I did this ride a few years ago, you do not really need to dress warm for the climb, (it was summer) going back down is fast and you will get cold, there was a lot of snow on both sides the last 1/3 up. I had a vest and arm warmers; it was not enough! Overall and fun ride!
It would be 20 if you started at the waterfront. The actual Ridge road is 18.5 miles and there's mile markers all the way up. (The toll booth is 5 miles up. The tunnels are 9 miles up.) And don't fool yourself, there's sections of 7% grade past the tunnels. ;) Experienced riders can get up there in two or less hours. Novices should expect to take 3 hours. If you go up later in the day (after 5 pm) be sure and pack a jacket because the south side of that mountain loses the sun and can get pretty chilly on the descent. Glad you got a fairly clear day.
@@mark-1234 From the visitor center to the parking lot, it took around 2 hours total. I took a couple real short breaks mainly to change the go pro battery and adjust clothes. I run a compact set up(50-34 and 11-34) and enjoy riding with a higher cadence! My activity for this video: strava.app.link/Vg9qlv3a4hb
Yeah would definitely be awesome with a wider shoulder but at least the roads are quite well paved and cars are also enjoying the views up so they don't tend to be in as much as a rush :P
Did it 4 weeks ago after coming from Tucson’s mount lemon then off to mount baker ,Erie and last was independent pass CO
I have entertained this route. I've ridden Paradise and enjoyed that and have put this on my to-ride list. I appreciate your commentary also.
Thanks for the video! Just rode the hurricane today and it was a fantastic day! I appreciate all the climb videos.
Thanks for the comment! Awesome to hear, I can't wait to climb it again. More videos to come :)

Great advice! Look forward to riding hurricane ridge again
Do you ride with a helmet mirror? I used to bike on hwy 101 and liked having a helmet mirror to see vehicles overtaking.
No but I ride with my bike radar which is super helpful and works quite similarly
Did you ever go out to Obstruction Pt by bike?
Not yet! Seems like a really cool spot though
I only road this once but I loved it.
Definitely worth an annual visit!
Beautiful ride!
For sure! 100% recommend to everyone and anyone to try out :)
You said high cadence. What #?
For this whole Hurricane Ridge, I averaged about a 83 cadence! For flats I try to be at least 90 personally. :)

Thanks for calling that out! I made mention of it in the video, but I'll link the route for only the Hurricane Ridge part as well.
@@BestSideCycling - How long did it take you? Looked like you had a nice, consistent cadence all the way up. Did you do it without stopping?

How was the downhill ride?
Fast and cold even in the summer!
You didn't include the fun part, heading downhill!
Unfortunate that there's not a wider shoulder/bike lane, but I'm glad people share the road.

this video couldn't come at a better time for me!!! great content !! are you planning a ride up to paradise (from ashford ) too ?
Great to hear it. I'm planning to ride up sunrise probably in August! Not sure about paradise but will probably get to it as well
