Well, some notes: 0- Welp, i was sure monster actually inflict more damage in Nightmare difficulty, well I was wrong. 1- At the beginning of my playthrough you can't hear much of tracks like the legendary "At Doom's Gate" because I forgot to increase the music volume, then I did it but forgot to lower the sound effects. Well, I'm not that brilliant I know. 2- Yes, I know i recycled 2 little clips when I'm talking about the jump mechanic... it was so late and i was too tired to remember to correct it, lol 3- The dos intro is made by creating multiple micro-clips of some frames with text. It's nothing difficult or time consuming, just requires a bit of patience. 4- As always sometimes I'm too tired from work, this is why my voice changes in worse and better in some parts. 5- I kinda fucked up the audio mixing before uploading the video, lol, I hope to not sound too difficult to hear.
There's nothing left to be said of Doom that hasn't already been said as far as the history and the game itself; however, I never get tired of videos like this. It's always way more enjoyable to see the game through someone else's experience, and the silly stuff like how you tried to use the keyboard and didn't know shift-to-run will make sure there is always a new way to experience Doom, even second hand. Great video!
Hi, In that segment I replicated the use of both hands on the arrow keys (We all did that the first time as kids) and then killed myself shooting at a barrel in close range; infact that was the first thing i did, lol. I remember i discovered the strafe movements by watching carefully the demo. Right at the beginning the player makes a movement which I wasn't familiar with and looked for the right keys to replicate it, then I discovered the right way to play it and avoid better arriving fireballs. I don't remember how I discovered the shift-run, tho.
@@BucolicInsights Honestly, I'm amazed any of us figured it out back then (even with English as my first language, I was too young to read half the menus). I can't believe I ever played Doom without mouse aim 😂
Bro, with the mouse you can just turn faster (I don't use it, feels strange unless I'm trying to speedrun); the game has still vertical auto-aim unless you're using a sourceport. I remember Heretic featured the possibility di incline the camera but you cannot shoot (...i remember this way maybe I'm wrong) while hexen lets you even that.
Doom is the greatest PC game of all time, not much else I can add. May I ask though, do you remember any of the theories you and your family had about the plot? I'm curious to hear them.
@@BucolicInsights That is what happens though LMAO. Episode 1's ending is a great example of "show don't tell" now that you mention it, John Romero is a genius.
@@RangerQwerty Well yes, but I also like to imagine that John Doom enters a sort of nightmare caused by the horrors he just sought and fought on phobos. He doesn't die, the text screen appears before the player's death and I think he just awakens in cold sweet and finds himself on fucking deimos instead of earth. I think it's coherent with the horror theme of the game.
Yeah, Se noti nell'intro MS-DOS ho inserito le stringhe "loading extra CALABRIAN accent" e "loading grammatical errors". Gli estimatori di New Vegas sono brave persone.
Hi, infact i wanted to preserve the original feel with 4:3 ratio and i chose to use chocolate doom (in alternative to dos box) which is studied to recreate the perfect dos experience. I don't have problems to play old dos games, and review them, maintaining the old limits.
Thanks, i tried dsda, and seems good for mega wads. At the moment, for vanilla wads, i'm still sticking with chocolate doom (need to set anything, the game runs raw like it should) . Right now i'm playing doom 2 with that but the planned next videos will be about other games. I'll make some sequels after the first year (Sin's expansion pack was a little exception).
@@DinnerForkTongue not really, it works well yes but it is not valid port for speedrunning for a reason. Gzdoom should be used to run Ashes series that totally rocks, not Doom.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
Happy i stumbled upon this video in my feed, hope to see more content in the future!
Thanks for the appreciation man, let me know if you like other videos as well.
This reminds me a lot of Duke Nukem :)
Please make more videos :) they are awesome!
Let's consider Doom a sort of base for future great games like Duke Nukem 3D, which I also love. I'll cover that too in future months.

We just thought "so at the end Doom dies in a trap, rip". Lol
We just had access to episode one via shareware for years.

Woohoo! I was stationed in Aviano but lived in San Foca, Italy :) Italy is such a good place to live.
@@christopherc3214 Glad to read that, when it was?
Only about 90 subs and you know how to play proper way, not like some of guys with thousands of subs using gzdoom.
Good job.

There's nothing wrong with using GZDoom, friendo. With the proper setup it's a perfectly valid port.
