The words that Stephen Foster wrote 150 years ago are timeless - today with Covid-19 and the bitter political divide in our country, the words have as much meaning as they did then. A beautiful version with the concertina.
WONDERFUL..........KEEP THEM TUNES COMING BOB. I WILL BUY YOUR NEW TRIPLE ALBUM OF AMERICAN SONGBOOK COVERS FOR SURE !! YOU DESERVE EVERY PENNY I CAN AFFORD FOR ALL THE JOY AND WISDOM YOU HAVE BROUGHT THE WORLD. YOU HAVE BEEN MY MAIN MAN-- SINCE 1963.. GOD BLESS YOU.
If people do not enjoy this, why do they listen ? Stephen Foster was the first songwriting giant America produced and Bob pays him some homage by performing one of his most straight-forwardly beautiful yet sad songs in a way that so suits it. It makes me proud to be a Bob fan and warms my heart to hear this marvelous rendition.
Stephen Foster wrote these immortal lyrics and melody, published 1854. I believe America never had a better songwriter. Mr. Dylan is not one to miss an entrance, and his realization here is wonderful.
Great song. I've seen Bob three times. He can deliver a song. No two times are the same, nor should they be. He delivers it the way he is feeling at the time. I play guitar and that's the beauty of performing. You do it your way and hope people like it.
Ancient as I am -- having heard and appreciated many fine, fine recordings of this awesome song -- sorry to say to all you musical experts and performance critics - this version by Bob Dylan and Associates - is still far and away my fav -- not only because of the extremely inspiring musicality rendered to our listening ears ---- but also recognizing the affection and warmth which is so rare to find in concerts and yet generously shared in this performance . . . ....
Bob is a walking musical lexicon of Americana and world musical voices sung a long time ago . Maybe yesterday or a century ago . It's in his soul , don't you see , music , poetry , the playwrights and the play wrongs . Enigma and Bob go together . That is his outward persona . As a youth from the sixties struck blindside by Bob Dylan's music to a 72 year old today , I say thank you to Bob Dylan for giving me years and decades of intellectual thoughts played out in all manner of venues and media . Peter behind my Judy .
Totally mystical how he can transform something from 1854. You listen to this and think of so many of the songs he has written in this vein. It sounds like something he wrote the day before the gig and just got some guys to play through it. Can you spell TIMELESS???
Thank you for posting! My wife and I have been re-watching County by Ken Burns. It's amazing to see Bob Dylan singing the Stephen Foster ballad (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_Times_Come_Again_No_More)
on occasions like this you can see he's real greatness it can be frank, the pope, the president ,he's always where a singer should be no bullshit,no show, plain soul music.
You can take all the millions of words written about Dylan and throw them in the trash. Only thing one needs to know is that Dylan loves singing songs. The rest is commentary.
For those of you who don't "get" Dylan singing. Check out ruclips.net/video/93NnaKMDUSo/видео.html He can sing straight as an arrow style when he wants to but we love him singing Dylan style because that's who he is. He's come here in tribute to Townes Van Zandt out of respect, because Bob Dylan's roots are folk and country. Bob Dylan was already a legend when he paid this tribute, he didn't have to do it. Check out the other musicians, they are in awe, as well as the audience who gave him a standing ovation. Every musician who came after Dylan has been influenced by him.
terry campbell I’m not to sure I know for a fact that Marty Stuart is on the mandolin though. I’m sure if you researched the concert “the big six 0” you’d find the rest of the backing band.
If you want to hear this magnificent song as sung by a truly great singer, listen to Hampson's version. Dylan is a bad joke. He lives in a multimillion dollar mansion and sings about Hard Times! A bit ironic, don't ya think?
LMAO, Yeah your insults are really going to drive me up a wall. Now you're going to fault him for his name? I see we have a racist bigot here. You know how many celebrities and musicians who are Jewish and changed their name? I am not even a big Dylan fan but anyone who knows Dylan knows he's anything but fake. You're clearly just jealous that he's the greatest songwriter in history. And into his 78 year still relevant and performing and creating music.
Bruce Hauge No, I'm not a bigot, I just don't like phonies, and Dylan is a fake. Plus, he's can't sing a lick and he can't even write his own tunes. He's written some good lyrics back in the day, but that's it. As a musician, as a singer, he sucks. Listen to Hampson and hear how this great song should be sung. But you're probably too stupid to appreciate great singing anyway. So piss off.
Bob Dylan is the greatest lyricist this century will ever know. Rolling Stone list of songwriters has him in the number one slot for years. If you don't think he has paid his dues you're wrong. He hitched a ride to NYC with a guitar and nothing in his pockets when he was just 18 years old. He slept on the subway in the freezing cold while he would sing the coffee shops in Greenwich Village to try to make a name for himself. He made his own way the hard way and now has a home which he built in Point Dume. He earned that home but definitely knows what hard times are.
Dylan can't sing. Not a little. I respect him for singing this great Foster song, it's one of the greatest songs ever written. But there should a law against Dylan singing. He can barely carry a tune.
Steven Yourke listen to the version on the far cry 5 video game. Preferred that, and it's how I discovered this great song. Been strumming it for 30 minutes now. Regards from the Carromkid.
Ich liebe und verehre Bob Dylan.
Seit frühester Jugend höre ich seine Musik und ich singe seine Lieder heute noch mit Begeisterung.

The great Bob Dylan. Many changes.
Doing justice to a fellow great songwriter
What a beautiful rendition. 3:34 vintage Dylan

Mesmerizing
Best version ever #bobdylan
Yet another example demonstrating that whilst Dylan is emphatically not the greatest technical singer in the world, he is the greatest vocalist
OCTOBER 07.10.2022. QUE COISA MAIS LINDA. ALMOST OVER 58 YErs ago. The feeling us the same. !!!!!
Exquisite. The hymnal version

Big boss. Forever young, May you stay...👍👏👏🇹🇳
Damn, this is a wonderful song. Dylan sings well and plays some surprisingly good guitar (listen to him at 3.14).
Seek God. Fear God. Repent. Put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

Amazing - even better than the album version.

Who is the guitarist to Dylan’s right?

You are right. He is greedy old drunkard - that's what he is.
Dylan didn't write this. But he should have stock to writing. Really not a singer; much as he is a fantastic lyracist.
I love Bob Dylan but find this quite boring. Sorry fans.

thats what you think,
I thought it was just me...he sounds nasal and almost ridiculous...yet...Americans adore him...WHY ????
@@nterrigno1 He can sound terrible at times, agreed, but...otherwise has a way of getting to you in a truly unique way.
He is some kind of Forest Gump. Sing, Bob, sing!
