I don't think Sherlock was lying to Anderson. Its just that Anderson, like most professional and obsessive conspiracy theorists and cynics, just can't accept a truth when its told to him!
That's also how I see it. They leave it ambitious, but Anderson's reaction is just parody of the inevitable fan backlash they got when the episode aired. There was just no way they could have given an explanation that would have satisfied everyone - "everyone's a critic"

Had to watch your reaction for the first theory alone. Especially the snog. (Which definitely wins the award for "Best Snog of 2014 (so far)". Because I was certainly going "OMG" and "HOLY FUCKING SHIT!" myself a lot throughout the episode, (in my head - I was watching with mum at the time, after all), so I had to know how you girls would react. As ever, you did not disappoint. XD
I haven't actualy counted the times I screamed, "WHAT?????" while watching Sherlock but im sure its over 100 times per episode!!
