- Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) - Piano Trio no.1 in G-Major, op.49 (1928)
00:20 - 08:45 I. Allegro con baldanza
09:01 - 18:15 II. Litanie (Tema con variazioni)
18:25 - 24:32 III. Allegretto - quasi Minuetto
24:40 - 31:00 IV. Rondo all´Ungherese
Born in Florence, Italy in 1895, Castelnuovo-Tedesco emigrated to the USA in 1939 with the help of Jascha Heifetz and Arturo Toscanini. Trained as classical composer, drawing major inspiration from his jewish heritage as well as his close friendship with guitarist Andres Segovia, Castelnuovo-Tedesco nevertheless settled in Hollywood and became an eminent film composer. As a teacher, Castelnuovo-Tedesco had a significant influence on other major film composers, including Henry Mancini, André Previn, Jerry Goldsmith, and John Williams.
His Piano Trio no.1 was written in 1928 and is one of his very first chambermusic compositions. Good natured in its high spirit and impressive in its use of coloristic mood painting, it is an entertaining gem with many facets to discover. Unfortunately, it is nowadays nearly forgotten and most seldomly programmed.
