Videos like these have always made me wonder how many people were lost that tried to film and didn't think about their safety first. I'm sure there are 100s of lost videos of those that underestimated this.

i'm happy they kept their spirits high amidst the tragedy, the Japanese are a damn strong people, a 9.0 quake followed by the most destructive tsunami in human history*** is one hell of a double punch
***i'm obviously not including whatever happened at the end of the Pleistocene

The amount of debris in the river is amazing. It must be from the houses further down-river that were closer to the landfall and were destroyed.

The hills around the city aren't much taller than the tsunamis!! Yikes!!

I'm curious how far from the harbor this is. I know that Kessennuma lost it's entire fishing fleet. Heartbreaking the loss of life. People must still be totally traumatized. I am so very sorry for the loss of love and life.

I think these people were pretty far away from the harbor. If they were as close as some of the videos I have seen from this city the camera man here would have been killed - he wasn't high enough.

They're just kids. They probably don't even realize that all that debris is all that's left of peoples homes.

    2:33位の「おれサイド引いてねぇ」って言ってたから多分撮影者さんの車は一番手前のイプサムかな?
    サイドブレーキ引く余裕も無く津波が来たんだよな....

Why are they not seeking higher ground?

They probably can't leave the building because of flooding. But obviously they survived or we wouldn't be watching their film

While I can’t blame them for their excitement, exhilaration (incredulity?) given the circumstances, I think I’d be more contrite and aware that the scene before me is resulting in many deaths and total loss of habitat and valuables for many others. Oh well, they’re young. 🤷🏼‍♂️

They probably had no idea of what was happening elsewhere. The land behind the river is pretty high so they wouldn't have seen houses washed away or other horrors. I'm sure the realization hit them later when they found out and they wouldn't have been laughing anymore.
