it is pretty weird, considering that the wiring does not run inside the cages defined by the shielding paint. well, maybe the aluminium strip connecting all the painted parts helps with that.
All but the absolute *cheapest* pickups have shielded wires, and it only costs a few cents to use shielded guitar wire to connect everything. When used along with your choice of copper or aluminum tape, or conductive paint in your control cavities, the only 60Hz hum you'll get is through the pickups.

I hope I'll see a moment when Ben will said "Yes, this is the most crasy guitar i've build and nothing craziest could be done...". In 10? 20? 50? years... And then, luthiery as job will be over )))) Excellent piece of art.
Dreaming up these guitars is one thing. Building it and doing it so effortlessly and entertainingly never fails to amaze me. Been here since finding you working on a chibson supreme and can’t turn away
Congratulations Ben, this guitar is a triumph and testament to your skill and balls of steel, when it comes to out of the box maverick guitar building.
As of this moment, Brad Angove and Guns and Guitars have yet to post their final videos, but I've watched the others and here's what I think: DiResta: I've been following this guy for years and he does some really incredible stuff, but not this time, he actually did a much better job on an old beater of a guitar a while ago, where he essentially encased the sides in welded sheet metal. Big D: he does some very nice builds and his attention to detail is admirable (see his video resto of a Les Paul, it's stunning) but his creation for this competition is a bit safe Phil McKnight: All I can say about this is it had better sound off the charts, because he's put naff all else into it. Tamar Hannah: Really nice, kinda home-spun (as is her style) but with lots of thought and no small amount of skill. Crimson: Ben, that's some creation there, not really my style, but I can appreciate the artistry of it and you actually did use most of the kit, even if you did cut half of it away (and not in the way 99.9% of everyone else would've cut it!) Texas Toast: Bold, brash and beautifully executed, like pretty much everything else they do. How would I rate them? Tamar's is the one I would like to own as a player, I bet that would weather really nicely over time. Ben's is the one I would like to hang on the wall. The wonderbread boys just edge it for me though, it's so exquisitely off the wall and, as an instrument, it's so loaded with features you could play it for years and not find every nuance and combination. Special mention to the unofficial entries, some of which have absolutely blown me away - there's some seriously untapped talent out there, I really hope this outstanding competition gives them the oxygen they deserve, for years to come.
And now I've seen Brad's, absolutely hate the shape, but from somebody who runs an automotive body shop, very creative use of paint to get the final finish. The one big takeaway from all of this is, if you can imagine it, you can probably do it, which should act as an inspiration for anyone considering building or customising a guitar - I know it's inspired me. Ben, any chance of discount code GGBO21, for a kit for next year's comp ;)
I wonder what will come from Phil McKnight, but I don't expect much of a surprise. His guitar will probably be one that I'd like to own, like Tamar's and G&G's bass or BigD's. I liked the bass a lot. For creativity and skills, I would be between Ben and Texas, both have pushed the limits up. I don't like the aluminum thing (sorry Ben). Diresta's and Brad's are definitely not my cup of tea. I realize that Brad put a lot of effort and skills there, but I don't dig that shape. I respect that he was brave enough to try something different. Diresta... he's kind of an artist, that guitar is more like something to put on the wall, IMO.
Ben you did your very best for the competitors! Crimson guitars was a lovely host, getting the whole gang together. I got to meet some very cool channels and had a lot of fun watching their builds. This guitar represents all the fantastic things this competition had to offer. All for charity and good fun. Fantastic video and concept. Love the body work and finish used with multiple techniques. Plenty of wonderful texture. The neck is sweet. And seeing all the participants logo on the neck was the cherry on top of all the builds.
Hi Michael, thank you for this. Who would have thought the original idea would become such a a crazy thing! I'm really excited for next year already, and the side contest looks like it will produce more than a few incredible guitars! B
This is such a sick guitar I thought you had gone completely mad when you first cut it up! I wish I had enough to bid on this but I feel its going to go for a lot of money. Great work Ben
I'll say one thing for you for sure. You build some unique guitars and figure out what looks barely possible. Watching made me want to finally open the box for the kit I bought a couple years back and start putting it together. I doubt I'll be entering the unofficial build off unless I can figure out what I want the finish to be.
Your skill level and imagination are mind blowing. To get that far and take risk such as epoxy the band around the outside, with only 6 minutes, takes big balls. WOW! Well done, you win!

Pretty sure the guitar named itself. You've got to call it the murderer hornet. Also, a little shocked that you didn't use an aluminum nut, and texture it to match other parts of the guitar. But then again, not my guitar. LOL! Beautiful job Ben. Stunning as always. And again, the fact it looks so burned without a single flame ever touching it, is the brilliance of that guitar.

