One of my favorite non European waltzes. Written in 1912 for some reason always makes me think of Walter Lord's A NightTo remember. Melancholy tune to fit the melancholy mood of some of the survivors.
Oh~ my~ God!!!! If you can play every single song of your playlist again with 320K recorded, it would be an extraordinary job of preserving human History and Art.
yes-- THIS is a wonderful thing to say!! i would never have known of nearly all of these (minus a few, of course) how very wonderful it was for us all to FIND this player-site, on youtube! i am forever grateful, it has enriched not only my quest to get back to piano, but-- my spirit, as well -- thank you to the pianist!
Reading Ngaio Marsh's Golden Age mystery "Tied Up in Tinsel" and came across this sentence: "It occurred to her that this was the way [the colonel] had talked to 'thoroughly nice girls' when he was a young ensign fifty years ago, all gay and charming, with the 'Destiny Waltz' swooning away on the bandstand." Naturally, I had to come to RUclips and look it up. So evocative!
+Jordan H. Thank you Jordan. I agree wholeheartedly with you that there is still so much beautiful music in the world, but unfortunately, so much of it has been forgotten. Through this channel, I hope to revive at least a small fraction of this forgotten music. Best Regards.
You are doing a wonderful job reviving all these stunningly beautiful pieces. PLEASE never stop! We ALL love you, appreciate your work and look forward to your videos... your playing and these wonderful melodies now fill my little home.
@@susanmarshall3555 oh my! say, me, too, susan! i put the station on here, almost every night... it makes the house feel so good! :) (i also put on strauss collections, and beethoven) :)
Hello John. I,m an accordionist, and learned to play this about 40 yrs ago by listening to a lovely rendition played by the late Jimmy Shand and his band. It,s a lovely piece of music; well done to your great uncle. Frank in Bristol.
played by you perfectly! i also like this music its wonderful Beautiful music, from the early part of the 20th century i have these waltzes on 78 Gramophone records some are over a 100 years old now and still sound great as the day they were made its great your playing a reminder of an elegant bygone past well done you!
I can imagine the band playing this at the top of the grand staircase as 1st class passengers gather in the 1st class lounge and grand staircase landing, socializing, joking, and completely unaware that the RMS Titanic is slowing flooding and listing forward
+Titanic 1912 (skyrimrules232) Yes. These melancholic waltzes do evoke such an atmosphere, beautiful, yet with a sense of impending doom. I recommend Waldteufel's Love and Springtime (ruclips.net/video/m9uwiJrq-fY/видео.html) which evokes the same mood for me. Best regards.
Just hearing you play this for the first time. Found when searching for sheet music of the period to use in Lauren Gunderson's play SILENT SKY. The two main characters are on the deck of a ship (not the Titanic). The cue in the script is "the band is heard playing music from the salon." I found the score on Petrucci Music website. Thanks for playing it so beautifully.
A friend of mine found the sheet music online and gave it to me. I have been playing this for like 3/4 of a year. It’s hard but beautiful, I am still learning the hole thing for both hands
dear sir, say, someone sent me this from ebay, but, i was not sure how to play part of it, until i heard this... (some little notes) and the bass was different... i think i will email you, and, show it to you... i hope mine will sound as lovely as this way...
I just found very old music sheet with this waltz, but it's by A. Baynes, not S. Baynes... It's sound the same... Btw you have very good piano skills :)
I am an accordionist, and learned to play this 40 yrs ago by listening to it. You will find it on the Internet. The 3 lines of music are in 3 different keys, and the chords are not easy, but you can do it if you really want to, and practice. I did it, and so can you. Good luck Frank in Bristol.
That was beautiful. Love those left hand octaves. Will ask for this later after I work on other music you sent.

This is another waltz I,ve managed to transpose to the accordion, by watching and listening to you. Thank you so much, it s lovely. Frank in Bristol.
The big hit of 1912. I have always loved it, and the more syncopated section seems to suggest the 1920s are not far away.

Wonderful job. Truly a beautiful performance and a showcase that proves that there is still beautiful music in the world. Than You

This was honestly so good that it made me cry. Job amazingly done.
Great to hear this piece of music performed so well. Thankyou because Sydney Baynes was my father's uncle.
This waltz is also immortalized on Piano Roll (Mastertouch D.436 played by Edith & Laurel Pardey). Cheers.

So beautiful, soothing to listen to, thank you
It was a big hit in 1912, so it may have well played on board. It captures its era perfectly with just a hint of ragtime in the second subject.
@@simonjones7727It was played onboard. It is in the WSL songbook.
When are you having it tuned?......
this waltz was very popular in 1912. Play at 1.25 speed for original tempo.
too bad that the popular music of the day is not really even heard of today, this is truly a beautiful piece.

Beautiful! Thank-you. Unfortunately the edits left your camera out of focus, but it doesn't detract from the music.
How do you pedal the measures of the main theme? Do you release at the end of each measure or release after the half note at the rest?
Très belle valse. Bravo!
Marie-Sandra Diamant-Berger Thank you very much Marie-Sandra for all your nice comments. 😊

Thanks for the info sharing. Destiny Waltz is Sydney Baynes's most famous piece.
