  • In 1989, at the age of 14 years old and two months, Mary Pierce became the youngest American player to make her debut in a professional event. This was the beginning of an eventful and storied tennis career. Over the span of her time on the tour Mary turned her focus and talent into 4 Grand Slam victories, two in singles and two in doubles. Born in Canada, raised in the United States, and having a French parent allows Mary to be a citizen of all three countries. Florida has also been home to Mary for many years, including time at IMG Academy (then Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy) where she lived and trained for a number of years. With so many years on the tour dedicated to pursuing the passion that you love, you can’t help but grow and learn from the challenges and obstacles that come your way. The world of professional sports is not for the faint of heart, and Mary’s career proved the strength and resilience needed to survive and be successful.
    TEDxYouth@IMGAcademy (www.tedxyouthimgacademy.com)

Fantastic presentation, Mary! Just a win away from 2 slams in 2005 and at her best was too good for anyone to deal with. Miss her on the tour!

I never thought she was the best athlete but she was a true student of the game. To hear her story of how she got into tennis is incredible. Makes me admire her even more for her drive to succeed. You are amazing Mary Pierce no joke.

Wished she would have talked more about her abusive father. For those of you young people out there, if you have an abusive parent in sport, you do not have to take it. Call a help line and authorities if necessary. Mary was lucky but many others were not.

Didn't her father stalk her? They used to have his picture up at her matches for security to know he's not allowed near her. I'm reasonably certain it was an SI article.

I dont believe that part when she said she got a pat on the back and the guy laughed at her oh maybe a couple of round i feel she just want to make her story more credible not feeling its the truth .

Well, people didn’t believe she could make more than a few rounds.... why would that be made up?
