We moved to El Paso last year from a bright red area in rural northeast Texas. It has been a breath of fresh air so far. Here, we're just one of many interracial couples, and not a sideshow for closeted (and not so closeted) racists.
Another interesting thing is that a portion of El Paso is in TX 23, which is currently represented by a Republican. While our city government is largely progressive, our current mayor and one or two reps that are much more moderate. Perhaps the best thing about El Paso politics is that most El Pasoans do not get inflamed by political differences.
