: does anyone know of any good crabbing spots that are on fixed docks/piers aside from in Newport? I’m in a wheelchair so the ramps to most floating docks are way too steep at low tide. I’m tired of the Newport pier 💁🏻♀️
The one in Waldport is an attached floating dock where the crabbing is good. But there is a small portion, at the top that is a static dock that people crab off of.
Thanks everyone! The only other place I’ve been was Waldport and that was a floating dock so when I went to leave at low tide, I had to have people shove me up the ramp. I probably should have tried the top section.
My friend and I dropped 4 pots near the mouth of the jetty in Florence. We got skunked in 3 hours. This was late September too when it should be good crabbing. Odd year this is.
Me as a baby crab: hey pk yi
Pk yi: hmmmm so close
*throws crab*
Me as a baby crab: WEEEEEE YAS AGAIN! AGAIN! AGAIN!
Poor crabs seeing their friend being torn apart and thrown back in next to them HAHA!
After a 20 year hiatus from fishing I have retired and plan to catch up. My occupation for 36 years got in the way. Not any more
Nice. Go get 'em, and safe journeys.
I really like the underwater footage here. Thanks for the great info.

Good call, Oregon is beautiful and perfect for outdoor lovers. Good luck & tight lines.
In British Columbia, Canada they must be male and 6.5” from point to point to keep.
It's nice to see you taking your father out crabbing :)
I have a Tohatsu 9.8 - I LOVE IT ! Can't wait to see some Calif crab videos
First i love this vd (from marocco)❤
You got me excited about moving to oregon!
Oregon Fish and Wildlife says you can't mutilate the crabs prior to landing. If law enforcement sees you doing this, you're going to be fined.
you cant mutilate to the point of not being able to identify sex and size. That is why he is he kept the shell. He is perfectly legal here. Make sure to read the regs completely.
Woooohooo, from Estacada. Can't wait to meet ya on the water sir! Lines tight!

Thank you for your wisdom
It's crazy how many license, certificates and fees there are if you want to catch and sell

Nice. Good luck and I hope you slay 'em.
I have the exact trap as you yet the crabs can escape. What am doing wrong?
Must be good to get away from Stockton. There are a few crawdads there.

Can't wait to go crabbing this year! Love the vids pk! If you make your way up here to northern OR, make sure you save some crab for me!
Those crab in the cooler saw their buddy come back in pieces! They must have been counting down the minutes until it was their turn.
Hi
I'm going fishing so this video is really helpful
Just measure the fucking thing. What ever money you get , take it!
dope. you just thru out your just maybe's, then set the same trap in the same place. ?
So i dont have a boat and i want to start crab hunting. Can i just put them near rocks?
that was a awsome video
Glad see video here in Seattle,wa
Цікаве відео, все чітко та зрозуміло. Вдалих вам ловів.
Another great video 🦀
That cage is to big for Florida
Always interesting seeing the different traps used
U caught crabs
Loved it ❤️😊♥️
That the old boat ? Or you get a new one
Old boat. This video was taken in August 2018 - I forgot about it until I found it browsing my old videos.

If I’m not mistaken. The go pro app you can see live feed to your go pro that’s how I check my helmet cam when i am driving.
Is that a regulation requirement to clean all the crabs before you dock your boat back on land? Greetings from CA
Use the edge of a 5 gallon bucket to clean the crabs the same way and have a place to throw the discarded parts.
Any reason u chose circular trap over a square one?
Is Brookings oregon any good for crabbing or fishing ??? Planing a trip soon and would like to try it out
Missed your underwater videos. Glad you found some old footage.
I found out that it’s illegal to clean the crab in your boat.
Hello, I like your videos & recipes.

ตัวใหญ่ก็ใช้ไม่ได้เหรอคะ
Do you need a license. 2 crab? 🦀 n this how you make your living or just side $$$ ?
In Oregon you need a shellfish permit to catch crabs. I don't sell the crabs for a living.
How many pots do you take with you on a crabbing trip?
You're allowed 3 pots per person in Oregon
Hey PK didja move back to Oregon already?
No. This video was taken in 2018 before I left Oregon
Will those traps work for blue crabs???
No, the mesh are too big for blues. they will just escape.
เมืองไทยเอาหมดเลย
As a recreational crabber in BC, I can only keep four per day. How many are you allowed in Oregon? Or are you a commercial fisher?
In Oregon, we're allowed 12 male crabs per person. I crab recreationally.
@@oregonlife You are so lucky!

How big's that boat of yours PK?
this one was a 14 footer.
@@oregonlife Thanks! I have a 15 foot Alaskan, so I could use that to drop pots in protected waters! Just what I needed to hear!!
@@alexmacdonald258 that's a nice bay boat. Try Charleston down in coos bay if you get a chance. Better crabbing down there.

Is there a way to get them from shore ?
Yes, there are crabbing piers in every bay in Oregon. You can also try the jetties using a crab hawk or crab snare.
PK Yi Thanks, I plan to move to Gold Beach next year. Any tips ?

not really that much meat ..... kind of a waste to take that many.....typical human behavior....

I know these bays have a fixed dock: Florence, Winchester, Tillamook, Siletz, (Waldport has one too but not sure if it's fixed). Good luck.
The one in Waldport is an attached floating dock where the crabbing is good. But there is a small portion, at the top that is a static dock that people crab off of.
There is also a dock in Garibaldi that you can crab off of, it is pretty accessible.
Florence is probably your best bet. There's a dock with tons of room, and it's about 20-25' deep off of it
Thanks everyone! The only other place I’ve been was Waldport and that was a floating dock so when I went to leave at low tide, I had to have people shove me up the ramp. I probably should have tried the top section.
Just did some crabbing today of south jetty Florence. Not one keeper unfortunately, all were so small. Maybe next month
