Wow. Now not sure if this is some sort of clairvoyance. I just poured myself a glass of Ballechin 10 SFTC (2008) and was catching up on your videos when I saw this! Love this stuff. The unique complexity is enthralling. I do have the 2009 sherry cask and the 2010 Oloroso cask as well. The particular one I am drinking now is Bourbon cask matured and has its own charm. In terms of complexity Edradour is possibly the Highlands answer to Springbank. Completely agree with the "funk" notes. I particularly love those in my whisky. Edradour, Craigellachie, Benromach, some Bruidhladdich's and definitely Springbank. Ok, now I have to have a little of each of those that I mentioned. Cheers!
@@Gwhisky Heh, had a lovely sleep last night. Pouring myself a dram of the Port Charlotte OLC tonight. If you have not tasted that, I strongly recommend! 55.1% Oloroso Hogshead finish. Delish!
Sounds great.. One of my all time favs is Lagavulin D.E.... The extra abv sounds great... 500ml ... I can get a liter of lag D.E. for $135us.. I bet I would love it.. Cheers
Pretty different from Laga DE. Both excellent whiskies, but aside from the fact that they're peat + sherry they have very little in common. This one is much more of a beast, I'm sure you'd like it! 🥃
Happy you like it😂. The owner of 昭業said in the group that you surprised him a bit, like coming from nowhere but has huge experience of whisky. I hope you enjoyed it. They have lots of good stuff storing deeply in the warehouse that even the owner forgot.
Yet another to add to the list, you're killing me with these reviews, in a good way. haha Eating cherry pie on a farm is a great visual. You don't even realize you're bringing the whole enjoyment of the experience to the videos as you describe the whisky. Makes things that much more appealing. Nice!
I've nothing to add, Geoff. I have tried this one, and you totally nail it. I mean, what you mention on this bottle are all solid and on point exactly. Great review!
Thanks for watching! My review will be soon enough! 😉 I found Glen Garioch 12 at 小樽煙酒 in 萬華區. 還有一個商店在中山區 金盃洋酒. I'm not sure if they still have it but you can call to check.🥃
thanks Geoff! I had their wine casks which were all pretty good although more experimental than “must have”. This one sounds more like a really solid one to try! Keep up the great work!
I haven't seen the sherry cask matured SFTC Ballechin in Bulgaria. The 12 yo Port and Bordeaux cask expressions are available for ~69 euros. The price have been keeping me away which is kinda odd because 69 euros for 0.5 l bottle of Ballechin SFTC is not so different than ~92 euros for 0.7l IBISCO Edradour :) On the other hand I paid ~60 euros for Loch Gorm 2020 which is significantly less than the price of Ballechin. All in all I haven't scratched Ballechin SFTC from my "to buy" list for good but for the time being it is not placed very high either. Which objectively is not a bad thing. It means that I'm so spoiled for choice that I can afford to be picky :) Cheers!
Hah. It's a good one if you ever get around to it. It's a bit pricey for 500 ml here too, but not over the top. Worth it in my mind. But yeah, we all have our priorities. 🥃
Good review Geoff, enjoyed watching it 👍. Have enjoyed a couple of IB’s of Ballechin from single sherry casks at CS , good stuff. Slàinte Geoff, nice one.
Tasting notes of manure…yummmm! So basically this is a banger of a whisky that tastes like shiite! Just missing those pungent, acrid urine flavours to score a 93! :)
Might pull, the trigger on this one. Alberta has the 12 year old STFC in both the bourbon and the olorosso finish. However, I am still waiting for a delivery to come in for the Glenmo Signet (on sale at $220 CAD + taxes + shipping), the Amrut Naraangi, Arran Sherry cask and a few others. Lately I’m buying quicker than I’m drinking….I guess that’s a good problem?
Nice review Geoff. As much as I want to try this range I've have a problem with 500ml bottles. It just off putting. Considering it's not cheap to begin with. Did you get any sulphur taint?
OMG ! stay where u r . . . dont come home until AFTER u had tried all the choices . . . here, in the "north pole-lite" we aint got barely 1/5th of yr choices . . .
Dirty, funky Edradour / Ballechin! I love it 😏
😉🥃
Just got the 12 yr STFC and 15yr Small batch CS. Super excited
Awesome!!! 🥃
Enjoying the 12 SFTC oloroso. Had me find this review. Scored it 86-89 as I went past shoulder! PX nose becomes much less sweet and complex on palate.
I'm so glad you took my recommendation from the ballechin 10 video. It is my top 5 of all time (fair warning that all my top 5 are heavily peated)
Hah it's a damn good one! 🥃

Will be excited to see your review of Glen Garioch 12, though I can't find it at all in Taipei :(

Did you also tried the Ballechin 12 sftc? I.m wondering if the peat funky fun is still present, having 2 more years in the cask.
I haven't, sadly. 🥃
@@Gwhisky never too late, I guess.🥃
Love a honest revue. I'm half down 2021 Loch Gorm and I've got splinters in my ass ;-)
manure on the palate?
Hah. Yes. Almost as good as the band-aids in my Ardbeg! 😉

Thanks. Not really, but Sulphur isn't usually something that bothers me unless it's pretty extreme. 🥃