Even less wood than BOB, absolutely beautiful and amazing!
Damn, that square classical-esque headstock genuinely looks amazing with an lp style body. love it!
Unreal, can’t believe you pulled it off
That turned out freaking A+mazing.... I wasn't sure how you were going to hold the pieces together at the beginning, but you seriously nailed it. This is a piece of art.
Secret is, neither was I.. I had options, but really didn't know exactly where I was going this time.. I think I need a holiday before the next build! B
I wasn't sure whether I was going to like this. I tend to be a minimalist in musical instruments - tons of textures and metals and such usually don't work for me.
But this guitar is magnificent. I wish I had the money to make a serious bid on it. It's just stunning. It's crazy, and yet, everything about it just *works* together. It doesn't look busy. It just looks amazing.
Good job, Ben. You did what many thought you wouldn't be able to do.
There was a lot of doubt.. hell, I was worried for a while myself! B
People say there are no rules when building a CBG WELL THERE ARE NO Rules when building any guitar .. you have an inventive mind
I think this is my favourite of all of your builds so far.
Thank you, it is splitting opinion but I am very happy.. B
Not gonna lie, I had my doubts about how this one would look but it turned out to be incredible. It's so cool to see someone taking risks with design and despite detractors and setbacks making those wacky ideas work
I had doubts too.. major ones, but I also hate taking the easy route, no one learns by doing the same thing as everyone else.. though I do sometimes question my risk tolerance.. B
Wish I could play guitar but as a man who likes guitars as art forms I think that spot on , I've been designing my own custom guitar for a second hand one keep up the amazing work
My G-D dude, that's a beautiful piece of Art. Just incredible how innovative you are. The attention to detail...is just wow. You make it look so easy. I'm not a guitar player. But I appreciate when a person is creative and makes something from their imagination come to fruition.
There are levels to this guitar building lark. I know this because I also make guitars. But you sir are inventing totally new levels that the rest of us need to try and reach
I love this whole design, but especially the headstock... something about the simplicity... and the giant hole in it
Cheers Zach, I am very into trying to mix utter simplicity with crazy and interesting design.. I will be doing more like this for sure. B
Ben, this is my first comment ever on your channel. This build conjures in my mind the words of the great Spinal Tap. “It’s such a fine line between stupid, and uh…clever”. Brilliant. Truly brilliant.
A very fine line indeed! Thank you for that. :) B
To be honest... I hated the look of this guitar. Until it was finished. Now i love it
If you had never made Bob1 I would have called this impossible. You have a wonderful mind!
Thank you! B
That has to be one of the most creative builds I have seen! I need to stop making T style and learn how to build like that!
The trick is to build many many guitars and to have no fear of utter failure imo. Thanks for watching. B
watching you germinate, create, and in turn teach us how to think different and evolve into better luthiers NEVER gets old. Thanks so much this latest truly amazing creation, and bringing us along for the ride. LOVE THIS GUITAR - Cheers!
Hey Joel, thanks for this. I love the teaching as much if not more than the actual building.. inspiring people to make things is just the best job in the world! B
20:09 this part made the video for me. So elated. And of course this guitar is absolutely killer and you should be ecstatic with what you've built Ben. Don't ever change :)
Well holy smokes that came out AMAZING! Probably my favourite LP shaped guitar I've ever seen!
Very good to hear the no noise!
Congratulations on a unique creation.
I bow to the KING ! You are an amazing person, love your personality, your humor. I always get excited to see your videos.
You clamped the body together like a mad scientist. This is some next level guitar builds. Dream guitar 😍
Wow! That thing came out a freaking beaut.
My enforced shielding lockdown has become a delight because of all the official and unofficial builds. Thank you. I also found that my son does not live far from your training centre. He lives in a little village on the A35 - Chideock.
Art with purpose...Brilliantly done. Watching most of the updates as I "play along" in my home shop it is cool to finally see the end product.
Always blown away by how methodically you work, even if it looks haphazard. I would have lost track of what pieces of the body were which!
I must admit Ben, you were right with your conception of the guitar. It looks absolutely stunning! The whole build was more than a Roller Coaster Ride to watch. Thanks for sharing!
Soooooo badass ! I love that guitar !
Ben, you always go a step further with each guitar you create... Hope you'll never stop. Thanks Ben.
Not that I had any doubts... But this is truly a majestic instrument.
Thank you! B
Just started building my first body out of a chunk of ash. This channel has been so amazing and informative, and the guitar from this video is absolutely awesome!
What you did ! Again it’s inspirational, beautiful, and you still kept a classic shape, it’s very very cool !!!
Great job Monsieur !
You are talented thank you for sharing !!
And thank you for setting up the guitar build off !
My pleasure, thank you for watching, I couldn't do this without people like you taking the time out of their day to watch what I put out.. B
Definitely one of my favorite builds! Even the murder hornet was so amazed he had to stop by again to see the finished product and spared your life.
That bloody hornet came back 5 or 6 times over a few days.. chased me out twice! B
Wow, that is just brilliant. I couldn't see how this creation was going to work. It does in spade loads. Jolly good show old chap!
That axe is RAD, man. Absolutely insane
Wow!!! ...great imagination and art, Ben.
Now reminds me of my BBQ grill... HOT! Labor Day Holiday this weekend in the US... time for grilling and beer!
Thanks for the GGBO 2020 entertaiment.
When I was watching this, I was like, WTF? Then I kept watching and was like WTF? I appreciate your sense of humor, and I really appreciate your skills here. JUST WOW!!!! I was thinking that you would leave the top natural, and that's what I may have done, but the final product is just spectacular. What a fantastic build man, AWESOME!!!!
Thank you Ben for making this year a great one for every guitar lover out there. This competition has given us hours of great videos and lots of banter. Can’t wait to see who wins (we all know it’s the charity’s that will be the real winners). Long may this competition continue.
I kind of hope I come in second.. unless it is the Toasters that are on top.. in which case I 100% want to destroy them! :) B
You are becoming funnier and more entertaining . I think your home work-shop is good for the channel. This is the niftiest guitar yet . Keep them coming,
