One of the best RUclips shows I am addicted to. Its a fun show to watch and understand the insights of the game who has been on field for over a decade and an analyst like PDogg. Brilliant. Lots of love and support from 🇨🇦
Great video as always. I’d like to add a correction. Conventional and reverse swing are due to laminar and turbulent boundary layer separation (i.e. how the seam maintains or trips the flow of air around it) respectively, and not due to magnus effect, as PDog stated. Magnus effects, however, is responsible for the drift for spinners. I did my masters in aerodynamics mainly to understand the swing of the cricket ball ;)
It was said in 1979, Sarfaz Nawaz took 7for1 spell vs Australia when they were sitting pretty at 303 for 3 and collapsed to 310 all-out .. Sarfaz finished with 9 Wickets..Though no one knew about it, it was believed to first successful exponent of reverse swing....Then Imran khan demolished Indians in 1982...and ended the successful career of GR Viswanath...
Akram n Imran themselves said they saw n picked it from Sarfaraz Nawaz. No idea of it happening in county Cricket where Imran could pick it from. The deadly art of Reverse Swing lovely to watch from the Best

@12:12 You were talking about the red ball and white ball being dropped. As far as I know weight doesnt affect the velocity of the ball in a free fall. So balls with same dimensions will fall under same speed. Even if the ball is of less weight the balls will reach the ground at the same time.Correct me if I am wrong 😊
Yes also cover Sarfraz Nawaz spell against Australia March 15, 1979. These will give great glimpse of fast Bowling. Sir I also want you Fast Bowling and Spin Bowling legends covering period from 1900. The discussion will be great one. Looking forward to interesting discussion and analysis.
Amazing show Ash anna.. enjoyed a lot.. Tamizh la ivlo alaga, cricketing terms a explain panra show nama show dha.. idhela pathe, nama coaching panla pola..
Sarfaraz nawaz was the pioneer of reverse swing. Imran khan learnt from sarfaraz,in-turn wasim /waqar learnt from Imran. Wasim akram played for Lancashire (1988-1998) and taught Flintoff in turn James Anderson (both played for Lancashire county, Anderson being a Burnley boy). Waqar played County cricket from Surrey (oval, London) where he too imparted the knowledge to Alec Stewart and boys. Trust my analysis is useful. Please feel free to rectify my errors, Happy to learn from masters!
@Ashwin pls do vlog on some of the great fast bowling spells especially prior to 1996 like that of Curtly ambrose, Patrick patterson, Allan Donald, Mc Grath etc.
Yes,This happens when the seam is angled for conventional swing but this time the rough side faces the batsman. If the ball is bowled fast enough (above 85 mph), the laminar layer goes into a turbulent state before it reaches the seam -wikipedia
Yes....that is why I see women's cricket matches getting more swing nowadays. Watch Meghan Schutt, Katherine Brunt . They get swing at these speeds. Same with the Indian proponents of swing like Praveen and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
In the 92 World Cup, for the first time, 2 white balls were used. So reserving the white ball wasn't only due to one ball being used till the 50th over. Akram mastered bowling with the old ball during his count stint.
How does normal and reverse swing work? Why does it swing OPPOSITE to the shiny side during normal swing, and why ON the shiny side during the reverse? Correct me if I misunderstood your explanation :) Thanks !!
Ashwin, a suggestion. We all have few epic cricket matches in our memory like Sachin Sharjah innings, Yuvraj Natwest innings etc. Can you please revisit such epic matches and say as a cricketer how you are feeling now what is the nuances as a cricketer you enjoy in that match which as a viewer we couldn't notice, What you would have done if you were on the field to win that match .

@ashwin ... I have a question here. That is ... Reverse swing is something when the ball gets older at the same time shining the ball one side. .. whats the reason for the ball swinging in the first few overs of the fast bowlers .. there are instances like the batsmen leave the ball by misjudging it .. would like to know the reason behind it.
We should just use bowling machines then to play cricket. As the bowlers are nothing but bowling machines. They aren't even allowed to showcase their skills.
It was Safraz who passed on the reverse swing knowledge to Imran Khan and it was the Pak vs Eng 1992 test series where it was used very effectively. In fact the Pak team was accused of ball tampering because of the reverse swing in the same series and Geoffrey boycott came to Pak team Defense.
My Dad said as watching WTC final 's pictures @ instagram . " Indha Cup adikradhum adikadhadhum Ashwin kaila iruku ." I am sure with it Anna . Waiting for 801 wickets.
Anna Mitchell starcs Yorker to stokes in wc was at the death overs which is reverse swing I believe. Can u please tell me how it happened and also explain the influence of the batsman hitting the ba hard which causes the ball to experience wear and tear
Ashwin bro your topics really good , similarly can you explain New bat Vs seasoned bat what it really makes a difference for the batsmen in odi , test T20 & also few points about the mongoose bat as well who invented it...

PDogg missed mentioning Sarfaraz Nawaz. He taught Imran who taught it to others, including Manoj Prabhakar. Osman Samiuddin's book on Pakistani Cricket- The Unquiet Ones - contains a lot of good detail about reverse swing. The NZ-Pak series in 1990 in Pakistan was the total ball-tampering series as per that book. Chris Pringle was swinging it as much as Akram and Waqar 😂
Anna please upload tutorials on off spin and leg spin. Even though as the saying goes "A true tactician never shares his true tactics" We can at least know some of the secrets behind the greatest spin balls ever bowled by the spin wizard of India "ravichandran ashwin"
ash, a small correction, in 1992 there were 2 new balls used, one at each end, Wasim was able to extract reverse swing in spite of that, so its more the genius of the man than the ball itself
Actually for the betterment of Indian batsmen we need to train them with tampered, tapped ball. To prepare them against swing bowlers in foreign pitches I do understand it's unfair but it will make batsmen especially test batsmen to learn the art of leaving the balls
Sir, request you to discuss/ cover to give a wider perspective of reverse swing - 1982 India tour of Pakistan wherein Imran Khan picked up more wickets during post tea sessions. And Pakistan tour of England 1982
Pdogg is saying reverse swing in Duke's ball is really tough and if someone one could do so they are too talented. Then how come Anderson and Broad are swinging too good wid Duke's ball. Yes in English conditions it would help some. So Swing bowlers from other countries can also do this in English conditions wid Duke's ball?

ideally it should be same, but in reality the drag force of body depends on its weight which affects the velocity
