This thing honestly looks better than the actual main Mecha for some reason. By the way 1/72 is one of the standard scales for military models so you actually have more display options for dioramas
When these were announced, I said Byakuchi and Jogan are going to sell well. I didn't expect them to release Byakuchi first and the Jogan not far away. Actually the Kenbu is my least favorite. I'm only getting the FM just to look at the tech.
I love how the stock of the auto cannon slots into the arm. It makes so much sense when you consider the kind of recoil that thing could have. Having it slot in the way it does, combined with how the arm is designed, provides for a crazy amount of stability. Edit: and the articulation is absolutely bonkers! They wouldn't need to do too much to the design (if you'd need to do anything in the first place) to make a beast type mecha with this!
While the arm looks weirdly amazing, it honestly isn't the best design for a weapon-wielding unit because the force of the recoil isn't being distributed along a straight line, and most of the stress on the joints is in a 90-degree angle being attached on only one side. For it to be realistic as it were, the arm joints would have to be braced on both sides, like how the legs on the kit are, so it'd be like the gun turret mounts of most vehicles.
My entire collection is based on your reviews. Pg exia, pg perfect strike, pg unleashed, RG hi nu, mg astray blue D, and 30MS. I love your high energy.
Called it being Gold Tier, though I didn't expect that splitting thigh issue in there which I didn't see in other reviews. Though yeah, the Byakuchi looks nice even with the color inaccuracy, even better than the Kenbu imho due to the fact that it doesn't try to look like a "protagonist" mech. For that reason I actually prefer the other two companion protagonist mechs in the series, the Jogan and the Reiki, which I'm hoping to see a review here later. Note that the 11-minute preview we had of Kyoukai Senki episode 1 on the Bandai Spirits channel had the VA's pronounce the mechas as "A-meym" for future reference. (P.S. 30MS Tiasha review soon?)
kinda strange that they released the side-story protagonist's mech before the anime protagonist's mech, has this happened with Sunrise mecha works before?
The manga has been going for a little while before the show, so it may be because of that. With build divers the AGE II Magnum came out before the 00 Diver.
HGUC Gundam came after Guncannon, I think, among others, but yeah, that's obviously uncommon, plus HGUC Gundam was many years after the series, naturally.
The FMP kits should really have have been 1/72 scale as well, given how much they interact with real world military vehicles and 1/60 versions of anything real world are pretty much non-existent.
I think Bandai try to keep kits around the same size so they can use 3mm connections as much as possible. Seems like they value a homogeneous hg kit height over the scale.
@@MechaGaikotsu makes sense logistically, I suppose. Why rejigger whole production lines when you can just make minor changes to streamline production.
Imagine Mcgillis piloting MAILeS as in same Bael Color scheme. The Rib-pistons is definitely one cool aspects of this kit. Just like IBO Gundam Frames. xD You can also try 1/60 pilot figure of Perfect Grades for scaling. Slightly bigger than 1/72
This is legitimately one of the most unique MECHAS I’ve seen. It really looks like something that could easily exit in the real world! A LEGIT MECHA ROBOT!
Have this on pre order, I'm really excited for these kits and I absolutely love the design of this thing! It reminds me of IBO designs(which are by far my favorite Gundam designs) just looks so damn cool and I love the digigrade legs and Rhino horn. The build looks refreshing and I look forward to seeing how the anime turnes out.
1/72 puts it in scale with Max Factory's Dougram Combat Armors and some Macross kits. But if you want ones in scale with Gundams, they're doing tiny 1/144 and Full Mechanics 1/48 scale AMAIMs later.
Im new to gunpla, made... 9 HG kits so far, and this one was my 10th and my favorite build so far. just the over all look and armor, reverse joint legs, just sets this above the rest, I know its not a gundam, but too me, looks much better. Can't wait to custom it.
Feels like stickers gonna be quite a thing for this new line. Remember seeing a video somewhere where the HG kenbu had a big grey stickers for the top of its shoulder.
Finally got around to building this. I find that the splitting hip joints doesn't affect the stability at all, but if knowing the the gap exists annoys you, you can swivel the thighs while firmly pressing on both sides of the thigh armor. The gap will close and you can then swivel it back in place while still firmly pressing on the thigh armor.
1/72 scale puts these things in the same scale as the Zoids HMM kits. So you could get some cool display options with one of these things riding one of the larger Mecha of that series like the Liger Zero, Geno Saurer, etc.
This thing just reminds me of the Armored Core V ACs but better designed. I honestly can't wait to get my hands on one but I need to fill out my backlog first. As for the arm, you are correct, Articulated Robotic arms in various production facilities are designed just like this with 2 joins some what separated.
